I can't even play NES VC games on the Wii U anymore after I noticed just how dark everything looks...especially compared to and after playing them on the vibrant and colorful NES Classic.
I hope the Switch fixes this. (omfg the Wii U is terrible!!!)

I love the nes mini. 25 years ago was when I first played the nes. I thought I'd done it all. Seemed like I'd played Mario Bros 3 to death as a child. Yet as I read the printed manual supplied in the nes mini version there's so much I didn't know. (Me as a child used to just look at the pictures and admire the artwork) but the 30 year old me has only just found out, on this very day, that tanooki Mario can urn into a statue I've not done it in game yet but I've read the manual properly now.
Not to mention that judging from the manual I'm actually not even sure I've completed Mario Bros 3 fully.
Maybe I'm just being overly pessimistic, is it conceivable that the NES Classic was just a holiday only gift and that they really aren't going to make anymore? In Ireland some stores have now de-listed the NES Classic from their websites (Maplin says it is discontinued, Smyths toys no longer lists it)
From Reggie:
"It’s a challenging holiday gift, once again Nintendo has the “it” holiday gift out on the market place, but the good news for all of those consumers is that we’re constantly putting more on the market…the best thing our retailers are doing is through social media, they are putting out messages when they have the product in the stores, so whether that’s Toys R Us, GameStop, Walmart, Target, all of our key retailers are letting consumers know when to go to stores to get it, so as we sit here today 2 weeks before Christmas, yeah I think consumers will be able to get their hands on it."
Has there been a commitment from Nintendo regarding post holiday period stock?
It wouldn't surprise me if it was just for the holiday season just something for Nintendo to put out during that time since the Wii U is dead and the Switch isn't out yet. I am also wondering if this was just to test the emulation for maybe the Switch VC if it has one.
Thing that cracks me up about this is Nintendo goes after Rom sites and emulation thing is less people would go that route if Nintendo would make it easier and more affordable for people to play those older games with something like the NES Mini.

@Tasuki The only thing is there is licensing to consider. Nintendo can't go "hey this came out on the NES, so let's put it on the VC/NES Mini/Whatever". They have to get permission for games that aren't theirs, and many of the older devs went under. Also there is the profit margin as well. It isn't worth the hassle for some games. These aren't straight ROM dumps. Like the VC, the dev teams had to put in work to make the emulation package. That is payroll, time...yadda yadda.
Either way Nintendo does have the right to go after Rom sites because those people don't have the rights to those games. They aren't public domain.

@Ryu_Niiyama I am not even talking about licensing, but they don't even make effort with some games. But that wasn't my point. Point is Nintendo knows people want the retro stuff and they continously drop the ball when it comes to that.

I sincerely doubt it. The more likely scenario is just that certain stores aren't advertising it because they don't have it in stock ad they don't want to disappoint customers coming to their store to get it (or more likely, they don't want to deal with customers kvetching and complaining if they come to the store and there are none to buy).
The good news, at least for consumers in the Americas, is we’re going to continue to make the NES Classic available. With the ongoing level of supply, the ongoing demand is going to be met. We know the concern.
Bergsala, the official Nintendo importer in the Nordics, have officially stated that the Mini NES is not to be sold in the Nordics any more, and all the major stores have removed the item from their online stores. And, what is even more ridiculous, people who preordered haven't even gotten theirs, and they won't either.
I hope I can nab one in NY, but even then it looks difficult. The Nintendo store there announces the sale 20 minutes before they open....
Its funny that it comes right after someone hacked the Mini NES. Could it come in response to that?
