I really enjoy 8-Player console games...well actually, I just have large groups I play with, so 8-player games are always appreciated.
I wondered if there might be any that I'm missing that I ought to check out.
My 'hit' list:
Jungle Speed
Bomberman Blast
Big Brain Academy Wii

Ok, but not great:
Driift Mania
Family Fun Golf

Are there more games that anyone knows of that play 8 people on the Wii? Recommendations?
(I am looking to check out Gravitronix on Monday)
I put this in WiiWare b/c there tends to be more innovation for 8 players in WiiWare than on disc.

How about Wario Ware Smooth Moves? You can play with up to 12 players, passing the remote around to play microgames.

does Brawl count, with it's tournament mode able to handle an ungodly amount of players?

Darn. Jungle Speed would've been one of my number one choices.
Plattchen?
I think F&F Party features 8-person play?
Bust-a-Move Bash features 8-person play as well.

If you're including Gamecube titles (and have 4 GC controllers), Mario Party 7 has a couple of full 8-player modes that are a lot of fun, so long as you like Mario Party games in general .

Yeah, I was gonna mention that as well.

But Melee supported 64!

@BP: very true, but he did ask about Wii games. i was just thinking perhaps he didn't own a GC controller or memory card. and Melee can be hard to track down these days. several of my local gamestops have stopped carrying gamecube games.

Driift just came out, and it has good reviews.

I was commenting on him thinking 32 players is ungodly.

Watch out for Gravitronix on WiiWare this coming Monday, it's got 8 player action!

@pixel: He seems to have Driift already and thinks it's just "okay".

Thanks for the thoughts.
I actually remember Bust-a-move Bash. It holds the record for shortest rental at my house, I was astonished at how bad it was if it's the retail disc that came out the first year of the Wii. I used to think I liked Bust-a-Move, but that game challenged my belief.

No problem.
Have you given Bust-a-Move WiiWare a try? And yeah, I heard Bash was bad but I didn't know how bad.

I've recommended this wiiware before, just cuz it's my favorite... It's a beanbag toss, the play action is similar to Wii Sports Bowling minus the miis.

Target Toss Pro Bags, has an 8-player tournament mode.

3-player mode is probably the best, because it goes in a rotation, so with 3 it goes fast, naturally with 8 it takes longer. They set up 8-player in a way that you get to face-off a whole inning each time you go (several tosses), so you have enough time to get used to it.

You know I've actually pondered Target Toss Pro Bags before, but never seen a personal recommendation for it. That's an Incredible Technologies game isn't it? (Golden Tee guys) I appreciate you taking the time to write your thoughts, I think I'll give it a go.
Also wanted to mention that my opinion of Driift Mania is improving with play. The problem with the game is that is NOT pick-up and play. Which seems criminal for a 8-player game. If you play with someone who hasn't played before you'll beat the snot out of them. For 30 minutes to an hour. After that period of time, once they've got the feel of the controls down, it's a blast. Steep learning curve though is why I didn't put it as 'great.' Also, the additional multiplayer modes like Hot Potato, are really a lot of fun, more fun than just racing. I'd definitely recommend the game to groups that get together to play somewhat often, but not for the non-gamer, the controls are just too tough to immediately pick up.

Oh...and I haven't tried Puzzle Bobble Plus (the wiiware bust-a-move). It was only 2 player simultaneous, and I just don't know what they could add that would make me play the game again (as much as I enjoy it). Scrubbles was a very good new version of that type of game if you can find it on PC (think it was later renamed Bubble Town?)

Yes, Target Toss Pro Bags, is made by the Golden Tee people (a golf arcade game in bars and restaurants, with the rolly motion wheel to control). I think Target Toss may exist as an arcade type machine as well, probably with a roller control. They really nailed the translation to Wiimote motion control. It really feels like you have a beanbag in your hand, the way you lift your arm and release the buttons. It's very much a "toss" feeling.

Another advantage, it has 2 control choices, each player can choose Normal or Sensitive. If "Normal" then you need to stand up and toss your beanbag, like in real life, or like Wii Sports Bowling. But if you choose "Sensitive" controls, then it requires less motion. With Sensitive, you can play it sitting on the couch. I find that groups of friends, some people prefer to just stay sitting. The gameplay can get equally competitive and serious in either control mode, or mixed control among your group of players.

Also, new people tend to pick it up fairly easily. Easy to learn, more difficult to master it.

After reading this, I certainly HOPE Gravitronix goes over well with your group because it sounds like exactly what you'd be looking for: 8 player simultaneous with pick-up-and-play for newer players and a lot of hidden depth to discover over time.

I bought Bust-a-Move Bash for the Wii for it's promise of 8 players and was disappointed when one of my friends figured out that you could win the versus mode by just mashing the shoot button as fast as possible.

Thanks for the additional thoughts.
This will definitely be the next game I check out for the group once we get past the current Driift Mania love.
