And for the lazy, from GoNintendo:
"Looks like we have some more information coming from that Capcom interview that we posted earlier. Here are some more details that are sure to make you a bit upset.

  • 3 weeks after launch in Europe, RE:DC sold just 16k, where RE:UC sold 140k
  • Capcom thinks Wii is important for family-friendly titles, but the future for them is more aimed at the 360/PS3

Things aren't looking very good for future Capcom support. If Resident Evil can't move, and Spyborgs bombed bigtime, why would they bother to put out anymore big-name Wii games?"

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

Wow, thats a big difference between the two RE titles.

Sad to hear cause UC was quite nice and DC looked pretty awesome.

They aren't exactly done with the Nintendo Wii. I mean it's just two title. On the flipside, Monster Hunter 3 was an massive success in Japan and will probably be so around the world and Tatsunko Vs. Capcom shouldn't fail too hardly, right?

I think Spyborgs is great. Unforunately, not enough people (especially reviewers) understand how fun beat-'em-up games are, anymore. If you like Streets of Rage, Final Fight, and classic TMNT beat-'em-ups, then you should like Spyborgs.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

I didn't even realise Spyborgs came out... yet another case of hyping a game up, then failing to market it. >: (

can see why they are giving up on wii. TOO MUCH SHOVELWARE DETRACTED THE HARDCORE AUDIENCE AND WHATEVER IS LEFT OF THE HC NINTENDO FANBASE IS GOING DOWN. NINTENDO SHOULD START GETTING THEIR CRAP TOGETHER OR THEY WILL BECOME THE LAUGHING STALK OF THE GAMING COMMUNITY! I HAVE A WII FOR THE NINTENDO MADE GAMES, BUT LATELY THERE HAVENT BEEN TOO MANY.

@SSBF1999: Let's hope MH3 does well when it comes out.

If this is true, I may have to get a ps3 if the wand works out and is used for these. I loved playing RE4 and UC with the wiimote. That's the way I want to play my FPS.

It was RE4 that sold 140k according to the article. But I hope Capcom continues making Wii games. I love all of it so far. I could understand why a game like RE: DC wouldn't appeal to the casual family gamer, but a game like Zack & Wiki should have done very well. I haven't seen any adds though when it was released, this would have been a game that should have really thrived on ads.

It doesn't surprise me, really. It has become clear that the wave of "mature" and/or "hardcore" Wii games simply came too late in the console's life. Most everybody who would've been interested got tired of waiting and went elsewhere. Of course, there remains the sensible argument that Nintendo consoles have NEVER been the default "home" of M-rated titles, meaning that Nintendo's fanbase would generally be less inclined to purchase these titles in the first place. I know I'M not interested in any of the recent M-rated titles that have sold like crap.

It seems to me that Capcom would be better off making more games like Zack & Wiki on Wii than Resident Evil. Granted, Zack & Wiki didn't sell what they'd hoped, but it was better off and more fitting for the system, IMO.

It's clear to me (and only just becoming clear to developers) that gamers simply don't WANT these types of games on Wii. Sure, there are exceptions (they tend to congregate on this site, I think), but working at GameStop makes it obvious: Wii+M rating=fail. Last thing I want to see is devs dropping the console because those types of titles don't sell. Just make something else, guys!

Spyborgs might have bombed, but when you factor in the overall quality of that title...

A Zack & Wiki sequel using MotionPlus would make me get a MotionPlus.

What are these companies expecting from Onrail shooters? They weren't even that popular when they were popular. I think it's more likely that people are waking up from the days of "brand buying" and instead of buying a half assed game because it says Resident Evil, they are buying games that actually have some thought put in them. Capcom released those two RE shooters and basically told people, "You know those RE games you've already played, beaten and are now bored with? Play them again here with even less control!"

Then again this company has never been about trying new things, it's always rested on franchises and slightly changing them up. Look at the NES/SNES/Genesis era for that, they kept releasing Mega Man over and over again with a few changes, Street Fighter II with a few different characters and stages and now they are doing the same thing with Resident Evil. It's time for these game companies to get their heads out of their butts and realize that it's the fans that they should try to please with games worth buying and not that the fans should please them by buying everything they put out no matter the quality.

Maybe all of their games are doing poorly because...ohhhh....I don't knowww...maybe it's because they gave us lackluster games that sucked? Capcom, don't blame Nintendo and the Wii for you're own failures. Fix your games, stop being greedy DLC-whores, and get your act together. Maybe this is why Ninty isn't letting them do Zelda anymore.

C v T will sell OK, but honestly, I know characters from T but I don't care about them enough to get the game...I have M v C 2...I'm good. Monster Hunter 3 will be very telling, though. If it sells well, then Capcom might change their tune but it also depends on how much promotion Capcom decides to put in Monster Hunter 3...shinkukage...lol...your comment made me laugh. Thank you for that.

Note to developers : If people are not buying all of these rail shooters should that not be a hint that they are not in high demand and instead of whining to gaming sites about sales just stop making them and change up your strategy. Note I like HOTD Overkill ( a SEGA title )and that is the only rail shooter I have and will purchase this generation.

Objection

A shame that DC isn't doing that well, since it's a marked improvement over UC. I hope that MH3 does as well upon its international release as it did in Japan. I know I will be picking up a copy.

@Ilike

That's the problem. They expect people to buy it just because of the license on the package. If you notice most of this stuff about dropping the Wii because of sales comes from Japanese companies that won't evolve with the times. They believe that they are 100% right all the time and it isn't their fault they fail so it must be the customers or the hardware.

Sure, most of their games so far have sucked, and Rowdy says it best about the distinctly apathetic (and frankly, confused) reaction the Wii audience has had the not at all glorious return of the on-rails light gun genre. Just because the Wii does the boring genre better than previous consoles, but that doesn't make it less boring.

However, Capcom is not entirely groundless here, and as enough posters have mentioned already, not all of their games were terrible. Okami should have sold better. I never played Zak and Wiki, but for something so universally acclaimed, it's surprising how poorly it did. I can hardly blame Capcom for that. Nintendo's plan for the Wii and DS has always been to broaden the market with gateway games and then draw those fans in further, converting them into "core" gamers. But that hasn't happened. Reggie's dream of graduating Wii Sports athletes to Metroid Prime 3 bounty hunters -- only a dream.

There was a sense of promise that someday the Wii would be the home to a broader market for games like these, but it isn't. The people who own a Wii for Wii Sports and Wii Fit aren't buying many other games, if any. The Wii has just created a new market, and there seems to be very little interchange from what I've seen, though I know there are always stories of exceptions.

The DS, though, for some reason seems to have worked out according to plan. I know people who wanted Brain Age and Animal Crossing and then decided to try Zelda or even third-party games (shocking, I know). Why not the Wii? I'm not sure. Maybe the higher price of games. I don't know.
