Topic: Fake miis

What's with all the cheap party games on wii using their own personal fake mii maker? Is it cheaper to not use miis or something? I'm really confused why these games wouldn't implement them. Or is it 1st party titles only?

NL: Will players be able to use their own Miis in the game?

YK: Players cannot use Miis here unfortunately, because we couldn’t do what we wanted to the characters according to Nintendo’s Mii regulations. So, we switched to an avatar system of our own. Considering there’s a ton of customisation options for the avatars in Oops! Prank Party, it’s a great substitute.

I imagine using official Mii's comes with licensing constraints and usage requirements, so it often works out cheaper to build their own. It may also be restriction on Nintendo's part if the avatars are to be the main player characters of the game - a lot of these games aren't exactly good, and Nintendo won't want their IP all over someone else's box art, competing with their own Wii Party.

I Hate when they put fake Miis in a game.

The only game I liked that had Miis in it was Mario Kart,

The customization issue makes sense to me. It's pretty disappointing that you can't put a hat on your Mii in Animal Crossing or else your face changes back to the default boy or girl. C'mon Mii, get it together.

Interestingly, the Wii and 360 versions of Monopoly Streets support Miis and whatever the 360 things are called (avatars?). But the PS3 version does not support the PS3's avatar thingies.

Put your analyst on danger money, baby.

I never understood those fake "wanna-Miis," either. Then again, imitation is flattery!

And yes, the Xbox 360 Avatars are called Avatars.

PS3's 'Mii' doesn't seem to be a huge role. Unlike Avatars or Miis, the character you make in Home is really only used in Home. I think having Home as a whole is a hunky optional download.

I recall Nintendo's regulations on Mii usage say that they can't be depicted in any harmful or dangerous situations, among other things. Even in Mario Kart Wii, they were only used as audience members.

The requirements are quite strict, so most games have to come up with their own system. It's disappointing, I know. They could be used a lot more imo. Hopefully the 3DS Miis will have more varied usage.

Everyone likes Miis.

You can't use em everywhere.

Somethings wrong here. And trust me I've used my Wii in far more dangerous and potentially harmful situations in Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics than these 3rd party sports games..

I'm afraid I'm going to have to correct you there. You can play as them - observe:

Yes I use my Mii on Mario Kart all the time you have to unlock the ability to use them.

Oh yeah you can even bump into them at the mall track. Far more dangerous than third party titles.
