I'm struggling to believe what has happened to me today. The HDMI port (OF ALL THINGS), in an unbelievable twist of irony, has now broken on my PS3, so I can't sell it unless I can get it repaired. I've got an old netbook with a broken screen, and I've been trying to hook it up to my TV to use as a retro gaming machine running Puppy Linux Arcade (lightweight OS bundled with about 15 emulators). While setting it up next to the PS3 I must have somehow knocked the HDMI cable, damaging the port and resulting in a vivid blue tint on the display. I've tried a different cable and a different port on the TV to no avail, and it works through SCART, so it can only be the port that's damaged.
I don't know if that can be repaired for free under the warranty, but I hope it can because I have no money to pay for repairs.
I have an Xbox 360 but it just sits there collecting dust, the games just aren't there for me. I've considered selling it but it seems there isn't much demand for them in the marketplace! FF Crystal Bearers on Wii looks very nice, and it's a fun game that's only available on Wii. The game selection on the other consoles is just so disappointing, Wii is miles ahead of them.
That's why you must be discreet when speaking about your electronics: if they hear you, they might martyr themselves in protest.
My scenario was almost the opposite: I had been known for going on about how I didn't want to upgrade to an HD TV, given how beautifully my late-model standard TV rendered the Wii's low-res output, and about a month ago it just decided to break, forcing me to upgrade much sooner than I would like. After fine-tuning the settings on my new plasma for many hours, however, I'm finally quite happy with the picture the Wii produces via component cables (and a good plasma set will generally not have the lag issues that so plague many of the LCDs out there), so I suppose all is well.

For those hoping the current cinematic approach to games ends, that's a bit strange. Has this generation not proven that both the hardcore and casual crowds (again, I hate those terms) can thrive?

I love my Wii games, and I hate all the PS3/360 fans' reactions... it's the only thing that ruins the Wii experience for me. it's pretty insane but that's the way it is. Personally btw, without looking at graphics in general, the SD/HD is meaningless to me. I really can hardly see any difference between SD and HD. I compared the screenshots of Galaxy in 720p on the PC to my SD TV same scene in SMG and there was no difference. Seriously.

My wish is Nintendo comes out with a first party Wiimote + nunchuck wireless with built-in M+ on BOTH the Wiimote and the Nunchuck, with improved nunchuck accelometer. That's about as perfect as that tech could be, and I'm not sure how feasible the cost would be.
IMHO: I don't want that, because I don't see any advantage of having the WM+ inside. It's the same thing as it is now, and I already spent the money on this. I also don't see any advantage for wireless nunchuk! It's just more batteries/more chargers.

Uncharted 2 > Wii's entire catalog. There's just nothing that delivers a comparably cinematic experience on the Wii.
A Boy and His Blob? Come on.....
So, if you are looking for good cinematics, why don't you just stick to watching movies? You see, generally, people play games for the gameplay, not for cinematics.

Being cinematic doesn't mean it doesn't have the gameplay.

Yes, but he was saying that Uncharted is better than every wii game because no wii game has cinematics as good as Uncharted.

if you saw the iwata asks interviews about it, it took nintendo a long time to find a way to fit the motion + into the remote since the remote base was never designed to hold anything securely. early versions of the + had their hooks break off, and then when they made stronger steel hooks, the bottoms of the remotes broke off.
so, the answer was to use the giant rubber sleeve to keep it in place, which is obviously not ideal. the motion+ has come out on a few occasions for me, when i'm swinging like a complete freak mostly, but it does happen. it's also the case that you have to remove that silicon sleeve every time you change batteries or recharge...
the off-brand wiimotes have demonstrated that it's now possible to make smaller, lighter, easier to recharge remotes with full motion+ functionality. there's a lot of room for improvement when it comes to battery life and the need for constant calibration, and i hope nintendo does address those issues in a new remote too. if nintendo made an updated remote like that and you didn't have a motion+ already i'm sure you'd think it was awesome, right?

Agreed. I'm sure you'd have no problem selling remotes and motion-plus add-ons on Ebay. Myself I have three Wiis and five remotes so it's not a big deal for me -- I could buy four "remote+" units and not have any extras!

Oh dear, and to think I liked you Swerd. I don't want a 'cinematic experience', I want to play games, and that I think is the huge difference between some gamers these days. I want to be taken away from reality, not brought closer to it. Also, as I've said many times before.... dual analogue is a no go for me, a massive backward step I refuse to take, regardless of how ultra shiny the game may be.
I have a DX11 PC and a dumb 360, but... I spend 95% of my time game time playing on Wii.

I don't want to tell you you're wrong, but games like Unchartered, MGS4 and Batman are totally immersive experiences. The HD graphics help you to experience the world better, just like watching a film on a home cinema system is more immersive than on an old SD telly.
In my opnion you've got it the wrong way round; it's the Wii which only distracts from the real world, whereas it's the PS3 which allows you to explore other worlds and environoments for a fantastic experience.
I'm not saying the Wii doesn't have great games (Metroid Prime, Zelda, Mario Galaxy, RE4), I'm just saying their to few and far between for gamers seeking great action/adventure experiences. As I've said before you have games like that coming out on PS3 almost every week and YES they totally rip off Zelda and Metroid (Darksiders spring to mind) but who cares. If Nintendo are so focussed on causal/party gaming that's fine, but thank god Sony is there to think about solo gamers.
I just want to reiterate for Nintendo fanboys that nobody does it better than Nintendo. but and it's a big BUT they haven't done it enough over the last couple of years.
You can tell me I'm wrong if you want Bouncydude. i won't listen Anyway, we are just repeating the same old same old which is happening in countless forums around teh web, right now! Yawn!
I'm struggling to keep up with all the quality titles on Wii, so I have no need to explore the other systems. Plus, I'm a massive Nintendoid, so I shouldn't have to explain myself. I don't like the new boys (Sony or Microsoft) so am doing my best to ignore them. If there is a game that interests me (only really fps's) then I play it on PC and get the true experience.
Mouse is God! Wii-mote is demi-God! Dual analogue is gimp!
S&M know this too, hence their late 'attempts' at motion control, which most armchair lovin' pad hugging 360/PS3 owners will hate, HD or not
I'm sorry to bore you Machu with my 'same old, same old' line of argument, but I just think you're missing out on some great games. You say you have an Xbox 360 so might I recommend to you Batman Arkham Asylum and Bayonetta, both great games that push forward their respective genres. Or are you too much of a Nintendoid to admit that there are good games on other sytems? I mean lets face it if the Wii was more powerful, no doubt those games would be published on Wii (3rd party developers) and you would be singing their praises. So why don't you push your fanboyism to one side and go and enjoy these great games?
Dude, don't worry I plan to catch up with anything I have missed, in that quiet period between the Wii's demise and the birth of Wii2. I am a fanboy, but not a blind one, and I'm not foolish enough to deny myself some of this gens classics based on some bizarre allegiance (which I admit, it is). I'd love to not even have this discussion, I don't know why we do. But, if you're not an HD gamer, by some, you are considered kiddy or casual. As a grown man that gets my back up and I become defensive.
