So I found this http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=190654&page=1

Guys this is a really disheartening News. I don't know what this could mean for the actual or further sales down the line and I haven't done any further researches but if real, it pretty much sums up Bayonetta 2 did not do well in japan.

This is a really Bad news, if Bayonetta 2 really fails in Japan.I'm so going to be pissed at the Japanese Wii U gamers. Not that I am forcing them to buy Bayonetta 2, Pfff...Oh C'mon !!! who does not get hyped for the successor to arguably the best Action game made??? Ok fine Wii U Japan you didn't buy Bayonetta 2...What did you buy for Wii U than??? Cause of late there hasn't been any major game releases, last Hyrule Warriors, which didn't do well itself.ofcourse we've had Disney Infinity 2.0 which bombed. I'm assuming these are the people with multiple consoles but again it's only been Destiny elsewhere.I thought Action games were popular in Japan IDK. If Bayonetta 2 fails we have a really bad/sad situation for Wii U.I mean M rated games cannot get any bigger/better than this, and if this game fails I don't know about third Parties but We Wii U Gamers can Kiss M rated games goodbye and I actually won't have anything against Nintendo. I will just assume that there just aren't enough core gamers on Wii U.

NOW IF IT FAILS IN JAPAN, THE FATE OF BAYONETTA RELIES ON THE HANDS OF EUROPE AND AMERICA...YOU SEE WE'VE GOT THIS WONDERFUL LADY IN TROULBLE, WHY DON'T WE GIVE HER A HELPING HAND...OR TWO BOYS...

*Please enlighten me on anything that may be misleading to actual facts and if what I've brought to you is not the case and/or Does not end up the way I've brought up in this topic. Please, straight away point me to that and I will DELETE this topic right away.Beacuse I do not want any Negative Vibe surrounding Bayonetta 2.It's my most awaited game this year (Could well end up being this generation).

  • UPDATE : I can sense things are getting unsettled in the forum, I wan't all of you to know that just like you, it is a question for me as well.I am not saying that Bayoneta 2 bombed in Japan. It is a question, did Bayonetta 2 really Bomb in Japan?
  • UPDATE : Well the Media Create Software Sales are are out and it seems Bayonetta 2 has not done well in Japan afterall. It debuted with less than 40k Sales. We have a very sad situation here.

Source : http://nintendoeverything.com/media-create-software-sales-915...

  • UPDATE : So I was thinking maybe what people here are saying could turn out to be true (I hope they are) and that the sales numbers only counted for two days of sales because Bayonetta 2 released on 20th and media create only accounted the numberst untill 21st if i'm not wrong. So I am eagerly waiting for how the second week numbers turn up.Fingers crossed that it turns out massively improved which imo could possibly happen.BUT even if the second week numbers don't turn up good than I think it's safe to say It will only go downwards from there.Hence not a successful release in Japan. So guys keep your hopes up.There still a chance Bayonetta 2 could turn a success in Japan.
  • UPDATE : Media Create seems to have shared bit more info on the Bayonetta 2 Sales. And according to that, Bayonetta 2 managed to sell 67.29% of it's initial shipment. Which leaves me wondering if Nintendo were expecting all the low sales, Because the game sold just about 39k and still managed to sell 67% of it's initial shipment? Lets hope it gets better the second week, also this time around Bayonetta 2 has a whole week of sales.Fingers Crossed.
  • UPDATE : The Media Create Software sales are out for the week and the number of Bayonetta 2 copies sold for the week is Abysmal. It didn't even manage to sell 7K copies, just 6,970.The number dropped ridiculously low for its second week. And we here were expecting a better number. With this we can safely say that Bayonetta 2 is a sale fail in Japan.

Last I checked, Platinum always does way worse in Japan...despite their themes, they actually don't seem to have much of a following there.

EDIT: Also, I'm not seeing that it bombed...it ranked 5th after some very popular games. And there aren't any numbers there, just rankings. What is TSATUSA or however you spell it? A retailer? A a data collection thingy? I'm gonna have to look into this.

@CanisWolfred I just hope Bayonetta 2 EXCEEDS expectations in the Europe and America.

Yeah, I saw that.

From what I can gather, it appears to be a ranking of sales for games in Japan (I neither speak nor read Japanese, so I'm basing my assumptions off of the numbers). Also it seems that out of the top 5, only one game was not for a Nintendo platform. Additionally, a Wii U game is in the top 5 (Bayo 2), which, coincidentally, edged out Destiny for the PS4.

I'd say that's bodes fairly well, actually. Top 5 ain't bad at all, right?

Bayonetta 1 sold 300k out of the total 2.04 M units (both platforms) in Japan, and the Japanese market has recently pretty much turned into a market for handhelds, so I don't really know what the OP expected.

@Salamihawk That's because its Multiplatform sales and Assuming majority of people are still with their 7th Gen Consoles and haven't made the jump to PS4 yet. And for Bayonetta 2 to only be 5th on it's opening week is Not Good.

@Pahvi IDK about the sales in Japan but the overall sales of Bayonetta 1 was fairly OK for a new IP.

@jariw It's because Bayonetta 2 is one of the high profile games Nintendo has to offer and where Wii U is in a crysis of M rated games you'd have expected the Wii U gamers to Jump in and ofcourse because Wii U is doing Best in Japan.Your thoughts?

But it's not the opening "week," it's only been out for 3 days in Japan. To reach number 5 in 3 days is pretty good in my eyes. Furthermore, there are no other 8th gen console games occupying the top 5 slots apart from Bayo 2 for the Wii U, so that's also a good thing. Additionally, we only see place numbers, we don't see the total number of units moved, plus these are only stats from one retailer.

You don't have to be number 1 to be successful. At best this info is entirely incomplete and suggests very little about how well or bad Bayonetta 2 is doing in Japan. Only until we can see sell-through figures for this week (20 Sep - 27 Sep) can we begin to draw conclusions about the game's retail performance.

It seems to be doing pretty well IMO. Ranking 5th in the sales charts is great.

The first few days are probably the strongest selling days if you ask me (I may be wrong) and No you don't have to be No. 1 to be successful, you just need to be profitable to be successful which again means being No. 1 is the way to go.So you decide.

Yeah, Japanese gamers don't give a damn about any of that. This adolescent insecurity where gamers are afraid of being seen as childish if they play E-rated games is a very Western thing.

And from what I'm seeing, Bayonetta 2 is ranked behind freakin' Smash Bros, the two versions of Yokai Watch 2, and Destiny at one retailer.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

Even in that case, we are talking about arguably the best action game made so I don't see your point valid.Ofcourse if it didn't appeal the mass would be a different case but I thought action games were popular in Japan

And if Bayonetta 2 is ranked behind Smash Bros, the two versions of Yokai Watch 2, and Destiny at one of the retailers.

That is a good sign
