Absolutely. As already suggested, start with the single player mode to get good training. After that, online will be no big deal. Also, when you start online you'll generally be matched in to easier matches with mostly low-level players. And don't forget to visit the shops and Judd (the cat).
That's not true for turf wars. I've seen level ones pop up in my matches and we are all above 10 with most above 15.
I wrote: "you'll generally be matched in to easier matches with mostly low-level players" (sorry for my bad grammar)
There is matchmaking even in Turf War. That doesn't mean that there aren't occasional mismatches (similar to a 75,000VR appearing in a MK8 race where everyone else are around 6,000VR) to fill a group, or that the level number is the only parameter for matching players. IMO, the vibe is a better parameter to match players current skills than the level. The level only tells how much the player has played. That said, I only played with players with level 5 or higher during the whole weekend (I'm level 20).
Even Ranked Battles (which has much stricter matchmaking) has occasional mismatches, such as an A+ player in the same group as B- players. But if the goal is to fill groups as quickly as possible, mismatches like that will sometimes happen.
I've read that the matchmaking in ranked battles doesn't change over the course of being logged in, so theoretically a player could start at C- and reach level A+ and still belaying w/ all C players. Might take a few days, and it's the exception to the rule, but that's why higher ranks occasionally wind up playing w/ lower levels. And I'm ok w/ that, they have more important things to work on.
They should match up - ie pair off - the levels in turf war. I've been an advocate since the beginning that "level' is more a measure of time spent playing than ability, but since it's the most obvious indicator of who's playing they should use it. I actually feel bad playing at level 16 if I'm on a team w/ a 19 and 20 and the other team is made up of 12, 13, 14 and 15 and we crush them. There's no sport in that. I've also been on a team when I was 15 and the rest of the team was 12 ad 13 playing against a 19 and 20, and we still won b/c my aerospray is OP. But I'd rather the 20 and 19 were on different teams. If there are 4 20s and a bunch of lower teens, just put 2 20s on each team. It's not the most accurate, but it's all we can see.
Do you guys like stacking subabilities? I have a jacket with 3 Defense-Ups and I know that each subsequent ability provides less of a percentage boost, so I'm on the fence on whether I should keep it or reroll.
So this happen to me twice now i order clothing from spyke but i forgot i already own that piece. the odd thing is you can still buy it, iIts basically the same as a reroll but not as expensive.

Seems like defense only matters if you have two main abilities as defense which to me is a waste. I'll most likely setup 1 ink saver, 1 refill faster, and 1 invisible launch.
Sub perks seem to do so little, i'm not really concerned with them.
When Splatoon gets a sequel, they really need to call it Splatwon. Sorry, I was just thinking about that today Or even Spla2on. Wait no, that looks weird. Meh, I'm sure they will just go with Splatoon: New Nintendo hardware name.
I'm guessing the next game will be called "Splatoon: Smash" so they can have all their licensed IP in it. Would make for some much more interesting levels, they could use some of the worlds from Ntinedo Land as models - Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin 3, Animal Crossing, even some of those hunt down Mario games were all done in open 3D worlds.
Please keep Nintendo ip's out of it.
Agreed. The reason Splatoon is so cool, is because of its cool art style and theme.
Check out my YouTube channel if you love gaming, and Nintendo (especially Metroid) I think you'll enjoy my videos. :)

Does Spyke do anything at level 10? I talked to him and he said something different about how awesome and fresh I am now, but still didn't give me any new options.

If you want some identical gear to someone you meet in the Plaza, you can order it from Spyke. Spyke doesn't have as low prices as the shops, though.

Sorry, I meant anything different than he had already been doing since level 4 since he suddenly said something new.
Also, what is with the little white counter that sometimes shows up under the main counter in ranked battles? We would sometimes take control of the zone, but then that counter would count down instead of the main one, and I don't know why.
He's just complimenting your newfound freshness, that's all! He doesn't do anything new until level 20. Also, the white counter is a penalty that appears when the "in-control" team loses control of the zones. The value is approximately how long (pointswise) they had the zones in control for.
the second time the 3 pack were restocked i almost managed to preorder them but i was too late they sold out in flipping 20 minutes XD I eventually cave and bought them from ebay much higher price than retail but it was worth it.
FINALLY set aside some time to play this game. You know, I hadn't seen any multiplayer gameplay since Splatoon's E3 debut, but I saw a little of the Backloggery Pre-Stream, which convinced me to give it a shot. I played some singleplayer (enough to beat the first boss), and while it's fun, I actually enjoyed the multiplayer more. Not because the singleplayer wasn't interesting, but because the multi was just that good. It helped that I did fairly decently (top 2 or 3 every match on the score board) and was playing with a lot of newer people who were learning the ropes alongside me. I still have a lot to learn, especially since I just played enough to hit level 4 and try out some new gear.
Basically, the singleplayer went from my focus to "the thing I'll do a little of between major multiplayer sessions".
What if Self-Destruct was a special weapon? When it is charged, you could press the R-Stick and BOOM! You're dead, but you cover a wide radius and destroy anything within that radius. Cool, right?
