@TwilightAngel: I'd say it was more like a gentleman's (dis)agreement than handbags but whatever I guess. I was only doing what I would've thought anyone would so which is sticking up for their opinion whilst still trying to have a laugh.

Ah yes, -whingers-, how annoying. I wish NoA had a store like NoE does

@Operative My comment wasn't aimed at anybody in particular - rather a tongue-in-cheek observation considering the timing of Nintendo's store and the arguments here.

I do understand the paywall complaints but consider this: Let's say there is an extra dungeon... What part of "extra" are people failing to understand? Extra content requires extra payment - the same as with anything in life. And if that extra content comes via amiibo, how is that different to special/limited editions of other games?

As an aside, nobody even knows what the extra content is yet, or if indeed there is any at all, so the arguments are a bit daft really. Also, forget the amiibo; I want that t-shirt!

I think you meant Nintendo UK. I don't believe they ship to any other country in Europe, it's a shame, because they've got some neat stuff.

But you can't. Making you pay for a video game is just the definition of a market economy. Nintendo or some other publisher makes a product that provides enjoyment by its nature, and you need to give them something in exchange for it. They aren't withholding value, they are creating value and asking for something in exchange for it.

With Amiibo-locked content, it's different. They are creating value with the game, but cutting a piece off and not offering it unless you buy a figure you may or may not want. Even if you own the figure already, Nintendo isn't giving you additional value by locking content to the Amiibo, they are just giving you exclusive privilege to value that should have been offered to everyone.

It's basically a slightly less terrible On-Disc DLC.

You're claiming to know the economics of a game's development with this comment. None of us know that. We don't know whether that content would have been in the game anyway but they just decided to separate it. Or if they truly added something onto the final product that otherwise wouldn't have been there. I'm against that kind of DLC for that reason, it takes advantage of the opaque economics behind it and the audience's inevitable ignorance. But we don't know for sure in the way you're trying to suggest.

@TheLastLugia

You are right, I don't know the economics of the game's development. But I have the same stance here as I do with On-Disc DLC and Day-1 DLC. The game released should be a full game. Only after the game is finished and slated for release am I okay with extra content being developed.

I wouldn't mind nearly as much if Nintendo released this Amiibo-locked content a month or two after TPHD launched. I would still be a little bit peeved at having to buy a piece of plastic I don't want, but I understand that the figure is basically a substitute for a direct cash transaction.

I am paying extra. I'm paying 50 dollars extra for an improved version of a game I bought in 2006. There are loads of game remakes and remasters that offer additional dungeons like that. Hell, the Zelda series has done it with Links Awakening's Color Dungeon on the GBA.

@iKhan: well there you go you just spelled it out yourself, if you don't think it's worth your $50 then maybe don't buy the game. There's some good stuff out there you could get for that much, some books, a ticket to a football match and may I recommend these great figures I've been collecting called amiibo, they're only $15 and make Nintendo games even better. Shocking but true.

It would be worth my 50 dollars if there was an extra dungeon though. So I'm still pretty pissed.

Does gamestop just survive off making dodgy exclusivity deals with 90% of developers? Seems like.

Sure does and you could kind of think the same of the UK equivalent, GAME. Fortunately for the most part, GAME's exclusivity deals are on the Xbox/PS side of things as you can almost certainly get the Nintendo stuff at the Nintendo UK Online Store.

Gamestop isn't calling it a soundtrack, but rather a 'Sound Selection CD.'

The hell?

GAME's noway near as bad. They've never got entire exclusivity control of a game like Gamestop did with Xenoblade Chronicles.
They just get things like special DLCs. Nothing that affects much really. I'm in the UK and I always use either graingergames or thegamecollection.

A 3 hour orchestral rendition of swords, arrows, and spinners clinking against metal surfaces called "the rhythms of a life as a game audio designer."
