Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said to investors that the company is considering future mergers and acquisitions as a move to revitalize the company. We already heard earlier today that Nintendo is looking to expand their character licensing business. It certainly wouldn’t hurt for Nintendo to acquire some new studios. Who would you like to see Nintendo merge with or acquire?
“Nintendo has undergone continuous changes over years, moving from Hanafuda playing cards to video games, and offering newer systems like the Wii. But we’ve been preoccupied with a fixed idea of what a game should be like. The game industry is at a turning point amid new developments like the rise of smartphones.”
“…Mr. Yamauchi (former President Hiroshi Yamauchi) often said “Shitsui-taizen, Tokui-reizen,” meaning that we should act regally when things are bad, and be calm when things are going well.” Were he alive now, he would tell me to carry an air of confidence.”
“We built up cash reserves when earnings were strong. Because the entertainment industry ebbs and flows in wild swings, Mr. Yamauchi insisted it is vital to have deep pockets. Without savings, we could not have recovered from a single failure in game systems. Even now, we can afford many options because of our robust financial standing.”
“We’ll change the way we sell products, by managing customer information via the Internet. We’ll offer discounts to steady, regular customers. We’ll cultivate emerging markets and launch new businesses in health and other areas. In an emerging country, you can expand the user base only after you offer a product line different from advanced economies in pricing.”
“We should abandon old assumptions about our businesses. We are considering M&As [mergers and acquisitions] as an option. For this reason, we’ll step up share buybacks.”
All I can say to this is f***ing finally! It's about time. I always said nintendo didn't have enough studios. And since third parties are giving them the finger, increasing their in house development teams is just what nintendo needs to pick up the slack. As for mergers, Sega, Capcom, Namco-bandai, would probably be the best bets.

I like the idea of Nintendo owning Capcom. I bet they'd make more Mega Man games. And every Resident Evil game as a Nintendo exclusive, just awesome. I'd never have to miss out on a RE game again.
Nintendo would earn (re-earn?) my undying loyalty if they saved Capcom.
Agreed. I think out of all the companies they could aqcuire, capcom seems to be the most feasible. Because they're actually in trouble.
Yeah. We'd see more Revelations in the Resident Evil series & less 5 & 6 too. I had hoped 6 would be more like Revelations, but sadly it was more like 5, though there were actual puzzles in 6. Plus Monster Hunter, etc.
At the moment, Capcom isn't in such a dire situation, so I don't think Capcom should be their first "buy".
I believe Nintendo really learned from Microsoft buying Rare, and that they would only buy those that have a very bright history.
For example, they recently bought Next Level. However, they made 2 Mario Sports games, and rebooted Punch Out and Luigi's Mansion to obtain their position.
Mobiclip, made Gameboy Video and helped with all sorts of cutscenes with their handhelds before they were bought.
Nintendo had an interest in buying Atlus as well. However, I wonder if they would have outbid all the other companies, had Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem released, and was an absolute success...
I would be ecstatic if Nintendo purchased Capcom. Franchises like Megaman and Street Fighter are synonymous with Nintendo already, and it would be interesting to see what Nintendo would do with their other franchises like Ace Attorney, Monster Hunter, and Okami.
Also, if Nintendo acquired Capcom, we most likely wouldn't see so much of Capcom's annoying DLC practices.

Capcom is in financial trouble right now. They have to scale down production right now

Um, you're pretty much right about Megaman, but Street Fighter? I mean...maybe that period of time when Street Fighter Alpha 3 or whatever was on GBA but...no? Street Fighter 2 was popular on every early 90s platform it ended up on and Street Fighter 4 was on Nintendo once, and didn't do well because it was a 3DS launch title.
Well, Street Fighter 2 alone was on both Sega's and Nintendo's consoles, and had 3 versions to it, so it was very prolific during the 90s and is essentially a part of Nintendo history, imo. Just ask the people on this site, and many will recall playing Street Fighter II when they were younger. Sure, 3 was skipped and 4 was a port, but if Nintendo acquired Capcom, I'm sure Street Fighter could become a viable, exclusive franchise for Nintendo.
well it's too late to buy Atlus so, unless they buy Sega, Capcom is what they should aim for!!!

Hopefully they'll buy Capcom, or even Atlus! MAYBE SEGA YOU GUYS
if Nintendo, Sega and Capcom were to become a single company it would blast the entire universe for being too awesome to exist.
