@TylerTheCreator: It's ok that you don't agree. The whole reason in a nutshell that this is bad is Tha Gamestop is a corporation who are just looking for a quick buck. They will do whatever they can to screw the consumer and trust me they do. One of the joys that I get from retro game shopping is not having to deal with their crooked butts. With them getting in on the retro action it seems that other stores follow their lead and if Gamestop continues this with the retro games we will see retro game prices go all crazy more so then they are now. Small ma and pa retro games shops will cease to exist. Forcing some retro gamers to go to Gamestop, sadly. And Gamestop holds no value in retro games they just see it as another buck.

I thought the only benefit to second-hand shopping is that you have plenty of choices when it comes to who you buy from, distilling free market down to its essence as you're free to decide what a particular product is worth to you depending on availabilty and condition. Gamestop is simply offering another avenue. If they don't price it competitively, and make it convenient to the shopper, then people aren't likely to buy from them, and they'll go the way of the dinosaur. The only negative is that now a certain percentage of the supply for specific (apparantly very common) games will be at gamestop, taking some out of the usual circulation. But they don't sell rare games, so I don't see it being a problem unless Gamestop gets extremely aggressive with it. And considering how much they make from selling newer games vs. the much more established and competitive retro markets, I don't see them getting past the pilot program...
I'm assuming you meant "profitable" and you're probably right. But that doesn't mean they're losing money. In fact, I took a peak at their financial reports, and it looks like they're doing really well these days.
I'm not too concerned about GameStop entering the retro market, especially if the prices are decent.
Well first because this is a chain store and chains are based on selling. It means that if nobody buys Cannon Spike for 80 bucks now, next year will probably be $75. And if nobody keeps buying, the price is going to decrease even more.
As a system, this is way more reliable than ebay, where I keep seeing the same Dreamcast games from the same sellers who had them on sale since 2004 and the price never dropped a cent. Seriously .- there's this dude in Milan who hasn't sold a single highly priced Dreamcast game in 11 years, and in the meantime we have gone through two financial crisis, one recession, and his prices are still the same.
Having a big shop that adjustes the prices according to a real demand, as opposed to a "virtual demand" the retro world seems to be based on, is going to be beneficial, in the long run.
And if you're trying to buy Cannon Spike from someone who checks the internet for prices and asks you 240 bucks because that's the highest ebay price, you can tell him to check the GameStop website instead and get back to planet earth, because they are selling it for one third of that.
Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...
It is called GunSpike and the name was changed because of censorship issues in the west ( current trends ).
Yeah Gamestop, about that. They THROW OUT THERE OLD STOCK. No really they dump there games and anything else. If it does not sell then throw it away. Chance is that somebody in the company see the buying trends of people and realize that they could scrape up some pennies. My advice is not to purchase anything from these people at all and let them fry in the sun. That is what I think about Gamestop. Back when "Resident Evil Zero" was out, I placed an pre-order and never received my shirt. Why? Because of the "Revolving door of managers" the new manager said they had no more shirts.
But the truth was the manager was hoarding the shirts. To make things worst this was the final manager for this store, and she was an racist black person I suspect being non-heterosexual. While I have seen white racist managers from other parts of town, at least they had more respect to me as an customer. I hate walking inside of that store and feeling like "I am dealing with the same traumatization I had when I was in grade school but from an different stand point. I felt violated because it was my local "Funcoland" and was the closest place to me that sold "all games" from "all consoles". It was the most pugilist transition ever. Before that it was okay, and I will admit I have been an jerk inside of the store but more recently I have discovered that GAMESTOP HEADQUARTERS IS BASED IN TEXAS!!!! of all places in the United States. I have nothing against Texas, great BBQ, Metal, Conventions. However I also recently discovered many of there commercial/mainstream chains of comics/video-games/animation stores are run by people who do not really care about the industry as an whole.
It is like they make these stores to drag money out of our pockets so they can party with there pornstar girlfriends and gas up there stallion mobiles. I feel so violated when I enter an game store ( or any store that sells media ) and find people who are disrespectful.
In my area they do an different trick. Because of tourism they sneakily lie underhandedly. We call it quick people talk. They sound friendly and look like they are doing things for us but what they are really doing is attempting to make an quick sale. The "Virgin MegaStore" among many others use this tactic.
I do not want to fill anymore pockets of scumbags unless they are scumbags like me. I guess the world is filled with more pigeons ( feed by turkeys ) desired.
Yep I had a feeling something like this would happen. Gamestop greed as usual. Getting into something the don't know about and then not taking the time to properly train their employees.
