I didn't have high hopes for this game when I first heard about it. It just sounded stupid and boring. I've never played the original PC game so I had no idea what I was thinking downloading it. As it turns out I'm glad I did. It has really funny dialog and clever puzzles that really put your brain to work. It only took me about an hour of playing to get hooked and I didn't want to stop. I especially liked the part where the french guy (forgot his name) wanted to cut off guy brush's possesed hand and strapped you down to the table. Then you solve some puzzles around the room with the help of the little monkey. This game is neat!

This sounds like a good game too bad about the lag and sound. I wish I could hear the game myself on the places where the voice sucks. See if it would bother me.
The only time voice really bothered me was during that one really old guy's dialogue (the one who gives you the manatee eye thing). But the game does have captions.
@longtimegamer: I'm contemplating doing a vid showing certain parts in Monkey Island that don't go so well from a technical standpoint. That is of course unless it's already been done.
There may be some stuttering here and there, but this is a Wiiware release for goodness sake. Wiith full voice, all crammed into 40MB. It's an astounding achievement. Compared to most other Wiiware titles it's absolutely brilliant and engrossing and funny and fun. The Chair puzzle is one of the greatest Adventure game puzzles I have ever played.
I think a lot of the early beat-up on the title was because people were expecting Disc-Based game quality. Obviously it has been heavily compressed to fit on Wiiware, and isn't as crisp as the regular 2D games found on the service, or as crisp as the 3D titles like Fun Fun Minigolf, but that's becuse they are simple, games with limited speech. And it is fully voiced. Need i remind you what games are like that reuse the same audio lines over and over "That's why you're still a kid!" anyone?
The framerate issues are overexaggerated, it's not like it's an action based game anyway where lag would actually effect gameplay. There are no twitchy gameplay moments and only a couple of times where you need to use an object before an 'event' happens, and if you fail, you can just keep trying.
Telltale are trying to improve the pausing for the next episode too. So, it's a little wobblier and stutters more and the audio compression is higher than other Wiiware games, but the reason for that is because so much content has been crammed into it.
Look at what else you could get for 1000 points. There wouldn't be too many Wiiware titles that would provide more fun for the price..
Someone posted somewhere else that the Windows version of episode 1 is 200 MB. They had to cram that into 40 MB (Nintendo's current max size for WiiWare) for the Wii version. I'm glad to have the option to play it on the Wii so I don't have to install it on my PC (which normally runs Linux).
The review copy was 285MB on PC, but they may have cut back the size a little on the official release (mind you, that's installed, which should be very similar in both cases, regardless of how much the installer was compressed).
But yes, an amazing achievement by Telltale getting this thing on Wiiware.
I was just discussing this the other day. That's a heckuva a lot to condense and still boast that no content was lost. I'll take the minor kirks over lost content any day, as I'm sure many will agree.
Its a great adventure game of quests and puzzles... It's not hard at all and it's actually really fun, as in comic... the story is nice, graphics are good... You're a pirate stuck on an island and trying to get out of there. You don't fight at all, you just walk and click but it has a nice story, and it keeps you hooked for a couple of minutes.
Wii Number: soon... :) Now Playing: Wii Sports Resort, My Aquarium, Defend your Castle & Tales of Monkey Island Vol. 1 Wants: X-Com Ufo Defense and Fallout on WiiWare :)
