i was thinking about this. this can open to anybody who suffers with OCD. rather than focusing your OCD on the appearance of something, such as your wii. or having to some meaningless task on a routine basis. how about using your OCD to your advantage, and re-direct it on something like studying something you`re interested in, or take up some form of art work, maybe take up some kind of sport or martial arts. OCD is part of who you are. if you use it positively, life will be far easier to live with it.
Of course I do; I like to keep my consoles and handhelds in as pristine condition as possible...

"OCD is often confused with the separate condition obsessive–compulsive personality disorder. The two are not the same condition, however. OCD is ego dystonic, meaning that the disorder is incompatible with the sufferer's self-concept.[21][37] Because disorders that are ego dystonic go against a person's self-concept, they tend to cause much distress. OCPD, on the other hand, is ego syntonic—marked by the person's acceptance that the characteristics displayed as a result of this disorder are compatible with his or her self-image. Ego syntonic disorders understandably cause no distress. People with OCD are often aware that their behavior is not rational and are unhappy about their obsessions but nevertheless feel compelled by them. People with OCPD are not aware of anything abnormal about themselves; they will readily explain why their actions are rational, and it is usually impossible to convince them otherwise. People with OCD are ridden with anxiety; by contrast, people with OCPD tend to derive pleasure from their obsessions or compulsions"
Ask yourself this - Do you take pleasure in cleaning your consoles and taking care of it? Do you believe it's important? If you do... it's not OCD even if you do it on an obsessive basis.
So ends a saga older than time itself. The World's oldest and fiercest army has been led to victory, and a lost generation is delivered from its fear of extinction. As the sun sets over the field of conflict the dinosaurs disperse, hoping never to set foot in this place a...
i wipe my wii of often to get the dustt off and i try to keep my disks scratch free. but for my dsi i always have screen protectors. and i try to keep it from getting scratched

While this is good advice, it's not that easy for most OCD sufferers, as many have little control over how their affliction manifests itself. This may work for some, but not the "real" OCD sufferer.
On console care, i keep mine in nice cosmetic shape. For older consoles (which are for the most part boxed up in the closet when not in use until i finally one day have space for a game room), i'll usually do a full cleaning with isopropyl alchohol and many many q-tips/swabs (especially for the much older consoles like the 2600 and Colecovision) before storing them. For my current in-use consoles (360, Wii), i'll give them a once over whenever i do usual living room dusting and such.
I think everyone cares about their consoles and handhelds, but not to the extreme. Like if your DSi gets a scratch big deal, its not broken, but if the screen gets major damage it is a problem. No one wants to spend 200+ dollars on another console/handheld.
I try to keep my consoles in mint condition, but I bought my Wii secondhand from my wifes little brother, and he beat the shit out of it! So it obviously doesn't look anywhere near new.
I look after most things I own pretty well, not obsessively, more due to the fact I can't afford to keep buying new stuff I keep my consoles out of reach of my toddler's sticky hands and give em a quick dust now and then and on rare occasions they get a little sucky, sucky from the old hoover. The exception to this rule is handhelds, phones, ipods etc. Those things just get trashed with me though they all still work (well the iPod's a bit iffy but then that did get put through a 60°C spin cycle Thanks wifey!!).
I don't mind a little scrapes and dings on my consoles. I do like to have them nice and clean and dust them off quite a bit, but as long as they work I don't get too obsessive with them.
Now my games on the other hand are a completely different story. I have to have my discs perfect and it really upsets me if they get scratched. I used to refuse to buy used disc based games because of that. Even if the game is resurfaced, it still looks damaged in my eyes. Lately though I have started to loosen up. I have been buying used PS1 games, but I think that might just be because it is getting harder to find them still sealed and at reasonable prices.
Yeah I'm the same with my games, they are always put straight back in the box after use, drives me mad if they get scratched . My CD's hmm not so much...
I've also got OCD. All of my stuff is in Fantastic Condition....Except my original Gameboy, the screen is Scratched and clouded and now the Sound won't even work I'm also a big neat freak, and I'm huge on how my things, my place or even myself look. I take pride in my shniz' to put it simple. I've got a tiny dent in my Elebits and Zack & Wiki cases and everything time i see it, it really annoys me. My Wario Ware Smooth Moves game that I baught used also has alittle rip on the side, ugh! Other than that, all of my Wii, Nes, Snes, GCN, GB and GBA games are in amazing shape, along with my consoles and controllers.
As of now I'm really getting annoyed by a couple of my Wii Remotes....On one the 'A' buttons seems slightly clickier(Which I like) than the other 2 Wii Remotes I have. And one of the backings one of my Wii Remote seems alittle loose and can be alittle noisy when I play. I blame my friend for that because he dropped my Wii Remote, Those things really annoy me and I sometimes think about buying new ones
I like to see my handhelds all nice and spiffy. Same goes for the Wii.
Whenever my guardian feels intent on taking away my console, I'd always be the one to do quality control in case some freak accident takes place and my console is smashed.
Well, yeah, 'cuz if it's broken, I can't play games on it anymore. I don't go out of my way to keep them clean or anything, but I'm always careful about where I put them, I when I handle them, period.
Hand-helds and home consoles are completely different beasts. For home consoles, I just don;t want them broken really... Hand-helds though...I just don;t like having my screen smudgy, then I can never seem to un-smudge it. Either way, I like them working and I don't like dirty screens.
