Topic: Should I purchase the Wii U?

If you like the games available on the Wii U, buy it.

If you're someone who cares more about sales than anything, don't get it. Or if you like Uncharted, Halo, Killzone, Infamous, or other IPs that will never see the light of day on a Nintendo console.

I own a Wii U and I love it. I know what I'll be missing out on, but at the same time, I'll be able to grab the last few cross-generation titles on my Xbox 360.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I'm on YouTube.

I promise to not derail threads. Request from theblackdragon

I was at Best Buy having a blast playing the demo of SSB4 and MK8. I have a PS4 and Xbox One,hopefully I can add the Wii U, but it really depends because I read that Nintendo is planing to make a successor console since Wii U is dying in sales. I don't wanna regret getting it,so I just need to know if I should purchase it. So far I'm interested in; Baynetta 2,SSB4,MK8,soon to come Pokkén Tournament and obviously Zelda/Mario games. I looked at the list of games coming out this year for the Wii U and didn't see many titles that suprised me, is there more games to reveal?

I always say that three games I really want are enough to buy a system. But, it's up to you. If you like Mario, and Zelda, why not? The next gen console isn't coming for a while. They have consistently improved sales (which are still abysmal, I know) of hardware, and software. They have to utilitze the engines they have produced, to even make any sense at all. Starting up a new gen now would mean that it would actually cause them to start bleeding money again, on R&D.

And yeah, E3 will certainly bring out the Direct(s) that will showcase some new games. There are always games we don't know about.

Both systems are ok but not many titles that'll make me play for hours,I can see myself playing the Wii U for hours-a-day.

I'm sure for the type of gamer that likes those games, those systems are fine. And I'm sure I could find some games on those systems that I would like, but my main issue with the consoles are the business decisions they've made. Microtransactions, pay-to-play online system, things like that.

And the games that have come out on those systems ... none of them make me yearn for a PS4 or an XBO. I'm just not impressed I guess. When 360 came out and I saw Oblivion, I knew I had to have a 360, because I needed that game. So far, no game for either XBO or PS4 has made me say that.

One thing is certain: Wii U will have a full life span just like every other console before it. Roughly 10 million Wii U owners out there now with sales finally picking up- they're not gonna piss off their most loyal 10 million fans by ending the generation early. Anyone who tells you otherwise is speaking nonsense. They didn't cut the Gamecube short and they're not gonna cut the Wii U short either.

With that being said, the games are fantastic, the gamepad rocks, the controller options are versatile and the Virtual Console/BC will ensure you always have something good to play. I love it, and I own all three systems. So ya, totally go for it.

In fact I just posted a topic for a $259 3D World Wii U bundle on sale today. Perfect opportunity right there, if you're in NA...

They aren't going to replace it anytime soon. I wouldn't listen to anyone who says Wii U is "dead", because people say that about every device Nintendo releases, even before it is released and then some.

I, like you, thread creator, waited until I got my Wii U. There were a variety of reasons, many of which have been addressed here and in other threads. Basically, I was worried it would be a waste of time and money.

I have never played a console more since the days of GameCube. I've had my Wii U for 6 months and I recently purchased my 9th game for the system. I am extremely satisfied with the console, and the games are all top-notch. With the plethora of fantastic games coming this year, I think getting one is a no-brainer, however, we are all different and you should maybe look at some video reviews or Let's Plays so you can see some of the gameplay in action.

I can tell you that the system is worth it for Bayonetta alone, never mind Mario Kart 8. I don't own a game that I regret buying.

Exactly... I'm very happy with all the Nintendo releases and exclusives.... And the ones coming out this year will not disappoint.

This year is packed with some really unique offerings: Xenoblade X, Kirby, Splatoon, Devil's Third, StarFox (hasn't seen a game in a looooong time) and an open world Zelda. I would say it's better than last year, overall, even though Smash is amazing (haven't bought it yet, but love the series). and Bayonetta 2 was a critical success (if not finanacial).

I'd go as far as saying that out of all the gaming platforms I have ever owned the Wii U is the one I've been the most satisfied with. It may not hit the critical heights and it may not tickle the nostalgia as much as other platforms have. It's also not the most visually impressive system I own given I have a decent gaming PC. But it has been up there on all measures.

It's just a solid gaming platform with a decent amount of and variety of top-tier content. There's not that much else you can ask for from a gaming machine. I'll always love my old Gameboy because of the nostalgia, I'll always mention Super Mario Galaxy or Portal 2 when people ask what the best game ever made was and if there's a multi-platform game I'll always look for a PC version first. But when a platform gives you Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2, Pikmin 3 and then also promises HD Zelda, Starfox and new IP like Splatoon? Kinda hard to ignore that.

I am starting to see the Wii U almost like a high quality game of the month type club. I wish they got at least a few of the big multi-plats, namely Madden, 2k15 and the a few other top sellers...but the op has other systems for that. There's more than enough content to justify the purchas. Super Smash and mk8 are the types of games that you log at least 100, if not 200 hours onto....

There are also a lot of sales on decent to great indie games. Indies are a big thing right now, regardless of which console you have, and Wii U has a lot of the same indie games as Xbox and PS, plus a lot of others they don't have. This goes both ways for the other consoles; having games Wii U doesn't have, but it's still worth mentioning.

@RR529 "Splatoon (May 2015) - ---> Nintendo's first foray into the Third Person Shooter genré. <--- It has a heavy emphasis on online multiplayer (though there's also a singleplayer mode), and seems to feature that unique Nintendo vibe."

That's wrong. Their first foray into the third-person shooter genre was in 2005 with StarFox: Assault. In which is a very good game that you should buy if you have a Gamecube or a Wii. (Gamecube recommended)

Wait for a price drop at this point if you are not sold already

I'm still waiting for a price drop. Too much happening on the 3DS so far this year to pick up a Wii U. Also money going to amiibo!

Nintendo won't make a sucessor that soon, but I'd reccomend waiting a bit till a few more game are out, or when you catch it on sale. I personally feel that there aren't enough games in it right now. I'd wait till another big games comes out, then get it. I got one at launch, but getting it that soon was a mistake. But you also are interested in more games that are out right now, so you might want to get one now.

I think we're past the point where "waiting for more games" is a good answer to this question. In terms of quality and variety the Wii U has been on-par with the 3DS for a few months now. And the 3DS has been worthwhile since mid-2012 IMO. Especially if we take into account the content on the way for the Wii U, hard to argue that people should wait for more content.

Was true at launch, in 2013 and early 2014, isn't at all true now.
