Nintendo is releasing a fairly major update for Mario Kart 8 on August 27. It will not only bring along the free Mercedes-Benz DLC, but also several additions/improvements.

Here’s the full rundown:

  • Map display will be added on the TV screen
  • Mercedes-Benz DLC will be available for free
  • Default menu selection following GP race is changing to next race (instead of view highlight)
  • Last used kart customization added to save
  • Edit others’ highlights
  • Records screen with total coins, online win-loss record, character selection rates, etc.
  • Improved online stability
  • Other problems will be addressed

While the update has only been officially announced for Japan, North America and Europe will almost certainly received the patch on the same day.

LOL same. I read somewhere you'll unlock something when you reach 10K coins.

Anyway nice update! Especially that map on screen and Next Race by default. Also 'can't wait to use that formula racing car!

I've been meaning to get it, but it's kind of annoying not knowing how close/far away you are I'll be a lot more motivated now that I'll be able to see my own progression.

The update has been confirmed for Europe too including the Mercedes karts, so no worries there!

That ones my favorite too. I like it the best because it reminds me of the Honeycoupe / Dragonetti from Mario Kart Wii.

@Jazzer94 Pfft that car is for hairdressers. We all know the Silberpfeil is the real stuff. One can't deny the racing pedigree and the magnificent I-8 engine that was placed in that car. I really hope Nintendo will manage to put in the engine notes in the game. Can't wait to drive that thing in Royal Raceway! I have never been so excited for a FOC DLC.

I was extremely annoyed with wrong placement when crossing the finish line, here's hoping this patch addresses that!

I'm OK with the Merdecdes-Benz DLC. Actually really like the 300 SL Roadster, the other two are alright but I look at the W 25 Silver Arrow and think whichever guy that's driving it is compensating for something...
Anyway, this update looks very promising and you can bet I'll be playing with PGP in the Roadster. XD
