I probably still wouldn't buy it, a price cut would be nice but games I'd really love to play it on it would be even better, of course both would be even better still.
They shouldn't consider cutting the price until Q1 2014 at the earliest. They don't have enough 'must play' games on the system right now to encourage sales, and I doubt cutting the price by $30-50 would make people buy one now either if they have nothing they want to play on it. Nintendo should keep the price as it is and hope that the big titles they release this holiday season (Mario Kart, Mario 3D, Star Fox?) create an increase in sales. Then around this time next year, drop the price a bit.
In all likelyhood, on launch the 720/PS4 will be $150-200 more than the Wii-U currently is anyway, so price isn't a factor.

Wait until fall or how about ditching nintendoland as a pack in and include NSMBU ?
Erm... NLand is basically like the perfect pack-in game, imo. It shows off what the Wii U can do, NSMBU doesn't really do that. Plus, I'd pick NLand over NSMBU any day.

But NSMBU would be a better decision I think. Mario is a name people associate with and carries some brand power.

Not only will Nintendo lose more money with a lower price, such early price cuts have a rather large backlash because it immediately tells consumers, investors, and developers that the company is viewing the system as failing this far. It's considered a drastic measure when it's within the first year of release, and especially after the 3DS it could really hurt Nintendo's reputation more than other solutions to low sales. If Nintendo did that now then consumers would easily start assuming all Nintendo consoles will have price cuts in the first year and it could even affect later system launches. Perhaps we'll see a small price cut for holidays to compete with the other consoles launching but I think sales and bundles are more likely.

But if NSMBU was a pack in theres also the argument that people will see more value in the system so more will purchase it. Perhaps the long term results would be worth it more than the short term.

Let's also think about this from Nintendo's standpoints.
Wii U with NLand? People will buy it and then buy NSMBU.
Wii U with NSMBU? People will buy that, but won't get NLand.
To me that says the consumer is viewing Nintendo Land as an inferior product.
I agree with your conclusion, alternatively if Mario became the pack-in then Nintendo Land should be priced affordably in the $40 range.

Perhaps, but I doubt it. I've seen many people say this though, including myself...
Wait for Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, LEGO City Undercover, Bayonetta 2, X, the 3D Mario to be unveiled at E3, the MarioKart to be unveiled at E3, Super Smash 4, and alll the other games coming to Wii U before too long(lot so much with Super Smash 4, but you get my point). Nintendo isn't going to lower the price soon because they know those games are going to sell systems.
The games will eventually come yes and I am in that group that says no I will wait but I'm betting by the time many of those games get here (my guess is next year for the bulk of them) there will be a price cut anyway by then.

Pikmin 3 apperently coming Q1(ok, maybe Q2)
LEGO City Undercover comes in less than a month
Wonderful 101 comes out in the next few months
Bayonetta 2 comes this year
Mario Kart U and the 3D Mario will probably hit the Wii U before Christmas
But that isn't soon at all
Anyway, you basically completely missed my point.
EDIT: And don't forget Yarn Yoshi, that Pokemon game whose name escapes me, Fire Emblem vs Shin Megami Tensei(did I spell that right?) and E3 isn't even here yet.
Still too early for Nintendo to do a price cut. Right now I feel that the WiiU is at the price that it needs to be and hopefully when they do a price cut, I hope that it sells well.
