Yowzah! That was pretty hard. Although taking the high way made it significantly easier. I like how there's multiple paths to choose from.

thank you for playing! i always try to lay out two or three paths to victory, with different difficulty levels. Try out my Swim or Sink level for a similar approach

Played and left a comment on it!
I didn't find it too hard, it was actually quite chill. ;D Just the right amount of challenge. It was fun to smack the fish around with a helmet.
If I'd say something you could improve... I kept going up at the beginning in hopes of finding something, but it was a bit empty. Place some coins or some such little things there to make it worthwhile.

Why don't you try out some of my levels?
I could use the feedback!

These levels look pretty cool! I'll play them later and leave comments!

You can leap off the shoe if you press R, just like with Yoshi. Not sure if you knew about that but it isn't hard to reach the door if you do that. I didn't intend for the player to bring the shoe with them if that's what you were trying to do.

Thanks for playing the level though and I'm glad you liked it.

I figured it was something simple....there was no R button in SMB3. I didn't even thing to try it and thought I could only lose the shoe by getting hit. I will try this again when I get the chance.

@ZukutoBen: I played a few of your level.
I'll be frank, I didn't enjoy them a lot, because each of them seemed very very random. Since there is almost no theming, and the levels are very spammy and similar, they really lack personality.

  • You use the same things too often. The monsters getting out of the pipes can quiclky become a nightmare: keep in mind the player doesn't know the level.
  • You seem to miss the point of some elements in the game, like the hammer bros. There is a reason why they always appear on upper platforms in Mario games. If you put one more on the ground, either it becomes almost unplayable, or you have to wait until all of them end up on platforms. Either way it make the fight extremely tedious.
  • As I said, way too spammy. It makes your level a complete mess. Give the player some room to breathe, observe, make decisions. Again you're not taking into account the fact that you know your level by heart and the player knows nothing of it.
  • There is no rythm to your level. It almost feels like they were artificially generated because you cannot distinguish zones in them. Not only does it make the purpose of the level unclear, it makes it less pleasant to go through.

You should make your levels prettier and give them some downtime, a sense of progression. Make calmer zones so the player knows he just finished something, and then make the next challenge more dinstinct from the previous one. Also make them prettier and clearer so it is pleasant to play them.

Overall, if there is one thing to remember when you make the level, it is this one:
You are not the one playing your level.

Hi guys, it would be great if you could check out the level I just completed. It has some tricky platforming but hopefully it is not too hard/unfair. Any feedback would be appreciated

@Moshugan: I tried you levels. The only one I didn't like much is your one-screen jump challenge.

The other 3 were great

  • Jump Master's Cave (Hard): good because the hardest parts are secrets (that I didn't even try XD) and the normal path is very fair.
  • Underwater Cave Story (Medium): has a fairy fun design. I loved the beginning with the para-troopas and the platforms. that's an awesome idea. I might borrow some stuff from this level. Enemy placement is great and fair too, which can be tricky underwater.
  • Trampoline Garden (Medium) is my favourite because you managed a really beautiful theming with the limited ressources of SMB.What you did with the threes and bushes is very nice. The level design is great too, and I found it fun despite having the worst time with trampolines usually. Beautiful, and well built, congrats.

I'll be following you

Quick question, is SMB the only style that can be one screen high if there's nothing up there? The last level I made was SMB3, was hoping to have it one screen high but it looks like I couldn't do that.

So I'm currently at 43 stars, wich makes me really happy since I only have 3 levels (I deleted one that had 5 stars though). I don't get the fuzz over uploading more levels since I think levels have to be uploaded just when they're of a decent quality — and that takes time.

I haven't shared but one of my levels in this thread (I mainly use the other SMM thread), but this time I'll post all 3 if you want to check them out, they're kinda good!

Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Check out my super awesome Super Mario Maker levels.

@Moshugan: Those were fantastic levels, really enjoyed completing them! Well done with Underwater Cave Story to make it hard but fair, so very often Cheep Cheeps and Bloopers gang up on you underwater! And that last leap in Jumpmaster's Cave is BRUTAL!!!

No clue what I did wrong there, then...maybe it's SMB3 only...

@Freeon-Leon: those levels were really cool.

  • Flood in 1-1 is a pretty fun idea. The level may be a little flat for that, but it is the most famous level of Mario so, yeah it makes sense.
  • Paratroopa Troop Trouble! is well themed and very balanced. I thought I would get bored of a level full of troopas, but no, it was entertaining all the way.
  • Donut Touch That! (Medium) was my favourite, because the platforming is nearly perfect. You really used the sawblades in a great way. That was a lot of fun.
