because pixel was heavily involved i have no doubts about the game. it's gotten good reviews from the few publications who seem to have played it so far, so it couldn't have strayed too far. i think when nicalis say that it's far more aggressive than just a port, they probably mean that they revamped the game and created all new sprites and music rather than just transferring the old stuff, not that the gameplay has been radically changed.

here are the hands on previews i've found so far-

there's a frustrating sentence at the end of this kotaku article a few weeks ago that no one seems to have caught:

"Cave Story will be released on WiiWare in North America this May."

no other nintendo news sites seem to have any clue about when cave story could be coming out, and it doesn't seem to me like nintendo keeps a firmly planned schedule for wiiware releases anyway, so i'm not taking it seriously. but still, would you be surprised if it were true? nope.

that said i'll still be checking this monday

@romulux It's Kotaku. They are the type of site that, in interviews, ask WiiWare developers face-to-face about other download services, especially XBLA.

But let's be honest, Nicalis should have waited until mid-2009 before announcing the game. We probably won't see the game until the end of Feb or March.

I'm just glad that whoever's citing any so-called "evidence" isn't working in law enforcement.

Maybe if this thread lives long enough, its title will eventually mean something.

There some kind of set back again? I thought they had turned it in to Nintendo and it had been approved

I was pretty jazzed for this game...8 months ago. Then I got fed up with all the delays and just downloaded the freeware version and played it that way. I don't know why more haven't done the same. The same game(essentially) that everyone is not-so-patiently waiting for is already available. Just go get it already and spend your 1000 Wii points on something that isn't already available for free. Trust me, even in its current state as a freeware game that most will have to play with the arrow keys on their keyboard, it's still an awesome game. And playing it will completely satiate your desire for this oft-delayed game and you won't have show up here to express your disatisfaction with the fact that it wasn't released again.

@fixjuxa: I actually just downloaded the game today, and damn is it addicting, and fun. I really dislike keyboard controls though, having my right hand in control of the "d-pad" is just way too weird. So I'm going to try and very much limit my time with it, because I would much more greatly enjoy playing and beating the game for the first time with a proper controller and on a TV.

Oh yeah, there's no question it would be optimal to play with a d-pad but in the end I don't really feel like using the arrow keys hurt the experience too much. I got addicted to it too. I think I played it for 4 straight hours immediately after downloading it. It's quite fun. My plan was to wait for it to come out on Wiiware but...well, we all know what happened there. I never would've imagined that it would be February 2010 and the game still wouldn't be out. Hell, maybe they'll wait so long to release it that by the time it comes out I'll be interested in playing it again.

the keyboard's fine at first, but wait until you unlock the hard ending, or god forbid, hell. i got through it, but i don't think i can ever use the keyboard to play the game again after that experience; pixel gets credit for making those some of the hardest segments i've ever seen in any video game, you don't need the clumsiness of a board adding to it. i think people waiting to play the game with a real controller are justified in doing so

@fixjuxa: Yeah, I think that I'm just gonna keep playing it and then buy it on wiiware when it comes out. It's a really good game, and for all you people so impatiently patiently waiting for it that haven't played it, just download it, it's free!
