It will take time for me to get used to the controls. I've never played a game which actively uses both analogue sticks, and I find it extremely awkward.
Really? It's not something that's particularly new to modern gaming...
Hope you'll get used to it easily.
Thanks! The only FPS I have ever played is Metroid Prime, and the wiimote controls feels more comfortable to me. Even though I consider myself a gamer, I haven't really played many games outside of the Nintendo core. Mostly because I never had any other consoles than Nintendo's and because I love the playful nature of their games. So I really hope I get used to the controls and learn to enjoy them, because that was the only negative part of the demo for me.

I'm very much in the same boat as you, but by the end of my second hour, I had a much better control of it than when I first began. It never really detracted from the joy I was experiencing, just how good I was at playing. Lol. I'm sure with a little more practice, especially with solo, we'll grasp it.
Nintendo Network ID: wowzatim93.
Wii U owner. Top 6 games for system: Splatoon, Mario 3D World, Captain Toad, Smash Bros, Bayonetta, and Pikmin 3.
Eagerly anticipating: Zelda U and the hopeful announcements of Animal Crossing U and Paper Mario U.
Noticing a weapon or item is far better than the rest says nothing about a persons skill to suggest so is just silly.
I think people were getting offended too easily. My view is that the roller seems OP because it's hard to kill the roller if you're not used to the controls yet (we're all new to this game). Once you get better at aiming, it's easier to kill the roller, and it doesn't seem so OP anymore.
It's not all that black/white simple, but I think that's the core argument that Philip was trying to say.
And people are getting too offended.
Indeed. The roller has strengths and weaknesses like anything else. It's not hard to identify (and exploit) those weaknesses, but you have to put forth the effort to do so. The game itself gives you all the tools you need, and you just need to familiarize yourself with those.

Yes, I agree! It didn't really detract from the joy, but I bet I would enjoy myself even more, if I felt that I knew what I was doing. Sometimes I actually managed to splat someone on purpose, but most of the times I got a kill it was pure luck. I think what I enjoyed about Splatoon was that I contributed even when missing a certain target, because it actually helps to shoot at the ground. I also found that I could help out by just going where the other team had gone and just paint over. I'm really looking forward to this game!
Does anyone know if there's going to be an option to use the R stick for aiming and remove gyroscope controls in the full release?
Btw, the online documentation for the demo is the online documentation for the full game.
It was possible to turn off Gyroscope controls in this demo by pressing the + button between matches. I only noticed this when I was playing the second session. I'm hoping the full game will have Wiimote control option
So managed to get in on the last session. I found the game fun for the last few rounds but quickly tired of it. Its just too repetitive for me, as I like more variety in multiplayer. Think I'll wait for devils third instead. Hope the rest of you enjoyed it!

It will not have Wiimote control support. Again, the control options for the full game are in the online documentation.

Maybe a potential future update, anything is possible
Yes, Roller is not OP at all. People are getting scared over nothing. Like a Goosebumps book there is no real danger.
Exactly. Here's the thing about the Splat Roller. It's intimidating up close or near, but no matter the range (unless they're right behind you), if you can keep your cool and hit every shot, you'll knock them out.
Wi-Fi Game List:

Splatoon
Super Smash Bros. Wii U & 3DS + All DLC
Mario Kart 8 + All DLC
Mario Golf: World Tour + All DLC

In the same sense I think some are overreacting to what op means, it doesn't mean unbeatable and a person saying something is op doesn't always translate to "I can't winning against or work out how to counteract this so its op" it just means that the balance is off which I feel the roller suffers from. This didn't stop me taking out roller users with the splatshot jr at all but the game clearly needs a bit of balance for base weapons pre modifications.

I think the demo isn't really a clear indication of how balanced or unbalanced the game is. When the game comes out and people can use abilities, then it's more fair to judge the game's balance. There are plenty of other weapons that haven't been tried yet pre modifications.

Enjoyed myself but communication still feels lacking.
All you would hear is screaming and cursing and someone trying to boss someone else around.
I think a lot of you must have weird accents or lack social skills/confidence because a large portion of people here seem to fear talking to other humans. It's not that scary, and it actually makes playing online games a lot more enjoyable, believe it or not.
And in Splatoon if all you could talk to was your teammates, (and Nintendo users are apparently more "sophisticated" than the "dudebros" on Xbox and PS4 according to opinions here), what would be the problem? Sounds like it would be a good community to talk to, no? This game doesn't seem to attract the testosterone fueled "blood and guts" crowd either, so I couldn't imagine there would be tons of anger and aggression (again, especially if you were talking with three other teammates)
Get out of here. I don't lack social skills and I love talking to people. I'm just saying that the chance of your actually talking strategy with strangers in s short match in Splatoon is very unlikely. What's more likely is that you will hear cursing, screaming, and someone trying to boss someone else around. With friends, it could be different. I'm not against voice chat at all.

Actually given the demo features a majority of the total types of weapons available I'd say it gives a good look at how balanced the game is without modifications, some weapons are clearly lacking a bit compared to others.
