Topic: How nostalgic is the VC for you?

Whenever I play the SNES games I've downloaded it brings me back to my childhood and the days before the analog stick. The Classic Controller brings back even more memories with its flatbottom design in favor of the now-standard grips. It could be a little wider, but I'm not about to get the PRO as I don't want the grips.

The N64 games are nostalgic in that they remind me of the days when 3D was all the rage. I had a Playstation instead, but the N64 games still remind me of those days. Some games tried to exploit the new technology in unique ways back then. The menu for SSB reminds me of GT for some reason.

I grew up around the N64 times and haven't had much nostalgia from playing
Super Mario 64.

I don't get nostalgic over any of the VC games, because I was born in 93', so I didn't get a chance to play any of those games when they first came out. I don't think nostalgia is necessary to enjoy them, though. I bought Super Mario Bros. 3 and The Legend of Zelda: OOT based on user recommendations from NL, and they're still very fun if you can get past their sometimes dated mechanics.

If you think New Super Mario Bros. Wii is hard, try Super Mario Bros. 3.

I find them very nostalgic, but I prefer old games.

I'd rather play Contra than Medal of Honor. It's my personal preference. I've always liked games that I could play for a half hour and set down and do something else. But of course the first game system that my parents bought had 6 games built in and they were all basically Pong. I grew up on Atari and most of those game you literally couldn't play for more than 15 minute stretches. I can still remember the first time I play Super Mario Bros at a friends house and I fell down every damn hole!

So, speaking of Nostalgia I have purchased a few for that reason: SMB2 and Super Dodge Ball... and if they ever get around to releasing Skate or Die I will purchase that the same day it comes out, purely cause my friends and I thought it was the most rad game ever! Even if it got a horrible NL review.

Not at all. I already have all the games from my childhood except for a few here and there, none of which I have on the VC. The only exception would be F-Zero X, which I got for nostalgia, only to realize I hated it as a kid. I just play games because they're fun, no matter how old they are. I did get Final Fantasy II because it was the first FF game that I played on an emulator about one and a half years ago, but I don't think that counts as nostalgia.

Not really. Most of the games I download from the VC is from before my time. My first consoles was the PS1 and N64, but I wish I had grown up with SNES and Sega MegaDrive or even the TurboGrafx16
Thats why I really love the VC. Lets me experience many great games from the past I wouldn't have known otherwise, so not much of nostalgia.

Many of the games I've downloaded I never had as a kid, so they're not all that nostalgic. My NES downloads are all games I never even knew existed as a kid. Still, it's great to see games being made available that are from simpler times.

There definitely is some nostalgia... but Virtual Console usually serves a different purpose for me.

I was lucky enough to grow up with an Atari, but after that my family simply didn't have enough money to really buy video games. When the NES or SNES came out, I would visit friends to play games on those systems. We only got an NES at Christmas in 1991 and never actually owned a SNES console. (By the time N64 came out I was earning enough money to buy the system and a few games though.)

Sometimes I have good memories about playing Virtual Console games with friends for an afternoon, or seeing them in stores and wishing I could try them... but more often it's a way to experience classics that I missed out on the first time. Having entire libraries of TG-16, Genesys, and SNES games available to me now is like a childhood dream come true!

Percentful

It depends on the game.

Just let it happen.

For me, very nostalgic. I grew up in the SNES era, and was devastated when mine broke. I had finally resigned myself to the fact that I would never play those games again, so actually the VC was the main reason I bought a Wii in the first place. I didn't plan on getting into the newer games as much as I have

I didn't like the official SNES controller much back then. It was too flat for me. I quickly upgraded to something that felt more comfortable. These were my main controllers back in the day. Comfort of playing will always come first.

I didn't own any consoles because I played on the PC (and the Gameboy too). So for me VC is finding out about all the games I've missed and every once in a while playing a game for nostalgia that I played in Arcades or on the PC (but had a console version too).

So ends a saga older than time itself.
