I had a brief scare regarding my preorder earlier from Best Buy. I received an email titled "Important update regarding your order". I was afraid that it had been canceled, but thankfully it was just an official announcement of the release date.
Now for said release date to actually get here so I can enjoy it in all its HD goodness.
Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet - The Indigo Disk, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)
I have to admit, the amount of detail in the environments is awesome. It's really impressive looking.
I can't believe people think this is okay. Now I'm no graphics elitist, I don't care really what graphics look like, but I think this remake is very lazy. Yes, put it on a true HDTV, so you can see the jagged edges clearly now, and oh! Whats that? Look at how beautiful the (lack of) lighting effects look in HD! The amount of detail in the environments? What are you smoking?
All they did was retexture it, and a simple change like that is okay in games like WW, but TP's artstyle needs so much more than new textures to look better, and the game should not have been remade until the developers were prepared to do that.
I'm going to get this but it looks marginally better than the Wii version at best. It looks like all Nintendo did was run it through a bad emulator and added that new challenge dungeon. I haven't play this in 9 years so that's the main reason I want it. They seemed to do a much better job on Wind Waker and it really didn't need it. I'm not saying they should've went full in Final Fantasy 7 here but they could've done much better.

I agree with you both (they could have done so much better), but it's probably a business tactic: Nintendo want everyone to get excited for the new Zelda. Imagine if they upgraded TP to look like the Zelda tech demo from a few years back - you think folk would be so eager for Zelda U then? Nah, TP:HD is to whet the appetite... and help fill Ninty's war chest, of course. They may be lazy, but certainly not dumb.
I know I brought this here before but I feel the need to bring it again. This fixes all the problems TP's artstyle had. The deeper colors make the world vibrant and actually interesting, and the lighting makes the world feel organic and alive, as opposed to the dead dying ugly mess that was TP's artstyle. This would not have taken that much work, it was made by a fan for goodness sake, and the WiiU would most probably be able to run it.
It's still the ugliest Zelda game ever, but the textures have been hugely improved. I think anybody who says they look the same is more salty about the price tag than anything.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.
@rishisquid: I really wish they had done a proper remaster, updating all the 3D models and gave it a more modern use lighting. It would've taken them longer than what they've spent on this for sure, and Tantalus probably wasn't the right developer to do that, but it would look so much better if they did put more work into this game.
Wow that user made version looks better than the Nintendo Rather annoying.
I guess the one benefit of the way they're doing this is that there'll be no room to argue about which version is superior, as there sort of was with the Wind Waker.
With Twilight Princess, at least we'll be able to just say this is the objectively superior version, to the extent that that means anything.

All Tantalus did was up the resolution. That's all the "remastering" they did, which is disappointing. I was expecting it to look something like the above video.
@rishisquid: I assume it's to do with the way it was recorded that the lighting was a mess and it was blurry a lot of the time? Looks like a good fan made project though, I'll give it that. Like the Unreal Engine ones for OOT, brilliant for one person but not what I'd like to see in the real game.
At least we can all agree that it's about an equal split among us users that Think it looks great or thinks they should've done much more.
We all thought that this Zelda more then any needed the HD make over because of the more realistic tone it takes. I just personally thought they could've did much more but I guess that would've taken most likely another year to develope. That's too much time on simply another remake.
@Monkey_Balls You make a good point but in the end I think it would just increase the interest for Zelda U. After all Zelda U had a different art style to TP. I'm still amazed by what little we've seen of that art direction they choose.
