@Bulbasaurus+Rex: Well, quite honestly we really haven't needed a double jump before. Yeah, it would've made the games easier, but adding a double jump to any platformer pretty much always makes it easier. And with a game of this length I'm not sure "easier" is a good thing anyway. I certainly would've opted for the single jump with non-weird physics instead, and relied on my skills to beat the game. Adding the double jump and butchering the physics seems silly and hacky.
Also, I was mainly referring to the control issues in the werehog stages of Unleashed, and how those carried over to Colors' "day stages". (but I made a crap job of it, lol). For instance, in Unleashed you double tap the analog stick to run. Why not just have you walk if you push it a little bit, or run if you do it all the way? Or even just add a run button like old school platformers? And in Colors, they moved the "zip" move bindings from the shoulder buttons to moving the analog stick left or right WHILE holding up. Seriously? It seems like Sonic Team thinks their mission in life is to make the most unintuitive and hacky control schemes ever.
I've played and completed Colours now (not got all the S-Ranks, not even close to that, but finished the story), and I'm not entirely sure what GameTrailers was going on about. There are a couple of crappy platforming sections, but by no means as all-pervasive as they made them out to be. And where they showed in the video Sonic missing stuff and falling to his death? After playing said sections, I'm convinced you'd have to make a complete hash of things to actually die on several of them. I tested one of their example points on Starlight Carnival, the only way I could make Sonic die at the point was to completely ignore the homing target icon and hammer the boost button instead. The later levels aren't as good as the first levels, certainly (what Sonic game is? Everyone loves blasting through Emerald Hill Zone, but mention Metropolis Zone and you'll get people frothing at the mouth at the thought of those goddamn preying mantises and flying proximity mines), but they're still fun. Infact, my favourite act in the entire game is Act 1 of the very final zone. The double-jump/homing thing? That was a problem on precisely one level. Out of forty-four. And again there was only a single level where the camera zoomed out so far it was tricky to see what was happening. And I'm not rocking a 32-inch plasma TV here. So yeah, fine. The negative points made in those reviews are legitimate enough, they're just not nearly as bad or as frequent as they're making them out to be. The level design isn't quite up to par with the best of Unleashed's day stages, but it's still good and it's still a blast running through them.
Oh yeah, my favourite feature is that Eggman shouts constant (and funny) announcements over the tannoy in each level. "Would the owner of the white hovercar shaped like an egg please report to security? Your vehicle has been broken into. Repeat, would the owner of the white hovercar shaped like an egg please report t-- WAIT, WHAT THE HECK?!" "Thank you for visiting Eggmanland Amusement Park. We value your feedback. Unless you didn't enjoy yourself... in which case, we don't care."
I was going to pick it up today, but my local Kmart didn't get it today. I have a $20 coupon to use there, so I figure I'll pick it up tomorrow as long as they have it in stock then. Anyone else have any comments about the game they want to share?
I really am loving the game, so I think it deserves all the good reviews. I am kind of blowing through the game, but I think there is a LOT of stuff to go back and collect if you are a completionist, like myself.

@Raylax Did you play the Wii or DS version? I'm thinking of getting the Wii version.
Wii version. It's brilliant. Haven't had chance to play the DS version yet (asides the one-level demo on the Nintendo Channel, which was pretty fun), but I'm sure to pick it up probably around Christmas.
I just beat the game today in 4 hours and 30 minutes, and I must say, for everyone complaining about the difficulty, it was very easy for me. Collecting all the red coins, that may take a while though. And I want to punch the idiot who decided to make the end credits that long and not have a skip button.

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
Getting the red medals is worth it both for what you get for getting them all, and how it shows you alternate paths through the levels. Sweet Mountain Act 3 is insane in the amount of ways it has through it. I have 15 hours into this and I love it. It's way beyond any Sonic game since the 16 bit ones.
Anyone try the challenge mode yet? 45 stages with no breaks, just like an old school game. It's just great.

Holy crap, that's amazing. o_O
Why can't it be Christmas yet...?
