This has been announced by Majesco for $19.99 according to IGN. It will also feature some sort of achievment style system that will be tied in with your Mii. This sounds like its shaping up to be a good collection
@Jayarr So far these are the games listed on the press release. There will be 15 total but stay tuned more will be announced! Here is what I pulled off IGN.
Players can now enjoy some of the best shooter, sports, puzzle and twitch action video games ever created in one convenient package. Data East Arcade Classics features 15 nostalgic titles, including: BurgerTime and its sequel, Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory, Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja, Burnin' Rubber, Heavy Barrel, Caveman Ninja, Magical Drop III, Side Pocket and many more. The collection keeps the classics intact but also includes special updates for the modern gamer: players can link their high scores to their Mii and accomplish 75 different goals across the games that let them unlock a wealth of bonus material, from soundtracks to bezels. Finally, all 15 games support single player and 2-player head-to-head or co-operative multiplayer along with Wii Remote and Nunchuk, Classic Controller or GameCube controller functionality.
Heavy Barrel rocks, I wonder if they'll use remote twist to do the joystick rotation or dump it to lock firing direction with movement direction. I would hope that they'd do something like support dual stick play via CC at a minimum to maintain the ability to move and fire in different directions.
U.S. version is going to retail for $19.99 which is not a bad price. Doubt I will get it though since too many other games are coming out and I have a couple compilation discs to play yet.
I notice they've got bezels and marquees to unlock -- I hope the games allow you to play with the bezels on -- I like that about Namco Museum Remix very much.
I mailed Majesco about a European release and got this:
Hi Thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately we cannot confirm Data East Classics for Euro release at this time but watch this space for the latest updates on it.
If I score that NA Wii I've got a high bid on I'll just import; it'll probably turn out cheaper anyway!
I am pretty positive/ cup half full type of fella, so I won't dwell on a paltry 15 games compared to PS3 Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection's 40 plus titles. ....edit: You can't argue with $19.99 though, however I would have been up for paying more money to play more games.... I will still definitely get this, I completely support a classic arcade maestro like Data East having their games released on Wii and I will simply kick back with the Bad Dudes, Crude Busters and Mr Joe and Mac (Caveman Ninja has aged fairly well, as a jolly arcade platformer). I am most looking forward to Secret Agent (I remember it as like Rolling Thunder, with a classic level in which the background has the Washington DC Abraham Lincoln Memorial). Is Heavy Barrel similar to Ikari Warriors? It may be foolish of me, but I still have my fingers crossed for unlockables, in particular Midnight Resistance would make the entire collection for me. Nice job Majesco, I'm going to get this and I hope that there wil be a sequel to this one, too.
I am passionate about retro gaming, from antiquated consoles to the continuation of classics. Obviously I love PSone, and PS2 retro games. I blast my ears to breakneck melodic punk, gruff vocals and nimble alternative guitar hooks.
