Hello. First of all, I want to say I LOVE THIS GAME. It is been a real gem to play. I'm about 30 hours in and have loved every single minute of it. After every big boss battle, I can't help but smile and even though it doesn't have the depth of a traditional RPG (i.e. multitude of stat upgrades), I feel like it's truly compelling and I'm completely addicted to it! There's always something new. Lately, I've been loving the Animal Book mini-quest.
BUT, the damn Guardians are ridiculously hard! I'm trying to fight The Red Turnip Warrior right now and I just can't make any headway. Everytime I go into battle, he turns all my guys into turnips and eats them to replenish his life. I can barely make a dent. One time I got close but I haven't been able to replicate that. I got the Letter to fight him a long time ago and I try every couple days and just can't do it.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to defeat the Red Turnip Warrior, maybe a good class combo or technique. Much appreciated, in advance.
Everyone struggles with that one. The advice I got when I asked, and as far as I can tell this seems to be the only way it will work, is to take archers (JUST the arhcers, nothing else, and not too big of a group either) and hide out in the part of the field where you entered the area. It turns out that any time you go into that corner, the turnip guy will forget you're there and go back to where he started. Just come out long enough to let your archers get a few shots in. When he gets up and comes after you, you call everyone back and retreat. Wait for him to settle down, then repeat.
Yup, everyone struggles with that bit, until you discover that area by the entrance, where his attacks won't reach. Just retreat there when he does his thing. Grunts will do just fine so long as you stick to the 'hit and run' technique. And make sure you have given all your powerful items to your squad. Good luck!
The advice given should do the trick for beating this chump. One other piece of advice is that those badges do come in handy, you can get better ones by finding art work and giving it to the art dealer so check every nook cranny and hole in all the areas available to you and also make sure you have taxed every house in your kingdom as some give you artwork.
Also you can usually unlock a number of areas at any one time so if you feel you are not strong enough for this boss yet it may pay to explore somewhere else first, unlock some new job classes, and increase the number you can have in your royal guard.
You know..while we're on the subject (thanks for reminding me, Stevie), how do you get Art Pieces that are in trees? I figured I'd get a guy that can climb up there but I'm running towards the end of the game now (80% united) and haven't found the proper class yet. Am I missing something??
Carb, when two people are in love you can send them into a Church to get them married and give birth to a kid. Put the kid in your squad, send them up a tree and the art piece is yours!
That's genius! I thought the only use of the kids was to turn them into Adults and then into some kind of Job, which never made sense because you have so many random carefree citizens..Thank you!
So, yeah I'm a little late to the party with this game. I didn't want to read all the threads during the summer until I had a chance to play it and now it's nice to know I'm not the only one who loves this game.
Here is a little tip for marrying people, get a full squad of people and stand in front of the church, keep mashing the button to send all your people into the church, keep repeating this trick until the time you send everybody in and no one gets married. If you leave it a couple of days, say 5 or 6 you can repeat this trick.
I did this and ended up with loadsa kids running round my town, I also never turned any of them into adults.
Yeah I had loads a kids running about the place, and loadsa lazy adults dossing about too. They'd come in handy when collecting taxes, and I'd laugh inside, knowing all the townsfolk hated them. As for romance, I just used to hang about the centre of town at dusk, couples would mingle, and I'd grab 'em. It's worth collecting all artby the way as the final few items are super sweet (though nothing beat the Dude Thong).
You are making me want to play again, or at least go back in to 'tidy up', got loads of tunes to collect. I <3 Alpoko.
Collecting the tunes is the only thing I didn't do, it is a real chore though so I may aim to fire LKS up once a week and get a tune a week until I have them all. That way I can say I 100%ed the game. It is the only tedious part of the whole game, the rest is a joy.
At least for that I could sit there mashing the button keeping half an eye on the game whilst doing something else.
What I can't figure out with the tunes is if all the people are in the town or not, because I have searched absolutely everywhere in town numerous times and am still missing quite a few.
Suffice to say, I kicked that Turnip's butt. And have spent most of the last few days wandering around doing quests and sending kids up trees.
One of my favorite aspects of the game is the non-linear way you can go about playing. I've had the last two Kingdoms available for a while but I am in hurry to get them (maybe this weekend.) I love exploring and finding new areas and looking for art. The way they throw in the quests that send you all over the world and you can then just wander around there and dig or whatever is brilliant. The developers obviously thought very carefully about every aspect of their game and seemed to enjoy the hell out of it. It feels like home cooking, ya know? - you can taste the love.

If Little Kings Story was a movie, that would be it's tagline.
I agree about the non-linearity and the freedom to roam, I imagine we all played it in a unique order. I was never short of cash in this game, because I spent soooo much time wandering about in search of treasure, tidying up minor quests, exploring the wilds, and looking for chickens to destroy (the Chef was my most trusted warrior, by far). So much fun!!
EDIT: Just remembered, I need to beat the World Champion. Someone tell me they've done it? To give me hope.
Spoilers I think. - - - You mean King Jumbo Champloon? Yes, I've beat 'im. =) That challenge had my favorite boss battle music in this game. You will need a lot of warriors or veterans for this one.
