I'd like to hear the opinions of my respected fellow NLifers too. I have no plans to buy this game at all, but it would be interesting if any people on this forum bought this game and confirmed Chicken's review score. o_O
Of course the score is subjective, but "a game that scores a nine should be considered a must buy for fans of the genre. Of course if we give a nine to a racing game and you only enjoy RPGs then this probably won't change your mind." [1] NL hopes that their reviews amount to a little more than "I liked it"/"I didn't like it".
Or as tbd so astutely said in the review's comments section:
@Alexneon: on the contrary -- because the reviewer enjoyed the game so much, I'd have to assume that he indeed thought it was SUPER AWESOME. as always, though, we do recommend searching out multiple reviews so that you're able to read through as many different viewpoints/opinions as possible before a purchase. :3
Reason enough for me to want to hear some user opinions on the game? I know the tastes of a fair few people round these parts and it would be interesting to hear their opinions on this game. The score was somewhat controversial after all.
Was it? It seems like the only folks questioning it were those who hadn't played it.
Which is the vast majority of people on this site, it seems. Just go look at the comments again and read all the "wasn't expecting this score" comments. I'm not saying it's an inaccurate review at all. I just was pleasantly surprised by the high score awarded so I'd appreciate it if anyone who purchases the game can corroborate the high score. So far so good.
Haha, no, I understand that, but it's a bit difficult to call a score controversial if the objections come from people who didn't play the game...regardless of how many or how few that may be.
I will be getting this game soon. Kinda sad, most wont try new games unless its a well known developer or part of a series they are familiar with.
Yeah, but not everyone has or feels the urge to risk their money on something completely new and different. I know I'm one such person. Airport Mania doesn't seem like my kind of game, and even if it's only $5, that's $5 I can spend on something I trust will be worthwhile. With that said, I certainly hope you get your money's worth, however you may define that.
Well, I have played it and agree whole-heartedly with the review. This game would appeal to a wide-variety of folks. It has elements from real-time strategy, resource management, puzzle, simulation. It's quite challenging and not the least bit childish despite the child-friendly graphics. I keep going back to levels until I get the highest rating on each which offers nice replay value. I've probably played for over 5 hours and am not half-way through all the levels yet.
Yeah this game is great and the cute factor really doesn't play at all into the game. Too busy managing the planes etc. This reminds me of Diner Dash, but in the air and much more addicting. Well worth the 500.
If Diner Dash hadn't had unforgivably crappy controls I wouldn't be interested because I'd essentially already have this game, but it does have super-pants X-box joypad controls, so I want this.
I could probably get a similar game for cheaper on my new iPhone, but the reality is that I literally play a game for a spare one or two minutes on that device to kill time; I'm not going to do real gaming on it. 500 points seems okay to me.
I got this after enjoying the DSiWare game and I'm not sure which one I like better. The DSi stylus controls are a "touch" more precise, but the WiiWare version seems to give a larger scope of the action with the whole airport in wide screen view, not to mention more features and stages. But at 500 points for the WiiWare version and 200 for the DSiWare, it's easy to get both! The gameplay is addicting and it's a great game so you won't mind playing through it twice in slightly different versions. Haven't tried the WiiWare multiplayer yet though.
