Topic: Fast Draw Showdown... WiiWare?

I wonder why NoA released this as WiiWare instead of VC-Arcade, as it's a direct port from the 1994 FMV arcade title from American Laser Games. Any ideas?

BTW, I got it (as promised), and already got my points' worth of laughs. The response and transition times are virtually nonexistent when compared to the lumbering arcade original.

Seriously? Seems like the second emulation getting by as WiiWare...maybe there's hope for Intellivision Lives! yet!

How long does it take to blast through ?

Not sure, ILVG. Just fired it up for the first time last night to check out the play characteristics and was largely impressed. I did about 6 or 7 showdowns before passing the remote along to friends and letting them have their fun as well. So I have no idea really how deep it goes in terms of rounds or adversaries, though I'm sure our review here will cover that.

Nice avatar, BTW... bub.

Thanks Vendetta and thanks for the info on the game.

I'd be happy to answer any questions. I've made it to Round 6 so far.

@Vendetta: Good question. But it's not "complete" emulation exactly. But I can understand why you'd think it would work as a VC Arcade release.

What are the differences in the WiiWare release and the original arcade version? I only played the arcade one a handful of times, and with the exception of the reticule, I honestly can't see any.

EDIT: Same game, according to its publisher, too. So unless "emulation" is what we're getting hung up on, then why not VC/A, exactly?

Ah, kk. Yeah, VCA would've worked. But what possible options could you have been able to toggle on the VCA Menu?
Also, as I said in my original post (just edited), I was asking if the game originally had a multiplayer mode and apparently it didn't.

"The game will also have a multiplayer mode among other new features."

I assume they added features to bring it under Wii Ware group. I would not mind if they did bring it under VCA. The VCA really needs more games.

I'm thinking about getting this game, is it worthy?

This game looks like it might be pretty fun to play. Seems like the goofy humor I enjoy, and if it's two players that's even better. Just on the safe side I'm going to wait for the review though.

Yep, it's two players. So far, I'm liking it. Just don't expect loads of content.

Maybe you guys can help me on this. I still live at home even though I'm 33 (I had a major stroke a few years back that keeps me from working so I just don't have the money to move out) and my mom can play Wii Bowling all day, so she's set on the Wii. My dad is a different story, we're both huge baseball fans and loved it in Wii Sports it's just that it's too simplistic.

Ok so the reason I'm in this thread is my dad is also a huge western nut. Besides Fox News all he watches is the Encore Western Channel and has said many times that if he could pick the time period to live in, it would be during the times of the old west. I'm thinking of getting this for him and wanted to know if it really feels like your in a showdown, if it gives you the feeling that you are really a part of the game.

I know it's only five bucks, but like I said I'm on a limited income with my doctors bills, medicine bills and (ok not a necessity) the wrestling event I'm going to next week. Do you think he would enjoy it and if so, do you think the Nyco gun peripheral would make it even better?

I am the one you despise. I am he who says what you really deep down know but are affraid to admit. I am the Anti-Fanboy, the crusader of truth in a world built on your lies.

I don't know about this game, but I have suggestions for baseball games.

If you want an unrealistic arcade type game, get one of the Mario Baseball games. If you really want motion controls, get Mario Super Sluggers for Wii. If you don't care about motion controls, get Mario Superstar Baseball for GameCube, as the core gameplay is somewhat better in that one.

If you want a hardcore baseball simulator, unfortunately there isn't a really good one for Wii yet, so I recommend going back to GameCube again. The best one in my opinion is MVP Baseball 2005 for GameCube (the last one of the superior MVP Baseball series before 2K Sports was granted a legal monopoly for the MLBPA license in video games). It doesn't have motion controls (which still need work in the Wii games), online play (actually, neither do the Wii games), up-to-date Wii graphics (not much better in the Wii games), or current rosters, but it is very superior in every other way to the 2K Baseball series games on both GameCube and Wii.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

@Bulbasaurus

I still play MVP 05 on my 360. To me it's still the best baseball game ever made. It's funny though, my dad and I still play each other in R.B.I. 3 and Legends of the Diamond on the NES. So graphics don't matter to us.

I also second Sluggers It's great for multiplayer.

As for this game, I got a feeling you'll enjoy it especially if you both can bond off of it. I'm sure either you or your father (or both) will get a laugh or two out of some of the goofy FMV's.

@Rowdy Rodimus

IGN gave this game a respectable review score and said there is fun to be had but very short. It sounds like you may want to consider it.

It's not that short, IMO. It's an arcade game for pete's sake. As such, short bursts FTW.

Should also add that I noticed a statement that's inaccurate about this review:
http://nintendo-okie.com/2010/01/07/fast-draw-showdown/

"The other is that there is no real indication of when to draw your gun other than your digital opponent reaching for their gun. It would have been nice if there was some sort of sound, or visual cue for you to draw."

There IS a visual cue on Easy....

It's not something that takes itself seriously. If he likes Wild West comedy then he may enjoy it. But if he's looking for realism I'd say pass. Or check out the review that should be up shortly.

I haven't gotten "Fast Draw Showdown" yet, but it begs comparison with "Wild West Guns" on Wiiware. I think, WWG is kind of bad in a cowboys vs indians way, but it's pretty good in a quick-trigger non-FPS western shooter. In other words WWG is easy fun for 2 players. Take a look at WWG and see if it suits you.
