So I've trained him up to level 50 several times, but each time he just ends up being an ultra defensive loser to the point that he won't attack or take advantage of openings. Generally I use the method involving a mirror level 9 CPU for the first 10 levels followed by me using the same character as the amiibo for the next 10 and then varying it up some the rest of the way. I also set my handicap up to encourage more aggression, and I try not to beat him every time so he won't become defensive. By about 20 he's doing great, just like I want him to, but 30 and above he starts being pathetically defensive. Can anyone suggest better ways to train him?
My friend basically plays all of his amiibo against each other and they're all super aggressive. Not sure if that helps at all. They key might be to train them against multiple foes at once instead of one on one. It's a lot harder to be defensive with 4 (or 8) players after all.
Well pitting them against a team of 7 level 9 cpus doesn't do much for them
It gives them amazing dodging skills.
I don't claim to be an amiibo training expert or anything, but I do know that you need to be as hard on them as possible so they can git gud. If you pit them in easy situations they will gain skills accordingly.

Personally I didn't find that to be the case, all they really seemed to be good at was getting back onto the stage. Next time I might start them off at one opponent until level 8 and then introduce another fighter every 7 levels after that
The problem I found with 8 player was that my amiibo would pick up bad habits. After an 8 player bout, I played against Ike one on one, and he started doing his up smash over and over right as the match started. I wasn't even standing near him.
Is an example, no 8 or 9, cause the amiibo would be in handicap. If the amiibo is on level 20 by example, level 5 would fit for him, on higher levels the amiibo will be strong for the computer, and keeps pressing the attack, never defending. If someday you want to training him on guarding, put it in 2v1 match against another amiibo lvl50 or lvl9 computer.
I have tons of amiibos and tried using them in Smash once. Never found the appeal of it when I can just face a human player online. Also never found the appeal of using Miis in Mario Kart when I can use a Nintendo character I actually like.
