Yeah, it was kinda off beat for a mario game. the goombas looked like hamburgers, and the koopas, wern't even koopas! Still a great game, even if it wasn't along the lines of Super Mario 64
Sunshine's one of my favourite GameCube games. Even if you're not doing anything, it's just fun to muck around in the stages, especially the hotel area and Ricco Harbor. Even more so with the rocket nozzle.
One thing I noticed about this game, compared to Super Mario 64 and Galaxy, is that the areas seem to make "more sense" as "places" in this game. For example, just look at the random assortment of floating blocks and ramps that is Whomp's Fortress, and compare that to a fairly regular-looking Gelato Beach. I kind of like this as it's not usually done in platform games. Of course, all the platform craziness can be found in the "secret" stages in this game. That's also where the game truly shines, too.
Overall, I give Super Mario Sunshine a big, fat thumbs-up. I think this game controls ways better than Super Mario 64, and can be more fun than Mario 64 at times.

I love Sunshine. I actually found myself wanting to go back to it while playing Galaxy 2 at times. While the Galaxy games are great linear 3D Mario games, I think my preference is for the open-ended ones (SM64 and Sunshine). I would love the next Mario game to start in a giant green field with the princess' castle on the horizon, a huge vine off in another direction that leads up into the clouds, and some woods off in another direction, etc. That's the sort of feeling that Super Mario 64 and Sunshine gave me (to a lesser extent of course), which the Galaxy games were just lacking. Sad to say, we'll probably never see a Mario game like that again, since the Galaxy games were so well received. But in Sunshine and 64 it was fun just to control Mario and run around in the open worlds, and Sunshine probably had some of the best mechanics of any Mario game. There were so many and they were fun to use. I could probably just run around in Delfino plaza forever.
Really, I love all of the 3D Mario games, but I hate seeing people trash Sunshine. It was pretty special to me.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
Agreed. As much fun as the Galaxy games have been, I'm also rather sad at the thought that their success probably means that 3D Mario games will continue to be more linear, and we may never see the wonderful open levels of a game like Sunshine again. In fact, after playing through these Galaxy games so much of late, I feel like I appreciate Sunshine more than ever, and really miss that kind of gameplay.

I also miss the wide open worlds. I never really felt lost or had to really take the time to look around in either Galaxy game; it was simply get from point A to point B. Heres hoping that Jett Rocket will fill the void and provide us with big worlds to explore.
Back to the topic, I have finally finished Mario Sunshine with 100%! After all these years, I have finally gathered every last shine and blue coin. I admit that I did use a guide on the Noki Bay blue coins; that level always confuses me. (I collected all that I could at first and used the guide to find the last couple that I missed.)
Terrible Camera Controls/View in This Game Very Frustrating..Also The Level Where You Have To Guide The Leaf To Get The Red Coins Very Annoying...Overall Good Game But I Still Think it Doesn't Compare To Other Mario Games Like 64 or Galaxy
Well, I picked up on Super Mario Sunshine again after owning it for many, many years. Felt like I should since I'm behind on my 3D Marios and Super Mario 3D Land is out soon. And I got some reminders of why I love Mario side-scrollers so much more than Super Mario 64 style.
Don't get me wrong. The graphics are beautiful, the gameplay is quirky and fun. But, the controls and difficulty p*ss me off to no end! Nothing like the camera screwing up your view while you're on a moving platform. Or pulling off the wrong move because of Mario's position in relation to the camera and going into a pit. And the difficulty/ease of dying. Like crashing into something while blooper surfing killing you. Really? Then the stages where Shadow Mario steals FLUDD and you jump across all those moving, twirling, disappearing ledges. I could spend 100 lives on some of those.
I'm going to finish Sunshine, but I can't see getting all 120 Shines. And I'm a perfectionist type. I don't have that kind of time or patience for this game. Super Mario 64 didn't frustrate me like this. Anyone else feel this way?
Oh and I'm not necroposting. This is the Super Mario Sunshine thread, and I don't like to post new topics unless necessary.
Let's attack aggressively, kupo! :D

I can't imagine why, but all of a sudden, I had an urge to post here.
I would have to say that one of my favorite levels was the watermelon festival. I never quite finished the game--that boat ride before the final boss is tough stuff. Speaking of tough, I really enjoyed all the inside a ____ levels (the ones without FLUDD). All the failure only made nabbing the shinesprite at the end even more gratifying!
As for my least favorite level, I would have to say that it was Manta-Ray Storm (the one where a giant poisonous ray washes up on the beach) followed by catching the flaming chain-chomp pups.
