Topic: Theories of why there are no Super Smash Bros. games on NSO

I have found it very weird that the original SSB has not come to NSO. Especially since all the characters are in NSO games.

Meelee is an absoulute fan favorite, and was not shown to be coming to NSO gamecube. Meelee is the perfect game to make people want to get NSO+Expansion. So why isn't it here?

It makes me wonder if they have a plan to use those games in the future for something else.
Maybe a collection of some sort...
Any theories? Or is there a specific reason they won't come to NSO that I don't know about?

Warning: Spicy opinions like "M&Ms are overrated." may leak from this unit!

@CobaltFan The N64 game only came to Wii U Virtual Console in Japan so this isn't a new thing. I think the NSO absence is because of Ultimate, they want you to play Ultimate not the old games.

If there aren't enough people demanding Smash 64 on NSO, there definitely will be for Melee.

@Grumblevolcano I'm not sure about that - surely if people could discover Smash through NSO it would make them more interested in buying a substantially bigger iteration of the game, not less. And they have three Mario Party games on there, which I think has more chance of taking sales away from modern Mario Party than Smash 64 does from Ultimate. Having said that, I really don't know what the reason could be for Nintendo's reluctance to rerelease Smash 64.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

Double Dash wasn’t shown either, so they’re probably just waiting for the right time to release it, since it’s likely that they’re (hopefully) preparing for the next Smash Bros. game, like how there’s gonna be a new Mario Kart. If Melee or Double Dash gets thrown onto NSO immediately, that might divide interest between those and the upcoming entries (some people might be only interested in playing Melee/Double Dash and vice versa).

I once read something about Masahiro Sakurai not wanting Smash Bros 64 there, because he viewed it as much rougher and less complete compared to the most recent version. No idea if any truth to that. We know he is highly regarded by Nintendo, but to be able to make them do that? Not sure about that. If any truth though, I think it is silly, as a I love Smash 64, and it would obviously be nowhere near as packed.

I would love to see it though. It was a remarkable game for the era and the idea of all the characters together was mad at the time!
