Well, we should all know November 19 marks the Wii's 3rd anniversary! (And the release of the Wii Zapper...)
Anyways, so I'm guessing Nintendo will be expecting us to play Mario's latest adventure on a special day for them!
The question here is: Did 3 years of Wii manage to change the gaming world's previous thoughts of a one-sided control scheme and lack of innovation? And an important question (actually 2): Why did you buy your Wii console and how long have you had it for?

I've only had mine since Christmas 07. Two years for me.
And the NSMBWii thing probably isn't because of the Wii's release, its probably because Miyamoto's birthday is like a day away from the release. I know this because of my awesome Nintendo Power calender.
The Game.
Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.
I got mine at the beginning of 2008 with my tax return and also picked up Twilight Princess. It was a fun day. I bought it because the games I wanted to play this generation are on the Wii.
I got mine on launch day. I was actually on a launch line for about 3-4 hours in front of my Target. That was actually a lot of fun, and I'll be doing it on the next Nintendo console launch. I got 3 games with my Wii too so I had plenty to play. Twilight Princess, ExciteTruck, and Rayman Raving Rabbids. Man, that was such a fun day.
As for your first question, the Wii has definitely had a lot of innovation in gaming compared to PS3 & 360 (Adding to your console interface =/= not innovation. Hello Netflix, Twitter, and Facebook on consoles....) Too many people are still complaining about aspects of the Wii that aren't true and it seems like there's more people complaining every year despite the great games that come out. Why can't people just shut up and play the damn game?
My parents got it a few days after launch, but I never got it until XMAS when I went outside at like 1am to check the presents, in which I found a Massive Wii shaped box.

It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

Got mine a little before xmas last year when I went from temp to permanent at my job. I had wanted one for a while, because I'd played my friend's and had a good time, but couldn't justify making the purchase without a guaranteed income stream.

I can defiantly see that the wii has brought gaming to more people and to a more social activity. The wii is great when you have guests, it is easy for newcomers to get their hands on the simple yet fun mini sports games. Even the older family members have fun when they visit, and my mother has brought a wii of her own after playing with ours. She would defiantly not have done that with any other gaming console.
I only got mine about three months ago, and it was actually the wifes purchase. While she really has spending time on the new controls in things like Sports Resort and Wii Fit, I spend more time on good old fashioned gaming with the classic controller and a lot of VC games
Question #1: Well...I'm not sure. While the Wii did change how casual video games are, it didn't change the industry by almost any means. Sure, some waggle controls are great and almost essential (case in point: Okami), but many games are still preferable as a controller instead of a wand that you have to waggle this way and that way.
Question #2: I got mine in the Summer of 2007, luckily finding one it at Walmart.

Answer to #1 no. I'm the only person of my group of friends that has a Wii, & the only one that will even give it a chance. I've heard people say that they don't like the Wii because they have to move.... way to reinforce that sterotype of the lazy fat pimply faced gamer guys.
answer to #2 I got 1 because since the days of the NES I have been a hardcore Nintendo fan, that don't mean I won't play other systems, but I will buy multiplatform games on a Nintendo system to support them. The idea of motion control intreaged me & I loved the idea of the VC. (too bad Nintendo dropped the ball on that by releasing only 1 game a week). I've had my Wii since launch.
Flandre Scarlet, she's cute, she's colorful, she can blow up entire cities, she's also a vampire. Start running sparklepants.
I was hyped for the Revolution from the moment it was announced. I pre-ordered, and queued up at midnight to get my hands on the Wii, Twilight Princess, and Red Steel. I got home shortly after, and had lots of fun un-boxing my sexy new console. I had work the following day, but played bowling and Zelda till 4 in the morning, I was a complete mess. I still remember how strange it was having colleagues and friends eager to hear about the console, that hadn't happened with 64 and GC and it was exciting for a massive Ninty fan like myself. I spent the next 2 months lumping it around from house to house, getting drunk and playing Wii-Sports with friends. Gaming had become social all of a sudden, and everyone who played Wii promptly bought one, as soon as they could find one in stock of course.
I'm so grateful to have friends who lean in Nintendo's direction. We spent years playing the very same games that PS360 fans are getting all excited about now. I'm so grateful we were given something new to play with, instead of the same old, same old, which is all I see on the rival consoles. The one mate I do have who's a 360 freak, sits there all evening glued to CoD:MW & co. chattin' sh1t and listening to American teens chattin' sh1t. So f***in' boring!
Admittedly, Wii hasn't quite reached the massive potential we all imagined at first, but in terms of sales, it has. You only have to look at the competition, desperate to copy Nintendo's ideas again, but of course, as usual, they won't be half as fun. Sony and Microsoft make technology, not fun, that's Nintendo's business.
Roll on 2010, there's enough good games being released to see the Wii challenge, right to it's death.
I purchased mine at 12:00am on release day in a little town in N.C. The control scheme intrigued me, not to mention all the hype. I got home and set it up, played for a few hours, then slept for a few hours before work. Twilight Princess was the game I purchased with it.
For your first question, it's quite split. On the one hand, it has defindently changed the gaming industry. The Wii is an extremely innovative console. Never before have we imagined how motion controls would work. Fiancially and to me, it defindently paid off. Nintendo took a huge gamble and they succeeded.
However, for most long-time fans (Unless you're in Nintendo Life), it hasn't changed squat, which result in them hating Nintendo for it. They litterally hate Nintendo for it so much, that I think there is a possibility of a protest all because the fanbase won't change there view on motion controls. Eventually, they'll have too, because it will be on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, so they'll have to grow up and accept the fact that motion controls are here.
To answer your 2nd question, I got mine on April 22, 2007. Here's why I wanted it. I wanted it because of motion controls. Imagnie being able to mimick your character in a game! That sounded incerabile! So I asked my grandparents to get me one and ever since then, I've enjoyed the Wii.
My dad just came home with a Wii one day because he said he could use some exercise but a couple weeks later BOOM, he gave it to me because he didn't like it. He got it summer of '07
