Hello,
I'm newbie (not into game market at all) and need help to choose a console to play with my 5yrs old boy. I only have a PS2 to play Just Dance and looking to buy a console with motions games mostly.

Should I get a used wii or wii u with all accessories/games?

Obviously I'm not up to date with gaming stuff and do not want to spend a lot for the latest switch.

Games that I think we will enjoy is Rockband, Juste Dance, sport games, Lego, or any motion games. (No Zelda or fight games )

I'm not tech either so if I get wii or wii u do I need to buy any adapter or so since it's an old console?

Thank you very much for your input!

@dd2013 I advise you get a used Wii U from somewhere like ebay. It will play all the old Wii games, plus has a great selection of its own games. When buying any Wii Remotes to use, try and only get those that have 'Wii Motion Plus' built-in to them or that come with the adapter, to maximise compatibility with some of the more recent motion games.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

I will say WiiU aswell. If you bought the original Wii you'd miss out on games like Mario Maker, Wii Sports Club, Mario Kart 8, Lego City Undercover, Splatoon, and Minecraft. My nephews are 7 and 4, both love playing these games.

Wii U. The games look better than on the Wii, it plays all Wii games and you can pick one up second hand relatively cheap (you can get the console alone for under £100)

Unless you can pick up a Wii U console and accessories for dirt cheap, I would strongly recommend just picking up a Switch instead. The motion controls are a lot more intuitive and responsive, and many of the sorts of games that you seek, such as Just Dance and the Lego games, are being released on the Switch as well. The Joy-Con also have long battery life and include rechargeable batteries in the unit wheres Wii controllers require AAs (and third-party batteries and accessories have been, in my experience, of a really poor quality, even from brands such as Energizer).

A Wii Sports sequel isn't available yet, but Go Vacation, which was originally released on Wii, is coming, and it's only a matter of time before Nintendo releases a successor to Wii Sports. Just Dance games on Switch tend to get cheap quite quickly, so the latest instalments won't make too big a dent in your wallet.

The Switch is also a LOT easier to set up and requires very few cables (only two) to use with a TV. Since upgrading, I have seen little reason to go back. In fact, I don't even see a need to set up my Wii U again (at least not anytime soon) due to what a hassle it is to do so.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

Go with the Wii u. The games are cheaper especially the just dance games and you have a lot of gsmes to choose from. Try and get one with gsmes from eBay.

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

Wii U but realize that Gamestop and other places have already begun to dump inventory and the prices will start climbing.

I recommend the Wii U as well. If money is not an issue, go for the black model: it comes with 32GB of internal storage vs. the 8GB of the white model. Even if you're only planning to get retail games, 8GB might not be enough for updates and extra data in the long run.

And if you need recommendations either for you or your kid, feel free to ask.

Wii is a great console, I have always loved it and it seems like a good fit for what you need. On the other hand I never liked Wii U but honestly it can play all the Wii games that you seem interested into (it can play all Wii games) and it goes along better with modern tvs, so probably it is a better choice for you.

In my opinion the absolutely BEST game for a child (and great for anybody else too ) is a game that unfortunately is only available on consoles that don't offer much more for little kids other than it: Child of Eden. You can even play it using motion controls (I never tried it that way but everybody who has says it works fine) but I strongly reccommend you to let your child play it if you ever have the chance. Unfortunately it is only for X360 and PS3 that are not very good for kids aside from that single game It is such a shame.

I used to be a ripple user like you, then I took The Arrow in the knee
