Will it go right through you if you have a star too? And what if you're 1st and get hit while being powered by a star?

If you have a star you're fine, of course.

IIRC the blue shell will still explode on you but you'll drive through the explosion without taking any damage if you have the Power Star in use. Kind of like how it works when you're hit by a Bombomb while using a Power Star.

Sometimes players are very annoying. I had kept 1st place for the whole race, then BAM a Blue Shell and three Red Shells. Luckily the others were quite far behind, but I got 4th. >=(

There simply is no mercy on Mario Kart online. The wonky item distribution and occasional lag makes it frustrating experience for me, personally...

Yeah, nope. That pretty much sums it up for me, too.

Really? I still say this has been far easier to finish first for me then the last 2 games. I struggled to finish in the top 6 on those. This game has been a lot easier all around for me and I really can't complain about the items given, placement, and the toning down of the Blue Shell spamming.

I've noticed that the red shells are more prone to smash into obstacles and they change the player they target onto ( I think they target to the position and not the player itself)

Definitely not. I've seen Red shells pass a player directly. I don't think they target either, but both. It goes after the position, then when it gets close, it targets that player. Similar to the blue shell. That said, if you're in 4th, the 3rd place racer is to either side, but not really "in front" of you, and the 2nd place racer is anywhere nearby, I've noticed the red shell will go for the more convenient target: the 2nd place racer.

If Red Shells appear to be behaving strangely while playing online then it's most likely do to lag.
With a bad connection they become really unpredictable and not even holding items behind you will always save you.
Playing offline though, they seem about the same as always as far as I can tell.

Maybe I find so many bad rooms because I have such a low rating?
Can people with 1000 VR end up with people with 9000 VR if there are no other people searching?

The game tries to match you with players with similar ratings so I'd say it's pretty unlikely you'll end up in a group where everyone's a whole lot higher.
Best way for that is to join someone through your friend list who has a high rating.

The maps are quite large, the item boxes aren't placed frequently enough to compensate for the the maps size, you can only hold one item at a time, and even then you aren't guaranteed an offensive weapon (in grand prix mode). No mayhem, no chaos, just driving and the occasional banana peel or turtle shell, unfortunately. The lack of two items is a very questionable change, it significantly lowers the amount of chaos on the track. It all only adds to the problem.

I disagree. The change to the way you hold items hasn't made the game "less frantic" if anything it has forced people to be less defensive in the way they play. If you are in second or third your primary goal is to try and take first. In previous Mario Karts you could do that by shooting all your items at first while maintaining a defence. If you were in first you could be extra defensive by holding multiple defensive items so they countered that by making Blue Shells and so on much more frequent.

Now if you're in the middle of the pack it's chaos because you can't defend AND attack at the same time. You have to pick when to defend and when to attack. The number of times I've decided to use my banana peel or shell just before the next item box only to get a coin or mushroom and be left defenceless to a red shell. How is that not more chaos? Sure if you're first now you can usually get a bit of a lead because the pack is chaos, you have no reason to be aggressive rather than defensive and there are less Blue Shells. But if you're in the pack? Or if second place has a triple red shell? It's crazier than previous Karts.

Can you explain to me how to use the items defensively against shells? You mean you use the banana just before the red shell hits you and you're saved?

It's either beat all the cups, including Mirror, or get three stars in every cup. Since I got my final three star rank on the very last cup, I can't tell which one it is.

I've recently looked into how I could possibly win a (major/official) tournament room where I usually see people with perfect scores and I've come to the conclusion that winning tournaments is based on pure luck and luck alone.

Not due to items or other players, but due to glitches, lagging and how the computer targets players.
I've been playing through at least 3-4 tournaments a day and a lot of the same problems come up at terrible times, as seen in this replay that I uploaded...

A race that had glitched finish shortly after the 3rd lap began that declared a cpu Pink Gold Peach as being 1st place when in reality her spot at the time was 5th. I get at least one finish like this in every 1 out of 5 tournaments with the lagged finish being more common.

I've examined this through and through and I have come up with a strategy to get a perfect score in a tournament, but it still heavily requires luck to be set in a group that will allow you to avoid these issues that really need a patch of some sort.

@JusticeColde Looks like in that race there's only three of you who aren't CPUs.
Maybe the race cuts out early if there's only one human player left driving, like it would if there was no CPUs?

Mirror Mode is pretty cool and fun.

Hey, Nintendo.... HEY! Its about time to showcase some DLC.... Now do it the right way. The first batch of DLC should contain characters, tracks, and a better Battle Mode. Make it free or really cheap!!!!!!!

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!
