This game is an obvious flop unless they add wiimote compatibility and that's a fact. It is evidenced by the lame excuses you have all tried to come up with for not being wiimote compatible. "having to go to where the gamepad is and press to superjump". Is that a joke? Why wouldn't you have the gamepad in front of you as a minimap?

The fact is there is no good excuse. Just Nintendo being Nintendo. Screwing up yet another game that could have been a 'game changer' for the system.

I love my WII U and I wouldn't buy any other console but this is what Nintendo does. It's pathetic.

Also, ALL OTHER FPS CONSOLE GAMES HAVE 'bring friend online' options.

Stop trolling, lol

They'll add that option in august 2015

@Aaron0507 Is this a joke? Because your MINOR complaints don't change the fact it wasn't going to be a game changer to begin with I love how complaints on the Wii U range from 'They don't use the gamepad enough' to 'Why don't they use a last gen controller in their games' its quite funny. The truth is that neither of those things bother the majority of people (It's not going to suddenly become make it a flop, especially when this info has been known for ages) so you'll just have to not buy the game because it most likely won't get patched in.

And Splatoon has a "join friend" online option on day 1, it's just that you can't choose to build your own teams.

If one more person calls this game a FPS I will lose my mind, FPS means First Person Shooter, this is clearly a 3rd person shooter. On top of that I hope the Wiimotes get buried deep in some stupid closet and are only brought out when the next Mario Party game comes out. The Wii U Gamepad has the motion tracking of the Wiimote built into it, and the motion tracking is on by default. So I fail to see why you need that terrible control scheme as an option. The only reason the Wii U still can use Wiimotes is because of its backwards capability and the very few games (Mario Party) that benefit from them.

I also strongly doubt you have a Wii U, you simply you do so you come off 1% less trolly

Well saying the game needs to use controllers from a different console or else it's a flop seems like a poor excuse.

Because the Gamepad doesn't float in midair, you need to set it down somewhere.

And there's no good excuse for it having to support Wii Remotes. And there's a more actual, real, problem this game has that actually makes a difference for some people. I think it's safe to say that nobody needs to play this with a Wii Remote.

Doesn't own a Wii U, and didn't play the Testfire so he is talking out his ass

Oh my fault. I thought this was the WII U. Evidently it's just the U since it's a completely unrelated console.

I don't know anyone that has to stand to point the wiimote. So why exactly would it need to float in midair? Another terrible excuse.

There is an excuse for supporting the wiimote. It's A MUCH BETTER WAY TO SHOOT. I played the second global test fire after waiting an hour and I would rather have spent time playing metroid blast. Not because splatoon is bad but METROID BLAST IS AWESOME AND INTUITIVE. Splatoon is a clunky hassle with the gamepad gyroscope. Sure, use it as an option but ADD THE BEST CONTROLS TOO.

There was a question if the amiibo-unlockable weapons are reskins or not, and it seems like the indeed are reskins.

Here's the "Splat Charger" (that was available in the Testfire as well):
Untitled

...and here's the "Hero Charger Replica" that unlocks with the amiibo girl:
Untitled

Same sub and special weapons, and same stats.

The gear (headgear/shoes/clothes) that unlocks with the amiibo have the same main abilities as some other standard gear, but the amiibo gear seem to consistently be a 2-star gear version.

ok

As I said in my first post, I made an account for the sole purpose of expressing my distaste for the lazy inexcusable lack of wiimote compatability. It doesn't matter to me if you believe I have a WII U and played the test fire.

I'm here to give my opinion because it appears that you are all such blind fan boys that you're OK with Nintendo YET AGAIN wasting an opportunity. You people seem willing to support them no matter how SUB-PAR a product they provide and they respond by being lazy and cutting corners to increase their bottom line instead of providing CONSISTENT QUALITY products.

Don't get me wrong, I am a sm4sh fanatic. Nintendo Land is absolutely brilliant. I get all giddy thinking about the new Star Fox. I ADORE Mario kart 8. Me and my GF LOVE ZombiU. (don't get me started on the bad reviews). Even wonderful101 is fun even though it's not 'my type' of game. But the BIG N has swung and missed on SO MANY EASY GRAND SLAMS. I'm so tired of being disappointed by the next Mario Party or their seemingly antisocial developer (3rd party) sentiment.

The game (and system) could be DRASTICALLY better with MINIMAL effort but instead they stick their heads in the sand. It's so sad.

I thought sub and special weapons are randomised. I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that you could get the same weapon with different sub and special weapons.

The abilities for a gear (apart from the main ability) are randomized, but the sub/special weapons aren't.

The weapon+sub+special combo is called a "set", according to the Splatoon Direct. And you choose your weapons as a set. Perhaps there are different sets with different sub/specials? I've noticed silver and gold version sets of some main standard weapons, but I haven't yet seen what sub/specials they have.

I see. I know that you buy weapons in a set, but I assumed that the sub/special weapons were randomised each time (each day or something like that). Well, we'll find out in a few days from now.

Just saw a commercial for the game. It was the Japanese one I saw earlier with English dialogue. Didn't realise that this week was when Splatoon is released! I hope my pre-order comes through...

Ooh, I'm really liking how that Splash Wall looks. I'll definitely have to mess around with it in some Turf War matches, I imagine it'll come especially in handy for Splat Charger users hiding in hallways/tight spaces.

So, now that the Testfires are done, what weapon sets do people here plan on using? I like pretty much all of them myself, so I think I'm gonna just rotate between them all. Seems like it'll be a lot more fun and interesting that way!

And they're feeding them wrong information. Splatting the walls doesn't give you any points. I'm worried about the number of people who are going to waste time painting the walls.
