@uptownsoul: I'm not going to have two TV's in the same room though. I like being able to play something on the GamePad while my wife can watch whatever yet we are still in the same room and can talk.

@uptownsoul: I don't watch much TV so my wife gets first pick of the TV, "happy wife, happy life." Oh, and my wife likes football

Let's just say it does have next-gen specs. Aside from Nintendo, Platinum and Sega, who's gonna make exclusives for the console? Publishers are more than likely gonna play it safe and release mostly multiplatform titles.

lesser known developers and games that Nintendo could make into a big deal, DQ9 style. That seems to be Nintendo's current plan.

Smaller Developers and guys who collaborate like Sega. I will say in the postion the console its in currently Nintendo isn't making it mandatory that stuff like the Yakuza HD remake and DQ10 be ported.

My personal thoughts are that the Wii U will pick up a bit this holiday but won't hit its selling stride until Mario Kart 8. The Wii U will be my second console to back up the Xbox One and mostly a Mario Kart/Zelda/X box. Hoping next month and as we get closer to next year we see more diversity from Nintendo. Mostly want a new Punch-out.

@Sony_70 Are you getting Xbox One day one? Or at least getting it while it is at $499!? That's nuts!
I want a secondary console to back up my Wii U as well, but the other consoles are too spendy, especially the Xbox One.

Probably at launch and if not soon after early next year. The Xbox One appeals t me more than the WIi U and has much more to offer on its outset imo. $500 isn't alot for something I'll be using for the next 8-10 years.

I'll probably pick up a Wii U when X comes out.

I'd recommend waiting unless Microsoft offers bundles. Wouldn't want another 3DS, Vita or Wii U situation.

Anywho, I don't understand the need for all those big AAA titles. The crowd that would buy them would have already owned an Xbox One and/or PS4 already, so it seems pointless.

a good secondary console would be a PS3 because of the gamut of games and diminished price. I don't know how many non hardcore gamers are going to shell out money for these expensive consoles, especially with a tough economy and the fact that there is a huge library of games with the previous gen.

They don't seem to be that more expensive than the Wii U, from what I can tell. The PS4 is basically $50 more than the Wii U. Seeing how it also doubles as a multimedia device, that seems to be a much better deal than the Wii U, if you just look at features.

For what it's worth, $499 for a luxury good that lasts 8 years is pretty great, considering how (really great) phones tend to last two years and cost not much less if you want decent space. And that's without the insanely pricey data plans.

@Cyberbotv2 I don't know if a tough economy will really factor into it. Video games remained steady during the crash; heck, the industry has gotten bigger since then. When it comes to entertainment, video games are relatively cheap when compared to the likes of movies (4 tickets for the family plus food) or especially the bigger ones, like vacations. $399 really isn't much when you consider that it's about the same price as a really fancy meal (for the family).

From what I can tell, even the Xbox One with its $499 price tag has a big chance at success with the middle class, as that isn't really that much money when it can constitute an entire Christmas for some households. As for the working class, well, outside of college kids, I doubt that's really the demographic that buys video game systems at launch.

As for the PS3 being a good secondary console, it depends on the games you want. There will still probably be lots of games coming to it for years from Japan, if the PS2 is any indication, but if you want games that are more western, you'll probably want a PS4 or One. And hey, there's tons of games that are high quality and really cheap. You can't really go wrong if you don't already have an extensive collection of PS3 games.

Better games will come out and it will sell better. It won't be the number one console this gen, but it will still be profitable. That's what will happen to it.

But Unlike those systems Microsoft already has a decent line up to the end of next year. But I'm going in understanding that I may get burned. I'm also starting to learn code with Windows 8/Phone and the xbox one can run apps so it'll be nice for that as well.

To anyone else though I'd say go PS3/360.

Let me make a definitive statement on the Wii U:

Best case scenario: 2nd place
Worst case scenario: 2nd place

that's not a typo

I don't know, I think Microsoft is starting to win back their goodwill a little bit. I know Nintendo can get their act together and make people want to buy the system, the question is will they?

too little, too late, competing with 3D Mario + Wii U's 1 year advantage and PS4's impossible amount of goodwill and its own price tag. There is not the slightest hint of doubt in my mind what will happen.

The Wii U will be first place, because it doesn't have numbers in its name.
Depending on how you look at it, One and 4 can either be a better or worse value which is yet to be determined.

I can assign any value to the letter U

All joking aside, I think the Wii U will be fine. I have a generally good outlook for the Wii U and Xbox One. PS4 HAS to do well, otherwise Sony will sell more buildings and go back to Walkman as their main device as it once was.

Nintendo's consoles are always approx. 5 year machines. The wii was, I believe, 6 years technically, but it's well known that Nintendo was barely supporting the system in that last year, probably devoting most of their time to the Wii U. Unless you just started gaming this gen, you are totally used to a 5 year lifecycle. To be honest, I prefer it. There is notbing more exciting than the thought of a new console looming on the horizon and wondering what possibilities it'll contain, what worlds it'l open up.

Admittedly, this generation of Wii U, PS4 & Xbone didn't quit have that same mystique, and weren't as revolutionary when compared to the previous gen, but this is literally the first time that has ever happened.

The NES generation took us from primarily single screen games to multi screen, detailed ones.
The SNES / Genesis generation took those multi screen worlds and fully realized them, filling them with content and made them feel alive.
The n64 / playstation generation brought us into 3d, and was atleast for me, the single biggest and most exciting jump we've ever had (possibly only rivaled by the day virtual reality comes)
And from there, each system built on that to take us from the akward /blockiness of those worlds to gorgeous, bigger full worlds that felt more like our own.

While it has gotten a little stale this gen, we can only hope new breakthroughs are made, and we dont have to wait a full decade between experiencing these exciting changes.

It'll succeed eventually, at least in that it'll sell a good few million units (around the 50 million or so mark I guess). Probably won't do as well as the Wii though, since the gaming world has changed so much that I doubt ANY new console will match its predecessor sales wise. In fact, I suspect we'll see quite a shock when it comes to the Xbox One and PS4, and gamers absolutely in shell shock about how they're not exactly flying off shelves.

That's my guess anyway. That the Wii U will sell decently, the Xbox One and PS4 will sell decently, but none of them will do anywhere near as well as their predecessors.
