You sound like you have similar gaming preferences to mine. Wii has so many good games for people who have a more traditional level of interest in games. I've been saying for 10 years how convoluted modern games are becoming with long cinema scenes, complicated plots and one button interactions that more or less continue said cinema scenes, just with a different outcome. To me these things really make for more of an interactive movie than what I know to be a video game. I don't want to say that the 360 and PS3 are ONLY these types of games though, because they have plenty of games I like as well but the Wii really is far and away above the competition in this regard.
Future Wii purchases: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Metroid: Other M Zelda Wii New Super Mario Bros. Wii Sin and Punishment 2
I have a PS3 and a Wii. I've been a Nintendo fanboy since birth, but I love my PS3 too. While I definitely think you should get another Wii, I would personally keep the PS3.
Get a great single player game like Uncharted 2.
Stay away from the crappy 360.
yep i agree. and there are games like ittle big planet that have a good art style and sense of humor. its like a wii game but on an hd console.(by like a wii game i mean wii games are always creative and lbp is creative.)

um what have you been playing??? uncharted 2 has long cinematic sequences and great gameplay. mgs4 has a 1.5 hour opening and the game is long as hell! heavy rain is the only thing that i know is button press but thats the point of the game.

I like the varied control possibilities (or just the fact that the controller is split in two)
I don't think this design of the Wii-mote gets enough praise. I can't tell you how much I enjoy being able to keep my arms and hands appart when playing game, particularly longer games. The fact the nunchuck is separate lets me find the most comfortable way to play a long lasting game like TP, Mario Galaxy or Little Kings Story. The pros of the separatiion far outweight the cons of having that wire between them.
My wish is Nintendo comes out with a first party Wiimote + nunchuck wireless with built-in M+ on BOTH the Wiimote and the Nunchuck, with improved nunchuck accelometer. That's about as perfect as that tech could be, and I'm not sure how feasible the cost would be.
Count me in for this love-fest.
I love the fact that the Wii controls are separated, letting me stretch or scratch my nose while still playing. And small things like the built-in speaker adding immersive sound effects, ability to play many games using only one hand, support for left-handed gamers (when the software offers it), and ease of use for people who are new to gaming were also great decisions.
Sure, there are some kinks to work out regarding motion sensitivity and offering an official wireless nunchuck by default instead of relying on 3rd party solutions would be nice... but the fact that Nintendo is the only company who innovated on how games are controlled was a huge plus for me when picking a console this generation. Seems like a big risk to take when designing the console, but one that paid off in spades for them.

Yeah, convoluted is the right word, I should've used that. I also like the PC as a platform for old-school gaming; indie development seems to be thriving at the moment, or perhaps I've just become more aware of it. Genetos is the most recent example. I just don't really like gaming on my laptop compared to my TV.
people talk so much about the wii library being oversaturated with casual games, but the other systems have the same problem with their libraries. it's just that with them, it's FPS suffocating the system rather than crappy party games.
i've tried giving the other consoles a chance and even the best and biggest games they've got to offer aren't very fun in my opinion; modern warfare 2 is technically the best shooter i've ever played, but somehow doesn't do anything for me. how long can you walk around shooting everything that moves, a premise that's already getting dull, before you're completely bored? perfect dark is more fun to me, even though it's aged terribly. resident evil 5 is the best HD title i've played, and is honestly a great game... but not as fun as resident evil 4 wii edition. metal gear 4 was decent during it's 45 minutes of gameplay, then the 7 hours of cinema scenes bored me to death. games like that are the exact reason i didn't want an HD system, because the developers are trying so hard to impress you that they lose focus on making the games fun. i don't want to pay $60 to give my entertainment system a workout.
that's it; that's the story of every HD game i've tried. very impressive, very amazing to look at, and very boring. say what you will about the wii being underpowered or too casual, but when you really look at the best games each system has to offer the wii has the best games by a wide margin.
@shake_zula Thanks dude, that opening post was a good read. I completly see where your coming from.As my time for gaming becomes less and less I find myself being drawn more and more towards bare bones games. While I can enjoy a good immersive 3D game like Fallout 3 or Gears of War I find with a lot of games like MW2 boring after a short while.Their relentless 'realism' becomes depressing and ends up turning me off the game. I own a 360,Wii and DS and its the DS that see's the most action by far because of the instant pure gameplay that can be found in its Libary.I use my Wii mainly for VC , Nintendo games and the ord 3rd party games like LKS and Madworld and the 360 is really only used at the moment for Arcade style racing games (Sega Rally,Burnout etc) and the odd 'big' game (still not finished Fallout 3 yet!!). Anyway I'm really liking the trend at the moment of going back to 2-D based games and am glad that there seems to have been a positive consumer reaction to this type of game.Long may it last I say.
Very interesting read. Nice to see you back in the Wii community. Also, this is an very rare exception when a person sells his Wii for an HD console, then sold it for a Wii.
I just cannot find any desire to play it, because of my personal concept of what a game should be: a bare-bones, linear, concentrated abstraction of a challenge to reflexes, awareness, timing and memory.
Just do yourself a favor and get an NES. You'll have way more games to play than on any modern system.
If the only games you were really interested in were Modern Warfare 2 and Dragon Age: Origins, why didn't you just upgrade your PC? Both of those games were released for Windows...
I agree. Seriously, I hate whenever I hear someone saying "Good Graphics" as the first reason to buy a games. Many HD games seem to be all about being flashy and attractive. The Wii catalogue seems so much better to me

Didn't you hear that the PC version of MW2 kinda, you know, sucked?
Also, I'm not surprised that you didn't think MW2 was all that worth it. Out of the three COD games I have played, (COD2, MW, MW2), MW2 is the worst. But that isn't saying that it is bad. It is a good game, but not one of the games that defines the HD consoles.
The Game.
Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

I hadn't heard that because I don't really care about that game. I see now that indeed it is crap. Well, at least for a PC game that should allow a lot of customization, dedicated servers, etc.
@shake_zula: Great opening post; it was a good read, yet, It could've easily been summarized in three simple words: Gameplay over graphics...
"Don't make enemies, they'll stab your heart; don't make friends, they'll stab your back. Including me, including you, all men are trash. Don't love; don't be loved. Have nothing to do with other; live in isolation."
Never did I say those games are bad or not fun, just that I prefer games that get to the point, like in the days of old. Basically NSMBW / A Boy and His Blob > MGS4 / Uncharted. Also, TONS of games these days use single button context scenes. It's one of the many reasons why Kingdom Hearts > Kingdom Hearts II.

You sound like me when I got and Xbox and traded it for a Gamecube. PS2 never interested me and the Xbox ws just like the PS2 but "prettier".
I personally don't have an "aversion" to HD gaming. I do have an aversion to the way Gaming has been developing since the PSOne eras: mimicking Movies. I have been playing since the Atari games and I like my games to make me feel thrilled and anxious and not bored and "artsy". There are some cinematic games I do like but there are very few.
I choose the Wii not because it was the #1 console but because it has the kind of games I do always loved, more arcade oriented and less movie-like. I have been thinking in buying a HD console but there are only 2 game I am interested on them (RE5 and SF4). Not enough to spend that kind of money at least for now.
I am glad the Wii is winnng because that may be the end of the cinematic era soon and games will be back to be games again.

oh yes, i agree, especially after playing games like MGS4 and Heavy Rain-demo (just two examples of many) with bombastic presentation but minimalistic gameplay... i hope this direction won't be successful, if simple interactive movies for the mainstream are the future i'll stick to my old classic consoles of the good old times when games were about gameplay
