Topic: Activision Arcade Zone -- this on anyone's radar?

So I'm browsing the upcoming releases and I see this one again that I had noted before, but didn't bother to check into. I click the link and what do I see?

A) It's from Activision and therefore not exactly some throwaway mini-game collection

B) The cover makes mention of Kaboom!, Megamania, Freeway and Atlantis -- three classic 8-bit console/computer titles from Activision and one from Imagic?!?

It's not clear from the box if there's more, but there's an air hockey, ski ball and other mini-games. I'm wondering if anyone else saw this game and what -- if anything -- anyone else knows about it. It's a budget title coming out next week-end. I'm going to try to find video of it.

Here's the GAME entry which has the back text reproduced under the Product Details tab:

Youtube review:

Looks like a bunch of mini-games, but the graphically updated 2600 games are the clear draw. You can earn virtual patches for these by beating different scores (sadly there are only the four mentioned). Now if they had done this as a repackaged Activision Anthology that would have been amazing.

I may still check this out if I can get it cheap enough. Depending on the price at GAME retail I may even part with some credit and pick it up for review on this very website, but no promises.

never heard of a one of those, but it seems like a decent package, if, as you said, it can be found inexpensively.

After watching the youtube video you posted, this game is on my radar

I’m actually more interested in the minigames than the Atari 2600 games. The minigame that got me excited in the video was the one where you build the tower with three horizontal blocks (not sure what the game machine is called).

Maybe by getting this Wii game, I can finally win those block tower games at my Walmart and win that dang PSP inside the machine lol. Now if Arcade Zone had a crane machine game, instant buy for me!

Thanks for the heads up on this game !

Why can't we just get stuff like this on WiiWare? I'd even pay a little bit more desipite their spending less without packaging, distribution, disc production, etc.

EDIT: Oh, and is it on my radar? It is now, thanks.

I'll have to check out the youtube vids when i get home (no can do at work). I saw this game on the Ninty Channel's upcoming releases recently, but had seen no other substantive info on it anywhere. Obviously the Activision 2600 games on the cover drew my attention; curious as to the rest of the package. If it's retailed at $20 USD, i'll surely buy it, no question.

Kaboom! was one of my favorite 2600 games. Just hope it doesn't wear out my Wii remote the way it wore out paddle after paddle in the old days.

I'll be looking for this in the shops this week-end; if I succumb to impulse I'll buy it and review it for you guys. Hopefully it's a sign that some kind of Activision Anthology could be on the horizon for Wii which would be simply marvellous!

I liked the idea of this but I haven't heard anything really positive about this. Should have included more classic arcade games to balance out the "carnival" style games.

However, I love atlantis and even a minor graphical update to that would be fun to play.
