So, in relation to the next 3d Mario, assuming one comes on WIi U, I've been wondering how long they might have been working on It, if at all.
From what I understand, teams at Nintendo largely stay attached to one franchise and are always working towards the next one, if it's a large franchise. For example, Aonuma's Zelda team, from what I understand, is constantly working on the next Zelda installment, to the point where he's often saying he's sick of Zelda and wants to start new franchises (but then ideas for those just end up in Zelda, lol)
The Zelda team seems to be pretty big, what with Windwaker HD, Link Between Worlds, Zelda U and Majora's Mask 3d all having been worked on at the same time. These obviously weren't complete teams on every project, as we know Majora's Mask (a game that took about a year and a half) has been in development for twice as long on this port (remake? version? Whatever...) So, we can assume it was an incomplete team for most of it's lifespan as other members of the team bounced around on the other Zelda projects.
Mario's an even bigger franchise, so I'm wondering if the team(s) do(es) the same thing. I believe the SM3DW guys are the ones who just put out Captain Toad, but was it the whole team? If so, then maybe the next 3d Mario is now just entering the conception stage. But if some of the 3d World guys went off and started working on it as the other part of the team went to work on Captain Toad (a year or more ago, I think?) then maybe we'll be seeing something at this next E3?
After all, Mario games can't take as long as Zelda games to develop, even the 3d ones I wouldn't think, so maybe it's pretty far along and possible for a 2016 release?
I personally don't want to see another Wii U Mario platformer until it has a new core gameplay mechanic. Because they decided to release what should've been like a decade's worth of retro Mario platformers in the span of 2 years. if that's not until 2017, so be it.
But yeah, it's likely gonna be 2016 if I had to guess.
first of all...Are we sure that the new mario game is on development? Source? Is it reliable?
Btw, i hope that the new mario come so soon...i think and i hope 2016
Stop to hang up on STUPID LITTLE THINGS! Play Wii U! ;-)
ANASTACIA: THE NEW ALBUM "EVOLUTION" INCLUDING THE NEW SINGLE "CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE" OUT NOW! ;)

The Mario team should work on a mario64/Banjo style platformer with these guys.

pfft, next you guys will say Nintendo should make a full game out of the Captain Toad levels in 3D World. :V

He doesn't need a source. There are three game franchises no one ever has to question whether or not Nintendo is working on and those are Pokemon, Zelda, and Mario.

Furthermore, during the last year, the Tokyo EAD has been expanded by much more people. It's speculated that Captain Toad and Ultimate NES Remix was now made by a new Tokyo EAD 3, while the Tokyo EAD 2 is on a future 3D Mario game. https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/wii-u/updated_ead_rumor_su...

I hope it's true...because I would not accept that the wii u console has not its own brand new innovative mario 3d game!

Multiple Mario teams, I only know of two...one that works on the 2D Mario games...and the one that works on the 3D ones. (I think there's another team that does spinoffs like Mario Kart and all that)

@NinjaWaddleDee Just look at how much time they take to make one single Smash character (Mewtwo). Its unlikely, but if they are working on it, it might take quite some time to finish.
Simply because 3D leveldesign is a lot harder than 2D level design, which is also pretty tricky to begin with.
Then again, 3D World was a gigantic game in and of itself. I dont think it "needs" additional content though i sure would like some too
What i would like to know is: How much pressure will Mario Maker put on the Mario dev team for the next 2D Mario game ? I mean by releasing this game with the ability to share Stages, you basically created an infinite Mario Platformer incorporating many different playstyles. (with the possibility to add a few with post release DLC). How do they plan on getting out of that "i dont need to buy this game, i wait till people recreate it in Mario Maker" loophole ?
I guess a single new powerup or a gimmick or two wont be enough this time around. Well, they might even consider it a challenge to themself, to finally bring 2D Mario a step further after dragging out the NEW label a bit to long.

I think I'm even more excited for a potential 2D Mario game, than Mario Maker itself, because they know it's going to be a challange. Still, I highly doubt you are able to recreate most of the stages from the latter 2D games, as each level usually revolves around or contains a gimmick that isn't present in Mario Maker. Remember those large spinning land masses?
It's something from the first level, but I doubt they'll include a feature that allows you to make those things for example. There's also multiplayer and boss battles and such that I doubt will make its way into Mario Maker.
Although some people, me included, have loved the 2d Mario games in recent years not everyone has been happy with them. I can see Mario Maker being a medium term solution to this basically here you go guys make it how you want have fun share and make your own while we focus on the 3d Mario. Its quite a clever idea on there part I think it takes the demand off them to provide the 2d games it provides possibly years of content without requiring a development team to keep updating new levels and also appeal to people like me who have always wanted something like this since games like Little Big Planet became so popular.

You know what? I hope they DON'T make another 2D Mario game. Unless it has some crazy artistic new art style, or a TON of new playable characters, with a bunch of new character-related abilities, I hope they don't make one. They should let the New SMB series die in an unholy grave. It was fun for the first two games, but now it needs to stop, and I hope Mario Maker is the death of it. The multiplayer in the New series is god awful, and everything looks terrible. I hope it dies a horrible horrible death, and have the Mario Maker series take over for it, with sequels or expansions that let us create our own levels, instead of having to pay another 60 bucks for yet another un-inspired romp through the crappy "plastic" mushroom kingdom.
