The Wii’s last year IMO was in 2010, after that, Nintendo gave lukewarm support to the system, looking at the games published, the only thing noteworthy in 2011/2012 was Skyward Sword and Kirby’s Return to Dreamland…………..with Xenoblade Chronicles, we had to kick and scream, and in return received a limited release. I’m sure a lot of this was due to the shift of developmental resources to the 3DS and Wii U, but still, 2011 and 2012 didn’t have to be as bleak as they were. Thankfully Xseed kinda picked up the gap.
In turn I think this kinda hurt Nintendo, they were out of the gaming public’s eye for a good two years by the time the Wii U launched.
Well for me the Wii is just getting started. I never owned a Wii before and recently got a Wii U for Christmas. Since it can play Wii games as well I am now staring to see out some good Wii games. I'm very excited to try the Wii Donkey Kong Country game and Mario Galaxy. So much to learn for me. I'm more used to my NES and SNES but am excited about starting my Wii and Wii U collection. What's old to some is new to others.

i guess we don't count 3rd party titles like last story or pandoras tower. the latter was the last good release on the wii in my opinion
Maybe the system is gone, but not the games. I gave my wii away when i got my wii u and I still have my Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Punch Out!, Mario Kart and Twilight Princess. It's just time to upgrade if you have the money.
If you are expecting anything new, I would say yes. But I know plenty of people who still play their Wii and it's software is still being sold. It has a little life left, but would imagine that its days are numbered. A lot of people use it for Netflix, so that has given it some life
I would say yes, but plenty of people still play it. I have a Wii U, so there's not really any reason to go back to the hardware. I do still play Wii games on my Wii U, though.
Also, I don't get why people keep playing the PS2. You might as well buy a BC PS3, then get rid of the PS2, but that's just my opinion. There's no need to have an old console, if the new one does things better and more, plus what the last one did. I just gave my Wii to my bro for free.
@SCAR392 "lso, I don't get why people keep playing the PS2. You might as well buy a BC PS3, then get rid of the PS2" have you ever heard of retro gaming ?? there are a lot of people love to play old games as well as new ones..
that is first reason.. the second one: most of the new games are only about graphic. You finish the game once and never play it twice.. the reason is the develpoers only think about money
but if you check the games starting 7-10 years ago, eventhough graphics werent that good (they were the best at the time) the fun was much higher than we have it from new consoles.. there was that gamin spirit in it..
if you are a young man, its hard for you to udnerstand.. you gotta live at that time
and third: ps2 game archives are more the ps3 games
so i think you got the point.. graphic is important but not everything.. thats why people keep playin with their wii's even ps2.. there are people who love playing with snes, ps1 etc
if you think the latest games are better in any way.. than you are wastin your time playin with wii u or ps3 etc.. you gotta get a gaming PC my firend thats the higest graphics, and it will always be
The Wii's been dead since April 2012.... The DS has been dead since Pokemon BW2. I bet the 3DS will die 2019-2020. The Wii U may be in that same time frame as the 3DS. Just guesstimating.
Depends on your definition of dead. If you mean dead as in no new games then Yes. If you mean do people still play them and does places sell games then no.

I keep all my old consoles because I'm also a collector. So there is a need for some.

lets say: if you play all that your interested games on wii and get bored then its dead because no more new games,
but if you still enjoy the games on wii and there are still games that you not play yet.. than not dead yet
i think this is the correct answer
sega mega drive and snes are not dead for me because i still enjoy to play.. you dont event touch them anymore, then they are dead for you

@Wolf-EyE
I know what retro gaming is. I used to collect games for all of the Nintendo systems, but there was a point where I thought there was no longer a need to have a shelf full of games, so I sold them. It's just alot easier to play older games through BC, if you can.
I have a PS3 slim, but missed out on PS2 almost entirely. I don't see any reason to go back, unless I would have had BC as an option, which the newer PS3s doesn't have anymore. If I beat games multiple times and know about everything the gane has to offer, I don't see any reason to play it anymore. Then there are better/newer versions of games in a series. Tekken, for example. Even though that gane dates back to the PS1 days, there's not any real reason to play it over the newest game. I feel the same about Smash Bros. I will never be able to play older video games that I have "mastered" and be able to get as much enjoyment from it, anymore, because there's only so much you can learn from the games.
@RancidVomit86
Good for you then. I'm not being sarcastic, BTW. It's just my opinion that some things get old and there's no reason to play them, anymore. I don't find any satisfaction from having a shelf full of older games anymore. If I really want to replay an old game, I'll buy it on VC, if it's available. The games sound and look better on VC, IMO, anyway. Not to mention that people are asking $100+ for $8 games.
I even think Xenoblade being the price it is, is ridiculous. I'm not a collector, so I'm not going to pay collector prices.
It's been dead for nearly 3 years. Skyward Sword is the last game that was any good that came to the wii and that was in 2011.
But didn't The Last Story and Pandora's Tower come out in 2012?
Pandora's Tower was my last hurrah in terms of new releases on the Wii but I got a heck of a backlog. Hope to finish Skyward Sword before the end of April and then I should get down to tackling The Last Story.
In terms of new releases, I suspect there will be little for the Wii as Nintendo is putting its weight behind the Wii U (or so it should be), yet I think the Wii has plenty of hidden gems many of which can be grabbed cheaply.
Plus the phenomenal Xenoblade Chronicles can now be picked up for C$70 new now over at VGP so as good a time as any if you're a JRPG fan.
