The video is quite good and he makes a lot of points. I didn't realised that the Mario&Luigi series has the same problem as Paper Mario since I only played the first two games.
owns Dream Team ...No, Dream Team has a story and plenty of dialogue...the game seems perfectly fine to me.

I don't know if you guys checked out the analysis from Gamexplain but Color Splash is shaping up really well. Check the analysis and give this game a fair chance. It may not be the Mario RPG you guys have been asking for but this game is shaping up to be a great game on its own and which by me is a thumbs up 👍 And I'm pretty hyped for the game and I haven't been for a Home console Mario game in a long while.
I don't disagree on some level. I've only played Paper Mario and Super Paper Mario and I wasn't a huge fan of the latter. But it wasn't horrible and the general consensus is that only Sticker Star was "bad"

Can't recall why, but I genuinely disliked it. I need to get around to playing Sticker Star, I've got a feeling it isn't as bad as people make it out to be.

Sticker Star isn't bad, it's just that the original two are so much better. Battle system is more fun in the first two games and the worlds are more interesting (even if we have that standard grassy plain as a first level in every Paper Mario game, even the desert in the first PM). Stories of these games were at least ok (until Super Paper Mario which has easily the best Mario storyline to date) but you can fix a lot with a wonderful selection of unique characters and that's what those games had. Not just a bunch of generic Toads and that one different Toad in the snow level. I treat Sticker Star like Super Paper Mario as a spin-off game.

Just don't expect it to top TTYD or SPM, it's fun...but the lack of dialogue and little to no story just makes it "meh". Bowser doesn't even talk....
Also Chapter 3's (I think) boss is awesome. lol

...Nope. Sorry. Still not all that optimistic about this. Thanks for trying, though.
There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

Thanks for that video link! Color Splash is actually looking pretty good to me. The last console Paper Mario I played was Super Paper Mario. To me, this is back to basics. We'll get turn-based battles again, instead of platformer style combat. Mario now moves in 3D space instead of mostly 2D. The item shop is back.
The main consumable in this game seems to be the color reservoirs (Mario is an ink jet printer now?). This is like the FP and star power consumables in Paper Mario (and paint/thinner in Epic Mickey). The paint capacity will increase with leveling up. Maybe Mario will gain secondary colors later in the game. The color-based attack in the trailer seems grossly overpowered, wiping out the field with just one move. I bet we will also have the option of regular, no-paint attacks. I'm really curious how far they will take the playing cards metaphor.
I don't blame Nintendo for experimenting. Looking at the game sales, the less traditional Paper Mario games (Super Paper Mario and Sticker Star) have outsold the original two (http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Paper_Mario). Though fans of the first two are very vocal, I don't think the old formula has a large buyer base. While I like the original Paper Mario, I'm happy that Nintendo is continuing to innovate.
It would be really interesting if the battles worked like a trading card game like GameXplain says, but I seriously doubt it will be that complex.
From the direct footage it just looks you have all your cards available at all times and you just scroll through them (and that's probably why there's sometimes two overlapping cards at the far sides of the screen, to let you know you can scroll that way). So in that sense, it looks really similar to Sticker Star.
Yeah I saw that analysis video the other day. It pretty much dispelled my main worry with the game, which was having consumable attacks. In Sticker I had to memorize the location of the "good" stars and backtrack a lot, which I hated with a passion. It wasn't fun or engaging. It was a chore.
Reusable cards that use up ink is a huge improvement, because it makes it essentially the same as a normal turn-based RPG where characters use points to perform attacks. No constant backtracking required.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

I wonder what those Shy Guys are actually going to do with the color they suck out of the world... or Toads. Probably hand them over to Bowser for some reason.
