Okay so, the online...
When I search for games, I almost always end up spectating. I even ended up spectating from the beginning of the race, I could even see them building up the boost before the race begins.
Anyway, then I went and tried a custom game. First I tried Frantic, but I got into a room. With myself. And then I tried 150cc, it worked, but during the second race I disconnected for no reason. Right in the middle of the awesomeness! It didn't lag or anything, just a sudden disconnection.
And just one minor detail. After selecting Global or Regional and get to the character select screen, I can't back out? Oh good, so I have to search for a race, maybe even spectate, it all has to load, and THEN I can leave.
But negative things aside, I'm loving it.

Eh...spectating isn't as bad as past games. You can change which person you want to watch.
I've never tried custom mode so I can't vouch for it. Haven't had a single disconnection yet, though.
As for not being able to back out after selecting Global or Regional, when you choose one or the other, the game immediately starts its search for a group for you to join while you choose your character and kart. Cuts down on waiting.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)

Oh that's smart, but being able to cancel that search shouldn't be too hard to add, right..?

You can cancel it. You have to wait a bit before it can allow you to cancel. If you're try to back out from the search and it's taking a long time, it's because the people are racing, so you might have to wait for it to end (if you're lucky you'll be able to cancel earlier), or the racers might have finished the race and they're going back to the lobby. In any case, just wait and the game will let you cancel your search.

Well I tend to use the power drift alot especially in corners and I do the speed boosts off of the jumps too. I have tried using a variety of racers but I tend to keep going back to Rosalina, It seems that my biggest problem is just catching up to the pack after I get hit with an item or bump into a wall.
That's pretty much MK8 for you. 7, Wii and DD all had great item balancing for getting up places, but it's lacking in 8.
Mushrooms don't do anything, and not to mention from 4 onwards you either get triple mushrooms, red shell or a coin.
Very hard to get up places because they don't give you the means to.
Also, in terms of characters, it doesn't matter that much really. If you like tight controls go lighter, if you prefer a higher top speed go heavy. FYI, Yoshi, Peach and Daisy have really good stats, a perfect mix of light and middle characteristics.
Yeah I noticed the item balance is lacking in 8 too drives me nuts at times. Also I figured out my probelm I was using Rosalina thinking she played like Peach and Daisy but instead she's classified as heavy so now I started to use Daisy and can handle the kart better.

The enemy AI is WAAAAAY too easy (even on 150cc) and there was no mayhem or chaos in my play through. The game is too tame.
You know what you should do then? Play online and on frantic mode.
We'll see how you'll do against others who think the same, while being attacked by crazier items.

It does seem easier than most MK games. I guess that's why you don't get any kind of reward for earning a three star rank on every cup in 50-, 100- & 150CC.
Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

I haven't noticed it being any easier than Mario Kart Wii or Mario Kart 7.
The CPUs on 150cc were always really easy to beat in those too.

I've decided that the AI isn't the main problem. It's the map design and items, i think (hear me out). As for frantic mode, it isn't an option for grand prix, but I find it doesn't fix the problem.
The maps are quite large, the item boxes aren't placed frequently enough to compensate for the the maps size, you can only hold one item at a time, and even then you aren't guaranteed an offensive weapon (in grand prix mode). No mayhem, no chaos, just driving and the occasional banana peel or turtle shell, unfortunately. The lack of two items is a very questionable change, it significantly lowers the amount of chaos on the track. It all only adds to the problem.
(I also feel like they messed with the item boxes and lowered the chances of getting a blue shell, making the new music box a lot less useful. You can go the whole grand prix and only get a blue shell once in MK8, but in Wii, you'd get them much more often.)

I disagree, MKWii's 150cc was incredibly hard and often ended in failure. MK8 is surprisingly tame.

Blue blue.

Might be the difference in item bakancing in MK8 then I guess. I remember trying to earn a three star ranking on MKWii in every CC and found it practically impossible since I were always hit by a blue shell in at least 2/4 of the races.
In this iteration I can play a whole cup without even seeing a blue shell. It's a breeze.
After playing Mario Kart 8 for a few hours, I actually found that I was getting Blue Shelled in 150cc at least once per race, quite often twice.
They're actually pretty frequent if you get far enough ahead.
I did find that even two Blue Shells in a race would rarely cause my problems though.
Getting three stars in Mario Kart Wii was a lot harder, but that was due to the requirements for achieving three stars being a lot stricter... It wasn't only enough to win every race, you had to actually race well with very few mistakes.
In Mario Kart 8 all you have to do is win every race, which makes it a piece of cake.
I never had trouble beating the CPUs each race on 150cc in either Mario Kart Wii or Mario Kart 7, so it feels like much of the same in that regard here.
I don't like how short Rainbow Road 64 is, because if I fall behind once, I'm behind the whole race, and will have to replay the WHOLE Lightning Cup...

This may not be the right thread, but I am looking for some fellow racers to go up against...I am not the best but I am decent...I think. Also, this is my first MK game since N64, so to me it is a bit refreshing and a very enjoyable ride.
