Do you think Super Mario RPG will come to Wii U VC? That's really the only Nintendo published SNES VC game I'm waiting for unless they bring new VC games that weren't released on Wii VC for SNES like Star Fox or Yoshi's Safari. I'm hoping this will come to Wii U VC before the end of this year.
Don't know. Parts of the game are owned by Square Enix, who have been neglectful as hell on the classic games front lately. They haven't released anything on Wii U or 3DS VC, no PS2 Classics on PSN, and the last PS1 Classic they released was Final Fantasy Origins over 3 years ago.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.
The two Star Tropics titles are also oddly absent. Hope all three make the leap one of these days, so I can upgrade my last few 1st party NES and SNES downloads (Except for SimCity, I have a feeling that one won't be coming back).
I imagine that we will see this. Both Square and Nintendo like money. If neither can make a go of this alone, it's not in their best interest to not cooperate.
That Japan just got it, essentially confirms that it's on the way. There's absolutely no reason to think that Nintendo and Square have again cooperated, just to get it out in Japan and no where else.
So I understand this will most likely not be coming to Wii U VC outside of Japan due to it being co developed by Square Enix?
It's not strictly because they developed the title, but because they actually hold some ownership of some aspect of it. There are plenty of Nintendo published titles that had their development contracted out, that Nintendo fully owns the rights to. But as seen in the introduction sequence and edit credits, dual copyright ownership is actually present here.

Don't get your hopes up.
They've had Final Fantasy IV & VI for 2 years on the Japanese Wii U VC and we haven't seen it in the west.
And those are purely Square owned and controlled properties.
I feel that it's very much a mistake to extrapolate from that, that this Nintendo/Square collaboration is very unlikely to be rereleased in the West after just being released in Japan.
Maybe if six months have gone by with no sign like an ESRB change to reflect a Wii U version, but as of now, I don't see how anyone can take this as anything but a positive sign that we can likely expect Super Mario RPG to join the Wii U's Virtual Console in the coming months.
Afterwards, I hope they bring out the Star Tropics series and SimCity for the SuperNes (Longshot for the latter, but they struck a deal once and could again). Then, I believe that my entire NES and SuperNes library from the Wii will have been upgraded.
Except Square were rather late to the VC party last time releasing their Final Fantasy games late into the Wii VC library outside of Japan, so kind of hoping it's the same case here. Heck, now that GBA, DS and Wii are part of the Wii U VC, that's plenty more titles they can bring out.
I hope it gets released eventually and I think it will. It's my favorite Mario RPG game. I downloaded Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga and I don't think it's anywhere near as good.

I can totally tell it's the writing that makes me hate the Mario & Luigi series. It's way too campy and over the top. It always feels like a comedy first and a mario game second. I've yet to finish any of their games and I've had them for years.
this game would've made a great 3d classic for 3ds though. i'm sure it will arrive for wii u eventually, but after how long it took to come to the wii, who knows. we might not even see it till the nx. a true sequel would be so nice to have though thats for sure.

I agree, and I don't think the characters and locations are anywhere near as compelling and interesting as Super Mario RPG. The bean village and bean prince, etc just weren't as likable as Mallow, Geno, etc and I loved the bosses in Super Mario RPG. It was still over the top and comedic but it just drew me in much more. It was also the game that got me interested in RPGs. I also don't like the fighting mechanics in Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga as much. I never tried the original Paper Mario for the N64 but I hear it's one of the best. I owned Paper Mario Sticker Star for the 3DS and grew bored of it within an hour and ended up selling it back to Gamestop.
