I'm not. Don't really want to be hyped, that usually makes the wait harder.

That's true. It's also not good to be over hyped, as it can ware off over time. I remember that my body was ready for Pokemon B/W, but about a month before they came out, I suddenly lost a lot of interest, and when I got the game, it was no where near as exciting as if I got it a month or so before.

Currently playing: Rhythm Heaven, Minecraft (XBLA), Pokemon B/W 2, Halo 4, The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave, Fallblox, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GCN)

Will be playing soon: Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Cave Story +, Wii U: NSMBU, Nintendo Land, (And lots more!)

I wouldn't say I hype it up but just give useful info about the system that the person wouldn't know about.

Ex. Me: have you heard about the Wii U
Other person: isn't that just another Wii with a screen/ never heard of it.
From there I tell them about the Wii U overall and depending on the person age and interest I tell them about certain games/feature like if they're an adult that not into games, I tell them more about Wii U TVii.

I am not sure why there is not much coming out of the Nintendo camp. In the states, we are less than three weeks away, and I haven't seen anything on TV about it. That said. All of the perorders are sold for the most part so I guess what is the real point in hyping something that will not even be available. I don't know it is just a strange way to introduce a product, but that is why they pay them the big bucks.

I think Wal-Mart still has online and in-store pre-orders, which makes me wonder if the system isn't doing as well in pre-orders as many think. The largest retailer in the States, runs an ad on their weekly flier, announcing their layaway/reserve program, and they still have pre-orders available?

Perhaps Nintendo knows how limited supply will be, but creating a demand now and then positive word-of-mouth being good for it, should help sales continue I would imagine. They just seem to be holding their cards really close with stuff at this point, and even advertisements to help the general public know there is a "new" Mario system this holiday might help some grab it, that may have passed it up. The whole timing thing is really odd right now...

The topic is very rare and when it is brought up I just tell them it doesn't really interest me much, because sadly it really doesn't.

Walmart has 2 options, layaway and their own bundle. Their own bundle offer online says in the fine prine "Preorder this item today and it should ship on 11/18/2012." They are not guaranteeing anything with a statement like that. A "layaway" option sounds like an odd way of offering a preorder option for a video game console so that may give them a way to manage their Wii U launch. I don't think you definitely can say that Walamrt still has Wii U's available on launch day.

Anyway, here's my 2 cents on TV advertising. I don't really see a 30 second commercial really having much affect at this early stage of the game. Supply is going to be limited right now and I think the Wii U's will be sold out and hard to get for awhile. Word of mouth will get out along with info on the Internet and social media will be a buzz with positive (or negative) press/hype. What is a 30 second TV ad going to accomplish right now? Here is a simple scenario. Some random family is going to be like "wow, I did not know about the Wii U before but after seeing that commercial I want one." "Just think of all the great Wii Fit's and dance games I can get!" <They find out it is sold out> "Oh man, I cannot get one right now and there are not a lot of "casual" games out now anyway."
I don't think Nintendo is not targeting this group yet. This is not the base you want to build upon at the beginning in my opinion. Again, you are only going to a limited amount of systems. I think it is wise to first attract those Nintendo diehards and early adopters that make up the "hardcore gaming" market to kickstart the Wii U revenue.

Yeah, I wouldn't go by Walmart. They have never had a preorder system in place that one could rely on. I did hear about their preorder bundle. It is something they put together. I agree at this stage of the game with everything sold out, it would almost be a waste of time and money to put something out unless they were sure they would have product on release day.

Everyone I know IRL thinks the Wii U is just the same Wii.

When I told my friend about it he said, "That's OK, I don't need another Wii."

People are excited for it, but they're not buying it. They're content with their PS3s and 360s, but they seem interested in the Wii U. My hype is just contagious is all I can say. It literally emits a gas that gets everyone talking about the Wii U. Some girl who I would imagine wouldn't go anywhere near a gaming console played the Wii U at Best Buy and loved it.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.

No one that I know cares. They "don't want a new Wii"

After reflection, I realized it's been an effort just to keep my own hype up. I mean, I've heard so much pessimism towards the Wii U that it's hard enough to convince myself this is worth getting excited over. But I really want to be excited over it because it's a huge purchase for me, and it's just after the one year anniversary of my father's death, so I really want this distraction to cheer me up. After all, my dad got me into Nintendo games and even my last big console purchase, the Wii, he went out of his way to help me get one at launch when the preorders ran out and it's only thanks to him that I got one on the first day.

For me, since I'm one of the team members of StreetPass NYC, we're preparing for a Wii U launch event on the 18th at the Nintendo World Store.

Though I'm in Vermont for college right now, I'll be at the launch since my Thanksgiving break begins on launch weekend.

But seeing how it really integrates the use of the Wii U GamePad, it's really a true survival horror experience that cannot be replicated on other systems.

I'm not raising any hype for it! I was too late to preorder and I don't want to wait until next year to get one!

After confirming that I can get it day one... I'm raising hype by being overly excited about getting it. Still oozing out Wii U liciousness...
