Is it a refurbished replacement or a brand new one?

And yeah, that sucks.
At least nobody was hurt though.

doesn't this means you've lost any digital games you had.

You may want to run that by Nintendo and confirm that.

You may want to read one article about nintendo somewhere else than NL...

Games are linked to your NNID, so they can be restored after theft or destruction of the console. Game saves would be unrecoverable though.

I can't believe people still don't know about this. Games are tied to your NNID NOT hardware. The tied to hardware stuff is already in the past for a long time now. OP lost all his saves data and honestly 30 pounds just doesn't cut it.....I can't imagine if I lost my 300+hours of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate....ugh.

I know the Wii U games are tied to the NNID but what about the Wii Shop Items that would have been transferred to the Virtual Wii Channel. The Wii Shop Channel May not be.

I'm pretty sure Wii shop stuff were also automatically registered to Club Nintendo.

The NNID can only exist on one machine at a time. The later versions of the Wii U OS has a utility to transfer the account and all its data to another machine, and Nintendo would probably be able to help in other cases.

@Xiao_Pai

It was always tied to the club Nintendo account but that does not mean it is tied to a NNID. You can only have 1 3ds and one Wii U tied to a NNID. I have 3 3ds on my club Nintendo and my wife needed her own nnid which is still registered to the same club Nintendo account.

The original Wii and DSi Shop Channels were made before the NNID. In the past the only way to have your Shop account transferred to another Wii was if it had died and Nintendo transferred the Shop settings. I know the eShop know if you purchased a title and offer an upgrade discount but that does not mean that the shop channel in the Wii channel is tied to the NNID or if you were to tie his new Wii U to his NNID that the Wii channel will auto connect to it as it has its own settings.

He'll get his games back. They are on the NNID. He should be able to just log in the NNID on the new Wii U, then go redownload. If not, then Nintendo will still work it out. That is also kind of why I wish we could just log in and use the ext, HDD with the files already on it. The work around could be allowing the NNID to only be logged on one Wii U and 3DS at a time. If the NNID is logged in somewhere else, then it would say, "Already logged in on another Wii U/3DS", or something of that nature.

I'm guessing none of the Wii Us survived the devastating fire.

So Digital content can be recovered with your NNID on Wii U but on 3DS it can not?

I think it can now. Keep in mind that NNID was only recently added to 3DS
