DKC2 vs. DKCR would've been a more interesting competition. To me, at least.

I think Pokemon versus Dragon Quest Monsters would be more interesting (although I strongly suspect the former is going demolish whatever series it's put up against).

The Digimon/Pokemon rivalry was more based on their respective anime adaptations than the games themselves; Digimon, at least initially, had much more in common with stuff like Tamagotchi than it had with Pocket Monsters.
