Topic: Kirby's Dreamland Preorder + Midnight BattleField 3 Launch = FAIL!

So..... My local Gamestop was having a midnight launch party for BattleField 3. Whoopity-Dooo! The cashier told me that Kirby would be available at midnight if I reserved a copy, so I forked over 5 dollars to pick one up later. I arrived at 11:50, and there's a freaking crowd of people there. I stand in line with my preorder of Kirby DreamLand Returns, amongst a crowd of people with preorders for Battlefield. Myself, I'm definitely not an FPS fan. I get up to the cashier at 12:20, and he tells me they don't have it in yet, and to come back around noon tomorrow. It's the same freaking guy who told me just earlier today I could come in at midnight to pick it up. Laughter ensues. I walk out the store humiliated and with no Kirby.

And this surprises you that Gamestop did this to you. Just to let you know Gamestop's sales people will say anything and promise you everything just to get your money. Once they have your money they dont give a sh** about you anymore. Truthfully it surprises me that people even shop at Gamestop anymore.

I would highly recommend complaining to the store manager about what happened to you and canceling your pre-order. Seriously, don't let them make a fool out of you. Pick it up at Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart or anywhere else other than GameStop. You are a valuable customer and you deserve to be treated as such.

Not Walmart. I work there, and trust me the customer service is horrible.

Well, I can basically pick it up somewhere else for $50 + tax and lose my 5 dollar deposit, or come back later and pick it up at the same location, minus the 5 dollars I already put down. But yeah, it totally blows. There's 5 Gamestops in my area, all within 15 miles of my house, but I also have two preorders (Mario 3D Land & MarioKart 7) at this location. Mostly, I just use Gamestop for preorders, especially since some games have lucrative preorder bonuses.

I would have all three preorders refunded and put that money down at another location. The people at that location have proven that they do not deserve your patronage.

Also, if they try to say that they can't refund your money because the game is in — that's BS. If you don't pick up your preorder that game goes up on the shelf and your money stays in the system — you can roll it over to any other game that's coming out, in fact. If it was cash, they will refund you in cash, but if it was a card idk if they give store credit or if it goes back directly onto whatever card you used, but you can absolutely get your money back.

Before you do that though, tell the manager that you were informed that Kirby would be available at midnight, and you waited with the increased displeasure of the Battlefield midnight launch, only to be informed at the counter that infact there was no Kirby in stock. If they don't give you something for your troubles, either a future discount or a discount on Kirby or something (which they should, but I dunno) then take your money elsewhere.

If they say no, then say well I want my money back, as well as my money for my two other pre-orders, and they may try to keep your business.

I remember the old manager at the GS here actually called another store when they refused my preorder for a game. I guess it's good to have an angry manager on your side

Who laughed? If it was the GS employee who specifically told you to come at midnight, I would report him and get him fired for treating you like that after misleading you in the first place.

Overreacting a bit much? They probably expected a certain number of copies to come in at midnight, and they were probably delayed. And you should never wish for someone to get fired. The job market and economy are still in poor shape.

If someone is bad at thier job then no matter how great the economy is that person deserves to get fired as he may have just lost the chain the customer.

9 times out of ten he knew they weren't going to be in on time and just got the pre-order (gamestop guys live on pre-orders) thinking you would decide to come the next day when the game might have been ready. Gamestop usually gets games stocked that weekend or the friday before the launch date.

My closest GameStop is not that bad, one employee specifically. One example that stands out is that I found a copy of Pikmin 2 that was labeled as $9.99 so I took it up and asked about it. Now, if you know anything about Pikmin 2 right now, it is very hard to find, especially in a rural area, and is at least $40 almost everywhere you look, including GameStop. It turns out someone mislabeled it as the original Pikmin. But he honored the deal anyways, and I basically saved $30 on a game that I probably never would have been able to find near me anyways. It was definitely worth $40, though.

I thought old discontinued games were supposed to be cheaper than new ones.

This reminds me of a funny Black Friday story: I'm waiting in line at Best Buy to make my purchases. I'm probably the 5th person at this register. The store is packed. There are insane lines of probably 20+ people in each check-out lane. Their system was overwhelmed and the registers stopped working for about 20 minutes. These two college-aged dudes a few people behind me had lost their patience and stormed up to the register, SLAMMED their purchase down on the counter, and unjustly yelled at the cashier "YOU ARE THE SLOWEST M-FER I HAVE EVER SEEN!" Everyone was silent until, one-by-one, we all realized that the guy had a single item he was purchasing and it was a Britney Spears CD. Everyone then began laughing their butts off at the two guys as they left the store.

I'm going to put in preorders at the old Gamestop I used to do business with. In fact, there are two of them are located on opposite sides of the same street, within a block of each other, in a very popular area for retail / dining on the southeast side of town (one of them used to be an EB-Games prior to the merger). Every time I reserved a preorder, I would forget which location I reserved at and walk into the wrong store to pick it up. They were always very nice and would contact the other store to see if they had it. Anyway, I started going to the Game Stop on the west side of town, which is roughly the same distance from my house, to prevent confusion. As it turns out, they guys at the Game Stop on the west side of town were jerks. I wouldn't say the associate was laughing directly at me, but rather the irony of the situation. I think some of the other customers thought it was somehow amusing, too. Every other person who was in that store was there to pick up Battlefield 3 for PS3 or 360, and here's some Nintendo fanboy asking for Kirby. Even so, that doesn't excuse their rudeness, and he should have checked the stockroom to make sure it had arrived.

I am going to go back over to the two Gamestops on the southeast side of town like I used to do. I'll pick up Kirby return to Dreamland there, and put in new preorders for MarioKart7 and Mario 3D Land prior to crossing town and cancelling the old ones. Sadly, it looks like the west side Gamestop won't be getting any more business from me (unless the manager does some serious butt-kissing! B ).

What can I say? GameStop (employees and the corporation) hate Nintendo. I hardly ever see them promote games on Nintendo platforms, unless it's a big-name Nintendo franchise. And all their pre-order deals are for PS3 and Xbox 360.
