I'm totally going to claim that playing Wii Music and Wii Fit for two hours a day makes me a hardcore gamer then.
That should be fun.
Well to be honest its not the game you play that makes you "hardcore" it is actually the time and effort you put into mastering the game. If you put time and effort into a game that requires genuine skill to play u can call yourself a "hardcore" gamer, but I wouldn't its a pretty silly title lol

Officailly recognised Hardcore Wii gamers are those who don't own WiiSports.
Lolz so what did they do with the copies that came with their Wii's burn them in protest? Actually I wouldn't be surprised with all the crazy fanboys out there hehe

I don't think Nintendo is a big evil game company. In fact, I would probably agree more with you, Dru, than those disappointed in Nintendo's new direction. I just don't agree with the reasoning here. We have only a couple games as examples, while some certainly would expect more, and we have a solution to a problem that is Nintendo's fault to begin with. I mean, if I punched someone in the face and then offered him an icepack, I would not be praised by anyone for how attentive I was to his complaints. If the problem shouldn't have been there to begin with, that's not really listening to the fans. That's listening to the fans years after they complained about it, which is a key difference and not really worth a pat on the back.

Lmao the example you used there made me chuckle twas awesome. For what its worth I can totally see where you're coming from and your lines of reasoning are great, its just that I tend to see the glass half full when it comes to gaming. also the three examples I used were just to get the ball rolling so to speak I'd hoped others would follow suit maybe listing other things such as:
Excite Truck: World Rally
The Hanabi festivals (ok we didn't get Earthbound but we got Super Mario rpg along with other great games)
Metroid: Other M (I its not out yet and could potentially be poor but this is definitely a game targeted at the "core" unless Ninty add some crazy Samus visor peripheral lol)
Metroid Prime Trilogy (could have very easily been released as NPC like japan and probably still would have sold)
I understand that Nintendo could have done a lot more to please the "core" but this forum was designed to be an uplifting contrast to the over abundance of negative fan-boy influenced articles out there, something to focus on the good Nintendo has done. As a side note what good things have you noticed Nintendo do that we can add to the list?
Yea, those are all good examples. I think Nintendo has given us a decent amount of "gamers' games" so far, but this year is sure to raise the bar, so while I wouldn't blame anyone's memory for thinking Nintendo has "abandoned" anyone, I would blame them for being poorly informed of upcoming releases.
2. Punchout!! - An update of a Nintendo classic made specifically for long time Nintendo fans (filled with nods and winks to fans of the series)
Fun, but wow, what effort they put in ... ONE new opponent, and everybody else is recycled!
3. 2D MARIO!!!! NSMBW is awesome, harks back to the good ol days of Nintendo gaming!
Or, as I like to call it, "the game that, without multi-player, would be on the DS ".
Sorry, I disagree wholeheartedly. Nintendo dropped the ball on the long-time, hardcore gamer audience and focused on grandmas and newbies. While it's nice to see this year they're stacking the deck with new Mario, Metroid AND Zelda games, they're also going all-in. What's next year? And the year after? Why haven't they gotten more 3rd parties on the VC, like EA? For that matter, where's the AAA titles from third parties? For every right Nintendo gets, they get two wrongs. And there was no reason for it to be so this generation.
sheesh if your so cynical about it, then get a xbox and stop complaining
but anyway i think that your confusing "hardcore" gamers, with "long time" gamers. punch out and mario werent remade for hardcore gamers because quite frankly neither are hardcore games. and secondly, casual gamers could use the sd card slot. your saying that only hardcore gamers download games, where 70 percent of the wiiware games are casual. so i think your facts are all wrong, none of those mean nintendo cares about HC gamers. but the signs that they do show are games like Twilight Princess, Smash Bros, and Metroid Prime
I think your reply is confusing my points with the other person that commented's points, I also never mentioned anything about "hardcore" games if I remember correctly I've only been using the term "core" which to me means long term gamers. I also think that Punchout!! should be considered a "core" game (just because it's light-hearted doesn't mean its not a gamer game) The term "hardcore" is kind of meaningless.
hardcore and core are different!? wow ive been confused for a long time

If you REALLY don't want your copy of Wii Sports, I recommend selling it. There's a surprisingly large market for used copies of a game that comes bundled with EVERY WII SOLD, resulting from a combination of broken and lost discs. Nintendo could make some easy money selling replacements on Nintendo.com, but they don't, leaving GameStop open to charge $15 a pop (it keeps fluctuating, actually; highest I've seen was $20).
Of course, I disagree with the assertion that you have to dump Wii Sports to be a "real" hardcore Wii gamer. I play Wii Sports (and Resort), Wii Music, Wii Fit, NSMBW, SMG, LoZ:TP, Punch-Out!!, etc...and I refuse to accept the label of anything OTHER than core (or "hardcore," depending on the definition) gamer due to the amout of time and passion I put into that pasttime.
