I don't think it's going to be the same. The guy clearly is a genius, and every iteration is a huge critical success.

@R_Champ There's many much worse Brawl stages than Skyworld, some of these include:
New Pork City
Mario Circuit
Port Town Aero Dive
Hanenbow
Mushroomy Kingdom
Rumble Falls

If Sakurai does quit, Smash won't nearly be of the same quality. No Kirby has ever reached the level excitement, variety, and overall craziness since he left HAL. Smash will still be good, but likely not as good as the previous four.

Yeah totally.

It would be fans that would automatically reject the project. Like, no Sakurai=auto-hate, regardless of quality.

Maybe Sakurai will just start to supervise future Smash games, which will be fine by me.

Can Nintendo "do" it? Yes, absolutely. Four games in the series already here, Nintendo could pick up easily enough. Plus, as already mentioned, Kirby has done well enough with out them.

However, Sakurai has done so much for Smash Bros. that Nintendo couldn't possibly put it up to how Sakurai does things. The game would suffer some as a result. But yes, a Smash made by Nintendo would definitely work.

I could see it being done, and even done well. It's mainly because Kirby hasn't fallen in quality since Sakurai's departure. I would miss Sakurai, though.

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

Despite what Sakurai thinks, he's not the only one that can manage a good fighting game. I look at what Eiji Aonuma has done with the Zelda franchise, and I think that there may be a few titles in the future that aren't solid fan favorites, but they will look for ways to evolve the franchise. I'm sure we have some killer smash games to look forward to. If not, there will always be SSB4 at my house.

Got married.
