Topic: List of Virtual Console games that are unique to the Wii Shop Channel

As the Wii Shop is shutting down, I thought some of you would be interested to see this list of Virtual Console games that are on Wii but not 3DS, Wii U or Switch. Have a look to see if there are any games you want on there before it's too late. (It wasn't me that made this list, it was reddit user u/Mechageo.)

That's a good list, thanks.

The list does not cover WiiWare. I suggest Castlevania Rebirth and Contra Rebirth.

The VC had a great lineup. The shop is a pain to navigate anb buy stuff though.

EDIT: Most of SEGA Mega Drive games are on Steam or in the various PS3 and PSP Classic Collections.
Master System are not released, to my knowledge, anywhere else except Phantasy Star 1 that is on the PS3 MD Collection.

Also some Square games have Steam or Playstation releases.

I just read the Wii forum topic. It is very sad. I think the best exclusive games to download are the consoles that aren´t supported in Wii U: Arcade, Master System, Genesis and Neo Geo. And there are a lot of Nes, Snes and N64 not available in Wii U.

With the Square games, it cannot be recommended to play the PlayStation versions. Unfortunately being the PS1 versions, it is like playing an emulation of an emulator from 1999. With loading times and poor sound quality.
Final Fantasy IV might have been better than the others as I recall playing a bit of that and it having less loading times.
Final Fantasy V though you're stuck with PSN unfortunately for English regions. The PSN version unfortunately seems to be based the original release, bringing back a terrible graphics corruption bug that at the least seemed to have been fixed in the Greatest Hits disc print.

Whoa, that's a lot of games.

My current Game Design teacher worked on Super Star Wars, so I'll probably pick that up. I might get Kirby's Avalanche too.

Thank you for sharing this!

A lot of the list can be condensed to "All Genesis, Master System, TurboGrafx-CD and non-NeoGeo arcade games". Well, the small selection of Commodore 64 games as well but those were delisted years ago so it's a moot point now.
(I'm pretty sure even the increasing selection of TurboGrafx games on Wii U has been limited to the chip format games.)

I do wish that Turbo CD games had come to the Wii U. I wanted Castlevania Rondo of Blood.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I plan on buying some Wii VC games that I haven't got yet, through the Wii U, before the Wii Shop shuts down.
What bugs me why Ninty will not have a sale before closing

Turbografx-16 CD releases are available on the Wii U Virtual Console. Lords of Thunder, Bomberman Panic Bomber, and Battle Lode Runner are all available.

I hold little hope for Castlevania, since not even Japan has that. Since every TG16 related release that the Wii U in the West has received was previously available in Japan, this one is unlikely now that the book seems to have been closed on the Virtual Console in Japan.

I've created an updated list, and cleaned it up a bit based on system. This is still subject to change as some games are still being released. Namely, TG16 games on Wii U VC & Neo Geo games on Switch ACA. Also, this only subtracts games currently available on Wii U or Switch download services, not compilations or other systems (including 3DS).

Thanks for making that list, it's a lot clearer!

Thanks from me also. I have been wanting to pick games up before they are gone so it is good to see which are most vital to grab.

@Dogorilla Thanks so much for this list!

Does anyone know if my Wii Shop points on Wii U will be lost after I do the Wii - to - Wii U system transfer? I have 8000

Sciqueen

Dogorilla

@Sciqueen I think your Wii Shop points will be transferred to your Wii U, but you'll only be able to spend them on Wii games (from the Wii U's version of the Wii Shop Channel), not the Wii U eShop. So don't worry, I'm pretty sure you won't lose anything.

As I recall when I researched the process before doing it myself when I bought a Wii U a year into its life, your Wii Shop points will be merged. So if you have say another 500 points on your original Wii, you won't lose anything doing the transfer. You'll just end up with an 8,500 point balance on your Wii U's Wii Shop.

The only stuff I recall that are lost rather than merged are your Wii U's 'Wii Mode' Mii's, if you select to transfer your Wii's collection of Mii's over to your Wii U (I believe this part of the transfer process was optional, possibly just for this reason). And if you have a game save on both your Wii U and Wii for the same Wii game, the save on the Wii U will be overwritten with the save being transferred from the Wii.

So for example if you briefly checked out Zelda: Skyward Sword on your Wii before restarting on the Wii U and don't want to lose your progress, be sure to delete the old save on your Wii before doing the transfer.

Another thing to note. Only the games on your Wii's dashboard at the time you initiate the transfer will be moved over directly. So if you have a ton of SD card content and set it aside to move over to your Wii U afterwards (Rather than using the same card for the transfer itself), don't be fooled when you insert the SD card afterwards into your Wii U into thinking that your games are still there and that you're done.

They will show up normally in the SD menu on your Wii U, but won't play if you try to fire one up. You must go through the tedious process of deleting each game and then redownloading to get a new download that's associated with your Wii U. Use purchase history or whatever it's called, since it's quicker and is the only place that any delisted content you may have bought will show up to be redownloaded.

This is going to burn some hasty Wii U owner that moved over their content at the last second, thought everything looked fine in the SD card menu when they quickly checked, and didn't actually try to fire up a game off the SD card until years later.

Based on the revised list of titles exclusive to the Wii Shop and are not on the Wii U eShop, are there any RPG, tactical RPG, or life simulation (monster/animal raising) games still only available on the Wii Shop?
