Can anyone explain rustshards to me please? I know where to get them from via the Wiki, and I have even had some as rewards, but when I I finnish the quest I appraise then and they turn into weak weapons. Are there two types as I know that there are some swords that need rustshards as forge ingredients. Please can someone expalain as I want to make one of those Eternal Hate swords. Thanks

With Rustshards you can get 'rusted' weapons, which if you upgrade them about 2-3 times, you can get some pretty sweet looking weapons such as that Eternal Hate Sword or a Core Hammer. You have to be lucky to get them, though. I got a rusted Great Sword, so I can't wait to see what I get out of it (though, I wanted a rusted Hammer as that's my favorite weapon of all).
I thought the rust swords were...like, well...regular swords you can forge and buy, so I haven't really messed with them much. (I always gotten Great Swords anyway)
...Is there like...an easier way for me to get this stupid gem from Ceadeus? I wanna complete all of the monster armors and that's all I need before dealing with the high rank stuff online.

Keep it PG-13-ish.
Some of the rustshards are just Iron Sword/Hammer/Lance+'s which won't upgrade into anything special. If you get a Tarnished(?) weapon, it'll upgrade into something badass.

Easier/Cheap way of getting DeepDragon Gem
Fight Ceadeus until you think it's really close to being dead then let time run out. [Repel] Then go save the game. Go select the Ceadeus mission again, he'll still be almost dead. Kill him then on the rewards screen if there is no Gem press the HOME button and select reset. Then you can go right back to fighting almost dead Ceadeus. Keep resetting until you get your Gem. You can not go past the reward screen or it will auto-save and you will have to kill him from scratch again.
@JayArr Thanks for the recommendation. Yeah, I seriously suspect that Memo Pad and its evildoings... >_>
@komicturtle92 Rustshards are always appraised into weapons at the end of quests. They'll usually become low level weapons like Iron Sword+, but rarely they'll become Rusted Swords or Rusted Hammers, etc. Those weapons are rare and can be upgraded into pretty good ones with Dragon element attacks.
One last thing then, how do you tell when he's about dead? I've been told that he glows faintly, but I can't really tell for sure...anything to look for specifically? And when he does start showing weakness that does mean that one last shot from the dragonator will kill him right?

@SuperPeach Basically you've reached the upgrade limit for your weapons until you get to high rank, which is HR 30+. You could try forging some other weapons in the meantime.
Omg you already beat the lagi? X_X Wait up for me! I'm still hr 14 It seems all the n00bs who get MH3 always end up passing me in HR and skill very quickly
Check out SUBLIME GAMER, my YouTube Channel
God loves you
I'm trying to get into this but I'm so noobish. My Hunter Rank is 1. I went on a quest to defeat a single Great Jaggi and the Great Jaggi killed me repeatedly :[ The quest in question I've cleared ingame some time ago (Great Jaggis now regularly roam Moga Forest when not in a quest), but it still takes me about an hour to bring one of the things down. Maybe I need to pick a different kind of weapon rather than sword+shield. Can't get used to Long Swords, by the time they're done with a single swing, the monsters have already gone to the beach to play volleyball with my severed head.
