@moomoo: I've been looking back at the Zelda Wii U demo from E3 2011 lately, and it does seem to give the Wii U that illusion of power and graphics - it's definitely not a pre-rendered cutscene, judging as to how the lighting, camera movement and angles were interactive.
To be honest, I don't really believe the GamePad is meant to be considered highly innovative at all, let alone an actual tablet, as powerful as I see it (which isn't powerful outside of what I see it providing for Wii U gaming) - going back, it's really just a game controller, first and foremost, with an embedded touch-screen at most and wireless capabilties accompanied by some good hijinks. I think the real truth here is it's impressive that Nintendo were the first ones to think of incorporating it into mainstream gaming. In no way can it ever be considered to measure up to anything the iPad may offer in power with this AirPlay business - the iPad is a stand-alone multifunction tablet, first and foremost, with its gaming capabilities in conjunction with whatever limited selection iOS offers as a.... back-drop, shall I say?
Really, I find this comparison to be rather out of each others' leagues in respective ways to both products.
You have got to expect this from the same 5 users that occupy the 'Other Gaming Forum' you know they play around with 'i' devices, I could imagine how boring that must be

I would bet you $200 that you have not played a game over AirPlay.
I honestly think that's where my biggest problem with the Wwii U comes from. It doesn't look like anything that can't be done on the other systems and the bulk of its games so far look like either wii ports or are 360/PS4 ports. Even stuff like the madden/fifa touchscree. Features will be able to be done with smartglass as well the Wii U version is already the red headed step child and not seen as truly next gen.
Lack of Blu-ray I'm dissapointed in as I'm finally in the market for it to pick up a few collections. I understand Nintendo doesn't like to pay royalties but that's just another feature that the others have.
But my biggest concern is Wii U wont be as powerful as the other next gen systems and get left again as more devs mo e toward unreal 4 development.

Those are launch titles. Which recent launch line-up in history have you ever witnessed that wasn't composed of a few or more ports? Anyhow, it's a good selection of ports, plus we haven't really had any recent games come out worth porting.
As for this Blu-Ray issue, pray tell where you heard that it's not coming to the console? I know it's not very likely, but still, until we've heard officially that it is not going to be included, I doubt that we should be jumping to any conclusions, especially seeing that we don't have any in-depth console specs or news on the features of the Wii U and its OS/apps.
And yes, that's everybody's biggest concern, but again, no console specs, so deal. It's unnecessary speculation based on the Wii's past mistakes, and it's rather negative. Miiverse is seeming to take a very broad step in upgrading a very broad aspect of gaming this current generation as well as one of the Wii's major flaws, so why doubt that the rest of the Wii U won't?

I do so love ignorant opinions
I love it when people accuse other people of not playing a game or a system if that person says they don't like it

The problem isn't that the games are ports but late ports. Most of those games I already own or have played. With the other console launches getting ports they were usually ports of games that were coming out around that same time. I wouldn't mind if these were more ports like darksiders or Assissans creed. If say we were getting borderlands 2 or Resident Evil 6 at launch I'd be cool. But I see no pull in buying batman armored edition or gimped mass effect.

I don't see the problem. I doubt too many consumers are planning on dropping a bunch of money on accessories to try and build their current gen systems into an under powered Wii U equivalent.
That only matters to a niche market of videophiles. Blu-ray isn't going to be a deciding factor in the upcoming generation of video games. Wii U has nothing to worry about there.
Well smartglass can be used on any Windows 8, ipad, Android tablets and phones desktops and ultrabooks. The market for smartglass is higher than Wii U due to the amount of phones, tablets, and computers out there.
On blu-ray I'll admit its mostly personal and I realize that streaming is going to be the forefront going forward.

Ah, I see about the Blu-Ray, thanks for the link. Still Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and Amazon is a great addition - streaming is becoming a big inclusion into gaming.
As for the ports, that's exactly what I meant. I agree it'd be a lot better if we had a few more recent ports that would be coming out around the same time as on other consoles, but the main thing is, I'm just glad we have a good selection - I mean, the Wii U probably has been in development for some time. But don't forget, we have Darksiders II and Assassin's Creed III in the lineup too; those are well-timed. As a bit of time goes on though, it's no doubt the Wii U will become more current.
As for SmartGlass, I don't know about that. It sounds a neat concept, but it's no real Wii U equivalent, in my opinion. I have an Android phone myself, and I doubt I'd actually be interested in something like that enough to buy whatever it is I need to buy for it. Most markets with phones, tablets and computers (who don't just buy it for the sake of buying it) are really using it for work/education or just day-to-day purposes, and I doubt too many people would be interested in making the jump to gaming with it. Maybe it's just my perspective.
Well Smartglass can be used for a variety of non gaming functions as well and I can see that day to day use being popular.
Not only that but the support for smartglass seems pretty good so far and Microsoft is going to force intergration for better or worse like they did with kinect. So far we have
All EA sports 2014 games
All Microsoft Studios Games
Dance Central 3
Halo 4
Ascend New gods
Watchdogs
Untitled karoake game
Homerun Stars

The state of the economy may be a strong issue of concern for every company but in bad times people are always willing to spend a little extra on entertainment and alcohol. So, I think it makes sense for all the console manufacturers to continue on with their plans. If theres money to be made out there someone will step up and go for it. The gaming industry follows the rule, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony are all out to make a buck and they know they can. Thats why they do it.

It's single touch, which has been around for decades. So yeah, not that impressive.
I don't remember anything having a touch screen when I was a kid. And I definitely don't remember having a controller with a touch screen on it. Young people are so jaded these days...

The only company in it for the sole purpose of money is microsoft

The first touch screen was invented in 1965. The first home computer with a touch screen was 1983.
You must be really old if this technology didn't exist when you were a child.

lol. I'm sure Miyamoto's wife and children would love to know he never really cared about feeding them or having a house.
Yeah. Microsoft's in it for the money, sony's in it for the spite and nintendo's in it for the love.
I take that previous comment back. There's no way you can possibly be old enough not to still be a child.
