Can you verify this with a source? Having no local multiplayer would be an extremely weird choice for a console that thrives on local multiplayer.
What, other than the fact that on the showroom floor they have matches running on eight separate Wii Us over LAN?
In all fairness that could be just for showing off the game. When something this big is being shown off you want to give press the best experience, and having their own screen without having to share with a random person would show it off better
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Apparently this game has motion controls. You can turn them off though, I was watching gameplay gamexplain uploaded and there's a button on the gamepad screen that brings up a screen saying motion controls are on. The "on" part was in bright orange box different to the rest of the words so it's safe to assume you can turn them off.
I just hope the game has longer matches and voice chat for release. Five minutes is too short.
EDIT: Also, a metagame, whether it be the classic unlocking of perks or something different
I'm actually more excited for a few other games (Smash Bros., Bayonetta 2--WITH Bayonetta 1!--and Xenoblade Chronicles X drooooool). But Splatoon was definitely the biggest and most pleasant surprise for me. The game came out of nowhere and looks really fun, especially if this is just the Beta/early version because it has tons of potential to get even better.

Which is fair enough and you could be right. However they haven't mentioned local multiplayer at all and none of the promotional material shows split screen multiplayer. Also Nintendo's official E3 page for this game only says:
This is a colorful and chaotic online third-person action shooter [...]
Select between multiple control options on the Wii U GamePad controller, including using gyroscopic controls to look around, allowing for better aiming and control.
Hop online and battle in four-on-four matches.
So I'd say it's just one player per system until confirmed otherwise

I don't like multiplayer much or shooters. So how the heck does this game looks so much fun and appealing to me? D-:
It must be the squid girls. Those adorable territorial squid girls that are already filling up deviantart in just a couple days time. This game seems like it's gonna hit hard.

I'm the same way; I can't stand Call of Duty or any of the other bajillion games like it, and Goldeneye 007 has been the only exception. But this just looks like lots of fun. Adorable squids probably help, too.
IGN did good gaming journalism and towards Nintendo. Nintendo is pulling miracles out of their a**es this E3.
That video just addressed/got rid of every worry I still had. I'm disappointed to hear it's a full retail title, I REALLY think this should be a $25 download, but after that video I'm confident there will be enough content for retail. Maybe even have a lower price of $50 instead of $60. I'm definitely picking this up.
They also mentioned local 1 v 1 matches instead of teams so that's awesome. I'm loving this game so much.
